people forget that, even if the movie is a bad adaptation of fantastic four, it does not mean it is as bad movie itself...

this could be a very good movie, that sucks compared to the priginal story, but its good independently...

Then they wouldn't set the embargo date until the film actually comes out. We knew that this was going to be a very loose adaptation of the first six issues of UFF. Not screening the film for critics until the day before it comes out and then embargoing those reviews until the Thursday night premiere means that it's a lousy film on its own merits. Ant-Man was also a very loose adaptation that had little to do with the source material but was still a very good film.

Remember how Pixels reviews weren't out until the night before release? That's just the most recent example.

I'm not going to let the inner Marvel fanboy in me pay to see an FF film that's critically reviled if it means giving money to a director who insulted the entire film and TV industry at a Comic Con panel, linked detractors to a pic of a dog's butthole, allegedly threatened a reporter critical of his film and insulted the greatest FF writer/artist of all time. Even if it's the FF, it's still Josh Trank making a dreadful film.

Yeah, Fox released a test screening for DOFP on 5/7/14 and they let the warm reception from that screening run wild. That was more than 3 weeks before its release US date.

Yeah its usually very easy to tell when a studio knows they have something good. Just look at the handling of DOFP, GOTG, WInter soldier, even ANt Man to name a few.You see a lot of early critic and free fan screenings, very loose social media restrictions, embargoes up a week or more before release etc

From what I read, the day of release embargo is for in-print reviews. For online reviews the embargo ends the day before release. Still not a good sign.

A guy from Collider is saying that the embargo ends Wednesday, 6pm.

Which doesn't make sense as that's when some of the critic screenings are taking place. I trust the editor of NY mag/Vulture more as he had both the online and print embargo dates.

Yup that's what everyone is saying. The 8/5 date from Collider is the only person saying otherwise.

maybe they are afraid that the critics are some of those people who want to sabotage the movie because they hate the changes....

It's official, the new embargo lift is now August 5 at 6:00pm PST. The original lift was August 6 at 4:00pm PST. Fox moved it up likely due to the bad PR that was spreading.

Anyone here seen Trainspotting? Im sure some of you have. Well, ya know the scene when Spud wakes up and he has **** the bed and he tries to sneak the filthy bed sheets past his girlfriend's mom and he gets in a tug of war with the mom cause she wants to wash the sheets and he doesnt want her to and he ends up throwing the **** in her mom's face and the face of his girlfriend and her dad by accident...

Well, Fox is Spud, the F4 property is the sheets, and the mom, girlfriend, and dad is the fans.

Seriously, if you havent watched that scene go look up "Spud ****s on the sheets" on Youtube.

Lol. That gave me a good giggle. I've only seen Trainspotting once, so my memory is pretty hazy on that one. Though talking about Spud, I just seeing Ewan Bremnar in American movies. It's a good giggle seeing him in Judge Dread.

Speaking of Trainspotting. Irvine Welsh is a funny guy to follow on Twitter.

Anyway, back on topic. lol

Film critics is the group that was the most excited by the new take. If Amazing Spider-Man 2's reception is any indication, more of the same is a much more difficult sell to critics.

ASM2 wishes its problems were just "more of the same".

A thought after reading something in another thread.....from the trailers, you seem to see Johnny doing and saying more than Reed. Do you think that will be the actual take in the movie...or are they pulling a bait and switch like they did with Jaimie Foxx in STEALTH years back?

For those that don't remember or didn't see....back in 2005 when the Josh Lucas, Jessica Biel, and Jamie Foxx movie was being promoted....the trailers and Tv ads for it made it look like the stars in order of importance for the movie was Jamie Foxx, Jessica Biel, and Josh Lucas. Jamie had just won an OSCAR for RAY and had been nominated for one for COLLATERAL....he was super hot at the time, so of course the studio made it look like he was the star of the movie....[BLACKOUT]but he died about a third of the way into it[/BLACKOUT].....so I'm just wondering how this movie will play out.

I think it has to with Jordan being hands down the most popular of the main cast, and having probably the most excitement fueled dialogue, whereas the other look to be very dry in their delivery.

Pretty much what Val_Zod says. I think it's more about putting your best foot forward than a real tell of what the movie be like. MBJ is arguably the film's biggest asset at this point. So they're probably just going with whatever works.

Though on a side note I can't help but wonder if it would work seeing a F4 film where the dynamic is shifted a bit. I wonder if a F4 film that had say either Johnny or Sue as the main character (yet, not the leader) would be an interesting way into the world of the F4 for audiences and provide someone potentially more relatable than Reed Richards as the lead character?

I think it is as bad as it looks. I think, as someone said earlier, Johnny will be the leader. I think Reed will be the shy geek and Johnny will be the outgoing leader of the group.

I'm pretty much convinced that this film is going to be really bad in every imaginable way. One thing we've always said is: "The cast is talented." but I've noticed that they don't show anybody delivering more than a sentence at a time. And some of the recent clips I've seen have some lines and delivery that are almost painful in their awkwardness. I'm starting to think the unimpressive early clips were the best they had and it's downhill from here.

I think things could get really ugly when the reviews start showing up.

With the way so much of the production has been un-Marvel comic book like.....it wouldn't surprise me if they made Johnny the leader. Some people will of course love that....I on the other hand say....just another example of pissing on the characters I love. But I do wonder if they could be playing Johnny up in the trailers only to switch it up in the movie.

I'm not sure if anyone would honestly "love it", but you can bet your bottom dollar we'd have people here vehemently defending it on principle.
