Wait a minute... the 18th shooting of 2018?
FFS That’s one shooting incident every 2.5 days.
How is this kind of statistic not a national tragedy? :csad:
Problem I have with that number is the stats oftentimes include shootings that occurred near a school (say the road in front of a school or a parking lot) but at times when no students and/or employees were actually around when it happened. For example, I remember seeing a shooting that occurred in my area listed as a "school shooting" by a national source when is was more a guy who exchanged shots late at night with cops in a parking lot of a grocery store across the street from a high school. Those kind of shootings really inflates the total and seems kind of like a misrepresentation of facts to paint a certain kind of narrative.

ABC said that there were 15 dead so far. :(

Oh here's a source that details the shootings. A conservative one even. There's no agenda here, just a horrible problem with an obvious solution. And that is called better gun laws.

My husband says CNN said 16. Out of control. Too many young lives lost over something that will no doubt turn out to be stupid.:(

Oh please... So what do you read?

Mostly Fox, GOPUSA, and the uk paper, the daily mail.

While it is true, we do see that, such as one iirc mid last year, where cops shot at a felon, who ran THROUGH school property, but cornered him a block away.. I do find it weird we've had so many incidents in schools..

Especially when prior to say the late 90s, we actually HAD guns in schools (for NROTC like programs) and i didn't hear of any such things...

They're saying 17 dead now.

Why would anyone in their right mind read objectively terrible tabloid trash and disreputable news channels, knowingly?

Now being reported that on social media, the shooter was following a bunch of armed resistance groups, namely those in Syria and Iraq, and had been looking up stuff on bomb-making.

It’s ok guys. Everyone’s sending thoughts and prayers. Besides it’s too early to politicize this. Let’s give it a couple of weeks and then talk about it. Unless there’s another shooting. Then we should wait two more weeks. But what are the chances of that really?

ftfw.

Not sure if this kid thought things through. No way is he not getting the death penalty.

I know statically, it’s unlikely to happen, but this scares the **** out of me. My little girl is 3 and the idea of her getting gunned down in school is maybe the worst thing I can think of. **** our gun obsessed culture.

I have a 6 and 2 year old and feel the same. You’re right statistically it won’t happen but that doesn’t mean I don’t wonder if some mornings, it could be the last. It’s sad that’s the world we live in.

When the blood of elementary kids didn't cause any action, and the biggest shooting in American history was forgotten in weeks, I knew we had totally lost our way.

Terrible incident. All too common nowadays. These laws won't get changed regardless.

I have no family in school right now but I feel your concerns. This isn't something parents should have to worry about. :(

I don't understand American conservatives. Maybe LTuser can enlighten me. On Twitter, the conservative narrative is always "It's not a gun issue, it's a mental health issue". Ok.

Then if mental health is an issue, why applaud Trump striking down a regulation that kept people with mental issues from guns? If it's not about guns, then why do these shootings keep happening in the developed country with the most lax guns law? Why doesn't these shootings happen regularly in Canada, the UK, Australia, Japan, Korea, etc? Why the USA only?

Because they know they can just wait it out like they always do. School shooting have no effect on elections. They know they can just wait till the story dies.

While cutting money for mental health care at the same time.:(

I'm not convinced that even if Jesus came down from heaven and tried to convince conservative to change the gun laws that these insane laws would be changed.

I have a 6 year old niece in school so I can imagine how parents must feel about school shootings.

They would say that Jesus is the anti-christ and a trick of the devil and not the real Jesus.

They'd probably call him a terrorist as well since he'd look Middle-Eastern.
