I miss Freddy too. Jackie Earle Haley did the best he could in the remake but that pretty much proved that Freddy isn't a James Bond or a Batman where you can keep recasting him. Robert Englund left some impossible shoes to fill, there's really no Freddy without him.

I wouldn't say it proved it....one attempt doesn't really say much.

Maybe audiences would have been more accepting towards a different actor playing Freddy if they had tried to do something new instead of a by-the-numbers remake of the original but the backlash to that is the reason why the franchise has been in limbo for almost 15 years.

Freddy is a tricky one, but I think it can be done. Great actor but Jackie Earle Haley wasn't a good choice for that role.

The film in general just wasn't good. Ripping away Freddys personality also didn't help

Was this it? Seems legit to me.

We were so close with A24...now we get...Halloween Multiverse...oh boy.
Oh well, i said it before, im open for more Halloween for sure...so let us see what goes on before we fall on our knees and ask a vengeful god...WHY.

Not to get too far off the Halloween topic, but I actually really enjoy the Nightmare remake personally. And I think Jackie did a great job as Freddy. Of course Robert is iconic in the role, but I think Jackie was great too. I know I’m in the minority though.

Wasn't a fan of Jackie's Freddy but in fairness I blame the direction and writing of it more than Jackie himself. I maintain that Englund is replaceable and to think that there isn't another actor out there and can do a great Freddy is being close-minded IMO.

I definitely disagree with that. All that remake proved is that if you recast & then reuse a lot of Englund's famous lines on top of terrible writing that it will obviously be a lackluster performance.

I have no doubt that there are actors out there capable of making Freddy memorable in their own way. As with any character, it just takes proper writing as well as a director that has vision. Getting a music video director was just an awful, awful decision.

Haley did a great job with what he was given, and what he was given was poor. I absolutely think a new nightmare on elm street film could work, but I think there's a lot of horror fans that won't accept anybody other than englund in the role. Let's face it, a lot of diehard fans of freddy aren't that open minded. They live in the past and won't accept a new iteration of freddy without Englund involved. At least not until it's proven it can work without him. The remake didn't do any favors in that regard.

As great as Englund is as Freddy, i think he is "replacable".
I think you can do a Nightmare reboot/Remake that can work.
The Problem of the 2010 one was that it was just a really bland movie despite a fantastic Haley.
The script and all is just super lame and the movie is shot very lackluster.

You need to do one that is not trying to be what the Franchise was and instead what it could be.
I think that is what most of these Franchises should do.

The creepiest moment in the OG Halloween is when Michael is stood in the doorway with a sheet over him, wearing Bob's glasses over it. It's very unsettling when you see Lynda speaking so casually and teasingly to 'Bob', but we the audience know that it's not him. The idea of staring back at someone/something alien that you don't know, but you think you know. It's skincrawlingly creepy.

The Halloween cinematic universe idea is stupid. All I ask is that whatever they do is better than Kills and Ends :o

Besides the iconic moments like the one you mentioned and the "sit up", the one that's always got me is when Laurie is telling the kids that the bogeyman is dead only to turn and see him standing at the top of the stairs staring at them. Best shot of Michael Myers in the series...my opinion of course.

Finally got around to watching Halloween Ends last night. Now I can officially say I love Green's trilogy :hrt:

I understand and respect that Ends is not for everybody but as an examination of trauma (which the Halloween franchise has always trafficked in), I thought Corey fit seamlessly into the franchise on a thematic level.

I think this new trilogy will become more valuable to many fans as it ages. Not to be morbid but it's only a matter of time before the OG Halloween actors start joining Donald Pleasence in the afterlife. When that day comes, I think we'll be very grateful we got to see some of them get one final kick at the can.

I know I will be :yay:

I was more disappointed with Kills than Ends, mainly for a lot of the storytelling choices it made. That said, I think if I had to choose I'd prefer the '78-'18-Kills-Ends timeline over the '78-II-H20 timeline.

I really wish Cory would've been introduced in H18 to have his character marinate and his arc organically progress over the three entries.

However, I believe the idea of Cory's character was quickly created over the COVID period. Would love to know what DGG's original plan was before they went back to tweak the story.

Part of me wants to think that the original plan was to have Ends happen right after Kills so that all three movies take place on the same night but the time jump was needed because of Laurie being incapacitated throughout all of Kills.

I agree with that opinion about all three on the same night.

That would've been a long night for sure, but would've allowed Laurie's granddaughter to assume the lead and face Michael. She not only lost her parents, her boyfriend, and a close friend but also saw her grandmother left in critical condition in the span of one night with the killer still out there. Allyson was surrounded by death!

You started to see her transformation at the climax of Kills, the progression from fear to numbness to anger to rage within Allyson as that night went along. Would've been awesome to see how her character would be in Ends had it all been the same night.

I'm honestly glad they didn't set the third film on the same night. I feel like it would've just had this feeling of "dragging on" and trying to do too much in one specific time period. I remember being super relieved when they initially announced it'd take place four years later.

I do wish Allyson had a bit more to do in HE, but what's there isn't terrible imo and also does make sense despite many claiming everything seemed out of character for her. It was nice that she returned in the end to help Laurie, but I do feel given all that she ultimately lost to Michael that she could've played an even bigger part in his demise.
