So let me get this straight. They cancel Dark Matter out of the blue without any satisfying ending. They renew Killjoys in spite of a lackluster season 3. And then they cancel Expanse in spite of its popularity and quality.
Syfy doesnt deserve these shows. Bunch of cheap ignorant *****ebags.
I think they greenlighted more Killjoys because they think Hannah John-Kamen's career is on the rise with roles in Tomb Raider, Ready Player One and Ant-Man & The Wasp.
They are most likely gambling that a rise in profile will bring them more eyes on her TV show.
Syfy also co-produce Killjoys.
Dark Matter was cancelled for the same reason The Expanse is. The show is not owned or produced by Syfy which means they have limited means on monetizing it.
Drak Matter co-creator Mallozzi posted about the reasoning for the cancellation on his blog
Working against us was the fact that we werent a SyFy original. We were an acquisition," he revealed. "For those not in the know, an original is a series that is developed by the network and, more importantly, owned by the network, allowing them to monetize the show through things like international sales, streaming, etc. The network pays a lot more but presumably reaps the benefits down the line.
Mallozzi went on to say that he pitched a much shorter final season to Syfy to wrap up the story, which was left on a cliffhanger. Unfortunately, they weren't interested in doing that.
