Rothman isn't even in charge of 20th Century anymore, that's why. Also, someone like Jim Cameron would tell that rat **** to go take a running jump if he tried to mess with his 14 year old dream.

You can tell he enjoyed it just the way he pushes his tongue in his cheek.

Then why haven't their movies improved. Avatar doesn't count since it's a unique case. But all their other films.

Umm, yes he is. Fox Filmed Entertainment (he got promoted to Chief Executive Officet of that) is the parent company of 20th Century Fox. So he can still pretty much do whatever the **** he wants with the films.

Well he didn't say anything when Rothman said no to his Alien 5.

Nimrod Antal and Robert Rodriguez have complete creative control on the upcoming 20th Century Fox film Predators (Predator 3).

It's also going to be R-Rated, which was impossible with Tom Rothman in charge.

Anywhere where the rest of us can read about this?
It's covered numerous times in this thread. He mentioned it in a interview with AICN couple of years back. http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=22405

QUINT: I remember before Paul W.S. Anderson did ALIEN VS PREDATOR it came out that you kind of made an offer to do another ALIEN film with Ridley Scott...

JAMES CAMERON: Yeah. Ridley and I talked about doing another ALIEN film and I said to 20th Century Fox that I would develop a 5th ALIEN film. I started working on a story, I was working with another writer and Fox came back to me and said, "We've got this really good script for ALIEN VS PREDATOR and I got pretty upset. I said, "You do that you're going to kill the validity of the franchise in my mind." Because to me, that was FRANKENSTEIN MEETS WEREWOLF. It was Universal just taking their assets and starting to play them off against each other.

QUINT: Milking it, totally.

JAMES CAMERON: Milking it. So, I stopped work. Then I saw ALIEN VS PREDATOR and it was actually pretty good. (laughs) I think of the 5 ALIEN films, I'd rate it 3rd.

QUINT: Ummm...

JAMES CAMERON: I actually liked it. I actually liked it a lot.

QUINT: You know, I hate it when movies don't abide by the continuity of their series...

JAMES CAMERON: When they make up their own rules.

QUINT: Exactly. They did that a lot with the alien incubation time, where from egg to chestbuster it happened...

JAMES CAMERON: In minutes, yeah...

QUINT: That kind of stuff really pissed me off with the movie...

JAMES CAMERON: Well, it starts to become a video game. It's like, "Okay, that can be in him and that can show up over here..." It becomes more metaphorical or more comic book. I don't mean comic book in a negative way, I just mean that it's working at a kind of mythic, metaphoric level as opposed to really trying to immerse you in reality.

I mean, I felt when I was making ALIENS I think the same thing Ridley was doing with ALIEN, which is... "I'm going to make you think this is real." Even though it is completely ridiculous deep space adventure. We were going to make you feel like it's real. It's a question of does the film take itself seriously or not.

KRAKEN: So you still thinking about doing something with it?

JAMES CAMERON: No.

KRAKEN: If we promised you our first babies would you think about doing anything with it?

JAMES CAMERON: (laughs) Well, the other thing I've learned is that when you deal with a studio and it's their asset... it's their asset. And I should have learned that lesson with PLANET OF THE APES because I had a great... great idea with PLANET OF THE APES, but it was Fox's asset. Even though I was supposedly developing it we didn't see eye to eye and they sort of picked up their marbles and that was that. They turned out, I think, possibly the most egregious film that they could have on that subject because they miscast the director. It's the only Tim Burton film that I don't like.

QUINT: Yeah and it's just frustrating because you can see stuff in there that's great, like Tim Roth's performance, but the movie just falls flat.

JAMES CAMERON: He's stunning!
There was more of it somehwere. The plan was to have Ridley directing and Cameron writing & producing.

Nice interview

I find it kind of sad though that he ranks AVP higher than Alien 3 though. He says he ranked it third and I'm sure not just Scott's film but his own are in the top 2 spots.

Cameron's Planet of the Apes would have rocked so much.

Why!!!??

Fox ruins another idea. Alien 5 with Scott & Cameron and a Planet of the Apes film with a great story Cameron was coming up with.

Burton's early work is fabulous but his current stuff, no comment.

Wow, James Cameron's Planet of the Apes would've been awesome.

But he ranks AvP 3rd?:doh::dry:

That might not be much of a complement. Resurrection is terrible. And ^3 has plenty of people that think that despite Fincher's best efforts, it doesn't work. AvP doesn't aim very high, but in Cameron's opinion it might be pretty close to the mark for where it was aiming.

IMO, there are two really quality films in that franchise, one ambitious, artistic failure, a complete misfire, and some B-movies. Pick your poison of the latter ones.

I guess I'm one of the few people who actually likes all four Alien movies.

I loved AvP, personally. It was fun. And I think there was an explanation for the Aliens' sPeedy maturity being that the queen was pumped with hormones but it got cut from the film.

AvP is a hour and a half beating of something you love.

AvP-R is rape. With 2girls1cup in the mix as well.

Makes sense he puts AVP at third.... Alien 3 and 4 were quite... quite repetitive, sorry Celtic :(

AvP-R directors apparently never heard of proper lighting. I couldn't see a single thing throughout that movie.

Just blurs and a whole lot of crap.

There is no way anybody on earth can like AvP-R.

After reminiscing the horrid AVP1 crapfest I still have no desire to see the sequel. I probably won't ever see it unless someone pays me money. If I saw the film under that circumstance I'd still be pissed that I spent 1 hr and 26 minutes watching rubbish.

I truly wonder if I'll ever see an enjoyable film with xenomorphs or predators in it. It's been over 20 years since I enjoyed one of these films so my expectations can't get any lower.

Here is how I rank the Aliens and Predator films:

Alien 9.5/10 Greatest sci-fi horror film of all time.
Aliens 9/10 One of the greatest sequels of all time.
Predator 8.5/10
Predator 2 6/10 At least the predator had cool weapons and kicked butt in the film.
Alien 3 5/10 Second most disappointing movie I've ever seen.
Alien R 5.5/10 This crapfest gets a slightly higher rating than Alien 3 because it didn't put me to sleep.
AVP1 4/10 This is what happens when two iconic characters meant to be seen in R rated movies gets watered down into a blended crapfest smoothie of bad acting, silly storyline, B movie characters, and zero suspense.
