Wouldnt necessary say "celebrated", it was Dark Humor more than anything.
Considering Tom King can openly talk about War Crimes and they often work with someone who drew Russian Nazi Propaganda...Firing her for this feels incredible political.

To no one's surprise. If you're gonna be a part of a well-known company, regardless of whoever finds and amplifies your comments, what you say is going to be put under a microscope. Better to say nothing, or at least not say anything online that you wouldn't say in person. For once, DC actually made a sensible decision.

Because I don't believe DC Comics saw comments like “Hope the bullet’s okay after touching Charlie Kirk” or "Thoughts and prayers, you Nazi B-" and thought 'Must be dark humor' and that it wouldn't hurt their brand. Though yes, that DC has not given much thought to what Tom King has said in the past is worth noting.

Unless stated otherwise, I expect it has less to do with the Kirk post and more the one earlier that same morning about her first issue.

Superman: The Kryptonite Spectrum once again becomes the book of the month. I'm really loving the twisted Silver Age zaniness of the book. It strangely reminds me more of Alan Moore's Supreme. The Kryptonite Spectrum is a lot of fun, but doesn't feel superficial. There's a very subtle perverseness to the story that I find gives the proceedings some weight to it.

Wonder Woman. We're now past the two year mark and I'm feeling rather...whelmed. It's not bad. It's kind of good. But outside of a few high points (that giant punch-out in the National Mall, the Detective Chimp Columbo issue, and the two 2-parters with Superman and Batman), I find the whole run to just kind of...exist. It lacks the formalist bravado of King's Batman run, and the staying power. Granted, we're also only in the second major story arc of the run, which may or may not be an issue in and of itself, but I find this book sinking to the bottom of my reading pile and nothing since the Mouseman arc has done anything to really grab my attention.

Spurrier 's Flash run has concluded but even up through December, no long term creative team has been announced. That said, I'm excited for Waid and Christopher Cantwell team-up for the KO tie-ins (I'm not reading the main series though). I haven't read maybe the last 8 months of this book, buying it only as a courtesy to keep it going. The book needs a massive overhaul, needs to be treated like an A-List book with consistent A-List talent (the drop from Deodato to what we ended up with is so jarring it hurts) and smaller, shorter arcs.

Conan the Barbarian, also 2 years deep, remains consistently wonderful month in and month out.

Trinity #4 might be one of the best Alfred comics ever.

This year ends on a strange note, as Trinity ends in November. New Gods ends in November (this one stings considering this story moved like molasses for the last handful of issues). Batman: Dark Patterns ends in November. Kryptonite Spectrum ends in December. And quite frankly, there's nothing coming out to replace any of those books. Monsters and Savage Sword of Conan are bi-monthly. There is Liam Sharp's Spawn: The Dark Ages next month but that goes for 6 issues. But there's little else that's grabbing my attention.

Spurrier has done everything in his power to try and kill that title. It really ticks me off that Adams had that book firing on all cylinders just for Spurrier to drive it off a cliff.

Yeah I like Kings run for the most part but its very slow. But he has done more than some past writers so thats nice.

Trinity....I enjoy the character and the book but King needs to STOPPPPPPPP with the Batfam. It is downright ridiculous how much they play into WW and this book, esp this book.

Absolute WW this week though....

Which current Robin series?

Williamson had a Robin series a few years back which was incredible. Definitely one of the best books of the 2020’s.
And Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen have done two separate “Robin and Batman” 4-part minis. They are flat out amazing. Dustin Nguyen’s art is always an event.

Is there something else that I’m not aware of?

I've been out of the regularly collecting game for years. I was just throwing a question out at random. Which brings me to this...so there's no current Robin ongoing? So is it just Robin and Batman?

I'll check out the Williamson Robin you mentioned.

Yeah. There’s not a Robin ongoing currently. But I loved Williamson’s Robin. It introduced a character named Flatline, who I’d say is one of the best new characters in the past decade. Surprised that she hasn’t shown up anywhere else.

And by all means, pick up Lemire and Nguyen’s Robin and Batman. The first four issue mini featured Dick as Robin and the second mini was a Jason Todd story. Beautiful storytelling and stunning art. Nguyen’s watercolors are gorgeous.

Thanks. Those are worth it for the art alone

The Last Robin run we had ended i think 2024 and focused on Damian.
Other than that, there is no Robin solo...but we have Batman and Robin and Batman and Robin Year one.
Batman and Robin is about Damian Wayne as Robin and Batman and Robin year one has Dick as Robin.
@Babillygunn already talked about Robin and Batman, which has imo more focus on Robin if that is what you want.

Vertigo is back (again). The imprint will be for original/creator-owned books while Black Label is sticking to mature books.

The DC Vertigo launch slate is as follows:

  • The Nice House by the Sea, with February’s #7 launching the second cycle of the Vertigo horror epic by James Tynion IV, Álvaro Martínez Bueno, and Jordie Bellaire. Following the survivors of Walter’s “hexagon” experiment, the series explores the terrifying consequences of escape…and the threat it poses to what remains of humanity.
  • Bleeding Hearts by Deniz Camp, Stipan Morian, and Matt Hollingsworth: A zombie named Poke discovers his heart beating again, threatening his place in a society where death reigns supreme.
  • End of Life by Kyle Starks, Steve Pugh, and Chris O’Halloran: A top-tier hitman returns to his Midwestern hometown to care for his dying father…and confront his own mortality.
  • The Peril of the Brutal Dark: An Ezra Cain Mystery by Chris Condon and Jacob Phillips: A noir detective tale that collides with magic, fascism, and a stolen artifact of unimaginable power.
  • 100 Bullets: The US of Anger by Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso: Lono returns to America and reignites chaos, taking the nation’s darkest impulses to their violent extremes.
  • Black Tower: The Raven Conspiracy by Ram V and Mike Perkins: Wizard spies in the UK navigate a global cold war over sorcery, revealing a hidden world of occult power.
  • Necretaceous by Tom Taylor and Darick Robertson: Scientists attempt to time-travel to stop a zombie virus, only to land 66 million years in the past, among dinosaurs.
  • Fanatic by Grace Ellis and Hannah Templer: A woman’s obsession with a comic book spirals into a deadly parasocial fixation on its creator.
  • The Crying Doll by Mariko Tamaki and Rosemary Valero-O’Connell: A Jekyll-and-Hyde thriller about just how far a young woman would go to protect her best friend, who may (or may not) be a killer.
  • A Walking Shadow by Simon Spurrier and Aaron Campbell: Eight strangers wake up chained to a boat in the woods. No memory. No escape. No explanation.

A lost piece of comic book history is finally going to see print in 2026, with DC Vertigo announcing that previously cancelled issues of Rick Veitch’s 1980s Swamp Thing run will be published under the new guise of Swamp Thing 1989.

The four-issue series by writer Veitch and artists Michael Zulli, Vince Locke, Tom Mandrake, and colorist Trish Mulvihill was originally created as #88-91 of the 1980s Swamp Thing comic book series, in which the title character of the series went back in time and met Jesus Christ. Controversial at time of creation, DC management of the period pulled the stories entirely, with Veitch leaving the series entirely as a result of the decision. Now, more than a quarter century later, DC Vertigo is printing the issues as originally intended — complete with the trade dress of the time, and even potentially period-specific advertisements, according to DC Vertigo executive editor Chris Conroy.

@Snow Queen Some great news!
Oh, and the two series they were willing to give creators for? Lobo by Skottie Young and Jorge Corona and Batwoman by Greg Rucka and Dani. Batwoman launches in March 2026, dates for all of the other titles are to be announced in the coming months.

The new Firestorm and Demon ongoings caught my attention big time but it really depends on creative teams. For example, I enjoy the LOSH, but I can't muster any excitement for Joshua Williamson's writing.

Biggest deal for me is that DC is finally righting wrongs and not only publishing Rick Veitch & Michael Zulli 's cancelled Swamp Thing #88 but that they're letting Veitch finish out his run as planned through #91 with Ton Mandrake doing the pencils. That announcement made the happiest I've been about comics in a loooong time.

What did they say about that upcoming Zatanna series? I saw people thought Greg Rucka was doing it because he joked about it and then cleared up that he was kidding, but was anything else said there about it?
