The whole Iris Barry thing is ick. Them wasting time kissing was also dumb as well as dickish. I have to agree with everyone commenting on how messed up the CW writers are when it comes to relationships. Actually, that's not fair, I mean the Flarrow writers, because one thing that Vampire Diaries does well (that Flarrow should try taking note of) is allowing couples that don't work to fail and split and then just not get back together (you know, like real life). Trying to force it is irritating.
I've seen a couple of people compare Barbara/Jim being compared to the messes that are Oliver/Laurel and Barry/Iris, but I'm still firmly on Gotham's side on this: Barbara and Jim are meant to be a mess together, it's why he cheats on her and she leaves him. The show is just foreshadowing their failed marriage and why it's a terrible idea.
Well, when you put the Barbara and Gordon thing in that perspective, it makes sense.
And honestly, I could even tolerate the messes that have come about for Oliver and Laurel since those two have always had a rocky relationship in the comics.
It's how they've handled Barry and Iris that really irks me since Barry and Iris are supposed to be like Clark and Lois, in some ways.
Not only is it bad enough that they're technically foster brother and sister, but they're having them blatantly cheat on their present partners, without a care in the world about consequences.
It's almost as if the writers don't want people to root for their given pairings.
And yeah, the writers for these shows (Arrow and Flash) are pretty messed up when it comes to how they handle romance in these shows...
1. Robert cheated on Moira several times (apparently, with one of them being young enough to be his own daughter herself), with Moira having cheated on him once with Malcolm (Robert's Best Friend), which resulted in the birth of Thea.
2. Oliver cheats on Laurel with her younger sister.
3. Diggs had a thing with his sister-in-law.
4. Barry is in love with Iris, his foster sister, who apparently reciprocates his feelings as well. This being the tip of the iceberg as both are currently involved with someone else, with Iris living with her boyfriend who has expressed the desire for them to potentially get married someday.
5. Ray was essentially stalking Felicity at the start of their "relationship" before they eventually hooked up with each other.
