The Grits Gonna Hit The Wrestling Thread!

What happened tonight is exactly why I love wrestling. A story with a great story to finish it off. WWE booked it perfectly tonight. This was one of the funnest times I've had watching wrestling, and the booking was straight out of 1999. The 2 Money in the Bank matches were great. I marked out so hard for Miz running back down to try to win the match. I wish so hard he could have pulled it off. Christian was finally booked as a heel for probably the first time in this whole run. It came off great. He won, but got laid out in the process. I was expecting Daniel Bryan to come out to cash in, and get the crowd to pop so hard, but it wasn't meant to be. Hopefully this means that Christian is going to get a legit reign. The problem is that I want to want to root for Christian, I wish he won the belt as a face. But I'm glad he has it. Hopefully he has a reign in store for him, and he doesn't just drop it again on Friday.

Reenacting the Montreal Screwjob was a bit predictable, so was Vince trying to get Del Rio to cash in, but honestly, just because something is predictable doesn't always inherently make it worse. Sometimes it is possible to out think yourself just for the sake of doing something unpredictable. Punk needed to walk out of Chicago with the title. Him knocking the hell out of Del Rio and then running for the exit while Vince helplessly watched on was great.

The next few weeks we'll be interesting. We'll see how this gets handled. Here's your shot, Punk. You've got my attention. Now show me you really are the greatest in the world... in the ring, on the mic. You have hit both extremes for me - you've made me want to turn off the TV due to how horrible you were, and you've been a part of one of my most memorable wrestling moments of all time. Show me you're the latter, and not the former. Vince, don't **** it up. Cena, don't lame it up.

— CM Punk did it. He opened a black hole in the WWE Universe, seizing the WWE Championship in his hometown within his final hours as a contracted employee of Vince McMahon, sufficiently embarrassing The WWE Chairman and conquering a now-fired John Cena, “The Champ.”

Averting the last-ditch desperate measures of The Chairman of the Board – including an attempted Montreal-esque Chicago Screwjob and a cash-in coup by Money in the Bank contract winner Alberto Del Rio – Punk escaped the Allstate Arena with the WWE Title and its 63-year lineage as he blew Mr. McMahon and WWE a kiss goodbye.

From WWE.com

It sucks that even though WWE took a LOT of welcome chances tonight they probably don't have the stones to do the whole "Cena fired' angle for more than a week.

All I know is this, we're treading in new territory with this angle.

And wherever we go from here, honestly I'd be very disappointed if they went with something similar to Austin/McMahon (it's Punk vs. The Corporation!) or nWo/WCW (Punk's back with a rival faction!)

...give us something new WWE, you already surprised us with tonight, keep it going, don't fall back on the old stuff.

Cena does need some time off though. At the very least a month.

Let's just hope that Christian's new reign is longer then his last one. If so, then his short reign the first time makes sense.

So Cena is "fired"...

Punk should communicate via satellite with the WWE title on his shoulder on RAW...:funny:

I've been saying that for weeks. Give a Randy News Update like thing... Punks adventures with the WWE Title.

I can't get over this PPV, i regret having ordered WM while watching this one on a stream lol.

Punk just showed tonight why he should have main evented Mania with Cena.

Christian actually winning the world title again is great. I won't even complain about Orton obliterating him afterwards because his character is a sociopath who assaults anyone who pisses him off, and getting spat on is a believable enough thing to send him flying into a rage like that.
just his "character?" :hehe:

If not Austin vs Punk at Wrestlemania, then McMahon vs Punk.

I think Punk should face HHH or Taker at Mania.Either attack the son in law or Vince's greatest money maker(The streak.)

I am definitely looking forward to checking out this PPV in the coming days.

I'd love to see him take on Taker. And it would be epic if he broke the streak.

I hope he stays as far away from HHH as possible for obvious reasons.

This is the first time in a long time that I can't wait to see Raw.

At this point if not at Mania Punk will cross paths with HHH at some point.Has to because of Punk's comments.

Then Punk better be prepared to navigate those political waters again. The potential for burial is troubling...unless HHH can put his nose and his ego aside.

He better have a "burial-free" clause in his new contract...

this is why i love wrestling this felt like the attitude era

pro wrestling has been around for ages but the 1 thing that will reel in any wrestling fan is unpredictability it is what makes us cant wait what happens next week

That is if CM Punk re-signs with the WWE, which I don't see happening, at least not right now.

I think this is the WWE wanting to give the WWE Title to him so that he would not say anything negative about the WWE.

He's leaving on a high note.

Punk will probably drop the title on RAW and take some time off for a bit before he comes back to WWE.

Punk winning the title was purely to create buzz and pop the RAW rating tomorrow. WWE did a terrfic job with the angle tonight

...Eh, I don't see him simply dropping the title on Raw. It would be extremely anti-climatic. IF he leaves, he leaves WITH the title.

I just told my wife that I watch Raw out of habit, I often hate the show... but I continue to watch because I have watched since before I can remember. Tomorrow's RAW is the first Raw that I've been excited for in a looooong time.
