F***ing sweet wasn't it? I love the idea of the women being trapped. I felt claustrophobic just watching the scenes where the girls got stuck. The reviews really matched with what I saw.

Too bad his follow up was Doomsday but I am sure he was pushed into it, well that's atleast the feel I got from it.

That movie is so awesome. The transformation scenes still make me cringe...the noises of bones cracking and stretching are just so ****ing gross.

The effects were pretty damn good for its time, heck it's beat some more recent werewolf movies. And I thought the puppet wolf thing that they used was actually scary looking lol, I'll be honest, it creeped me out.

I feel like watching more Werewolf movies, anyone got any more recommendations? I've seen Dog Soldiers, just so you know.

-Halloween

-Evil Dead
-Army of Darkness
-The Horror of Dracula (1958)

See the original Wolf Man. Sure it's dated and not scary in the slightest, but it's still a pretty cool flick. Also, the Howling was decent. I didn't like it as much as other people did though. Wolf is a good one too, although it's not much of a horror movie.

SCARY

Halloween I, II, H20
Friday The 13th I, II, III, IV, V
Nightmare On Elmstreet I, II, III
Poltergeist
Amityville Horror
Amityville II: The Posession
Jaws I & II
When A Stranger Calls (Original)
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Original)
Alien

GOOD BUT NOT SCARY

Sleepy Hollow
Bram Stokers Dracula
George A. Romero's Zombie Movies (Night Of The Living Dead, Dawn Of The Dead, etc)
Evil Dead Trilogy
The Craft
Scream Trilogy
Aliens
Interview With A Vampire
The Exorcist
Psycho (Original)

JUST PLAIN FUN

Ghostbusters I & II
High Spirits
Ernest Scared Stupid
Elvira Mistress Of The Dark
Beetlejuice
Disney's Adventures Of Icabod Crane & Mr. Toad
Disney's Halloweentown I through IV
The Simpsons: Treehouse Of Terror

Those are all I can think of right now. To me, for a movie to be truly scary there must be some eliment of plausibility to it. Movies about homicidal maniacs (if done well) are scary because homicidal maniacs do exist. Ted Bundy, Ed Gein, Alan Fish, Clifford Olsen, Willy Picton, Jack The Ripper, all perfect examples of real life homicidal maniacs. And I grew up in a haunted house, so any movie about manevolent spirits tormenting people is very scary to me. Of course, in all cases, the movie has to be well made. See No Evil, Wrestlemaniac, any Friday The 13th after #5 or Halloween after #2, and various other slasher flicks, are just too formulaic and predictable to be scary. And I don't believe in Satan or demonic possession, so The Exorcist movies don't scare me at all. Vampires and zombies don't exist, so the best those movies might do for me is a good action film about the undead. But that's just my opinion.

Good list.

But, I'm curious, what's the significant difference between malevolent spirits and demonic possession for you? Not trying to sound mean or anything, it just piqued my interest.

Rocky Horror Picture Show
Hellraiser I & II
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Original)
Dracula

I'll add A Nightmare Before Christmas---- will also list this movie as one the best Christmas movies.

It's all a matter of perception. In my opinion, the "possessed" characters from the Amityville movies weren't actually Possessed in the strictest sense. Which is to say, no evil spirit actually entered their bodies and took over. I see their actions as being manipulated by outside forces, like in The Manchurian Candidate only with ghosts being the manipulaters and not the North Koreans. They were forced to stay awake, made incredibly uncomfortable, and had a steady stream of sinister suggestions being whispered into their ears by unseen forces. Eventually they snapped and went homicidal. But again, that's just how I see the subject. But what makes those movies truly scary is that they were both based on actual events. Sure the facts were embelished, exaggerated, and sensationalized for Hollywood, but every over the top scene had a nugget of truth to it.
