Any love for Juicy J and Project Pat? Their brand of heavy gothic-crunk style influenced more rappers/producers today than arguably any other artist. Just look at Lex Luger's sound and how his production style has trickled into nearly every facet of mainstream rap, and know that it was influenced primarily by Three 6 Mafia's deep discography.
It's ignorant, vile rap at it's finest and I recommend giving some of it a shot if you can wade through the chaff, as they have hundreds upon hundreds of songs.

Kendrick's new song has really grown on me.I keep playing that and Lupe's Next To it on repeat currently, and I finally listened to Common's new album it's really good.

People are pretty upset about Eminem's Ray Rice/Lana Del Ray line from the Cypher

I think it's pretty silly. I mean the only time I think Em went too far was with "Kim". This is Em we're talking about how many songs does he have about being a serial killer or some weird sh**

Also funny to me is anyone who complains about this line but listens to Lil Wayne, TI, 50 Cent, Rick Ross, etc. who rap about killing people on every album.

whats the line- where can you find the song? is it on the radio?

Just type in Shady Cypher into google and you'll find the video

EDIT: I think the line is: "I'll Punch Lana Del Rey Right in the Face Twice Like Ray Rice"

Classic Em. I've got to hear that cypher.

What young thug songs? I can't stand his voice and the way he raps but I haven't heard that much of his stuff to be honest. Rich Homie Quan I can get down with though.

I like Young Thug on TI's "About the Money" but other than that I havent heard anything impressive by him

On another subject: ASAP Yams (or one of the lesser known dudes in ASAP Mob) said: 2014 was the worst year in rap.

Thoughts?

I can't say it was the worst, but it has been pretty uneventful. What were the big major releases? Schoolboy Q, YG, T.I., Big K.R.I.T., Common, Young Jeezy, and G-Unit had their comeback EP. I listened to all of those albums except KRIT's and none of them were even a little bit impressive. Honestly it's a chore for me to listen to albums nowadays. None of them really keep my attention and I end up being bored; forget about multiple listens.

Run the Jewels was the only album that was easy to listen to and was thoroughly well done and interesting throughout

And besides albums, because we all know creating an album is a dying art, there were no great rap songs this year (besides Run the Jewels) that I can think of. I mean there were some I really enjoyed but nothing largely impressive.
What were the biggest rap songs? Iggy Azalea's Fancy, 0-100 by Drake (the G-unit remix was better), Anaconda by Nicki Minaj, Hot N**** by Bobby Schmurda, and then a couple of Pitbull songs. Nothing really to write home about.

J. Cole is dropping an album in December. As Ive said before Im not overly impressed with his music, but it'll have a lot of people talking

It's pretty telling that this forgotten demo song sounds like the best track from Shady XV so far. I like Eminem but he just can't recapture his prime, and it's frustrating because he's still immensely talented. Wish he'd go back to his old flow, because his new obsession with packing lines comes off more as a party trick than good song writing.

I'd probably agree that 2014 has been a weak year. Run The Jewels 2 was great though.

Eminem now "in trouble again" for saying he wants to rape Iggy Azalea

Put that s*** away Iggy / You don't wanna blow that rape whistle on me / Scream! I love it / 'Fore I get lost with the gettin' off.-Eminem

Hard to have any reaction to another "controversy" like this. It's what Eminem does. The only thought I have is that is sounds tired, and it's telling that he manages to dodge any male names, and I can only assume it's because he fears retaliation from anyone other than an easy target at this point.

Given the entire album a listen now. Pretty much as I expected. The Lose Yourself demo is completely different and nearly as good as the final version. Sadly its presence only harms the rest of the disc in comparison.

2014 Em continues his trend of choking out tracks with as many bars as possible. It feels more and more like an endurance test listening to this guy. There is some good material here, but you have to unpick each verse to find it. There's a funny nod to his old voice and delivery on the opening track, doesn't last long enough.

Moreover, Em also seems intent on suffocating everyone else on the album too, massively outnumbering the others. Budden and Ortiz only get one verse each on the whole project, on the already released Premo track. Can't believe there wasn't room for more appearances from Slaughterhouse members, considering all 4 are good enough to stand alone. They're all fine on here though clearly playing second fiddle.

D12 have their one token song, minus Eminem of course, which is average. Ironically, on an album where Eminem keeps stepping in to steal others' thunder, this is the one song which could have done with his presence if only for solidarity. They appear to remain in an eternal holding pattern and its a shame. I can't imagine D12 on the album is anything more than an obligation at this point.

Yelawolf fares the best here. He pops up a few times in different positions and kills it. He's not for everyone, but he's settling comfortably into a unique sound and is the only artist on here who really owns his role every time. Hopefully this project will give him the push he needs to release "Love Story".

Calling it right now T-Pain's new song "Coming Home" will be a top 20 hit. Used in commercials and movie trailers. You dont have to like the song, but its obvious.

It's kinda weird Eminem doing this. Im not gonna lie I hate Iggy Azalea so Im glad he got at her, but the whole rape thing was just weird.

And like you said it sounds tired. It's like when Em "dissed" Asher Roth or mentioned him in a song last year. And theyre not even clever or funny like his disses used to be.
It seems lazy and like Em just wants attention same with the Lana Del Rey line.

I do like how Iggy Azalea is basically not getting any respect save from Hip hop save for TI. She needs to be moved out. "Queen of Hip Hop" my ass...

No she doesnt call herself that other people do.

Forbes and other misc. people on twitter, facebook, etc. do

In other news, Ive been bumping "Link Up" by Jeezy on repeat for the past hour. It's him Ty Dolla $ign and Beenie Man produced by DJ Mustard.

Wish it wouldve dropped in the summer. Its a really fun track. He should add T.I. on it and put it on their collab album

It's a shame Azealia Banks has such an attitude problem. Ive been listening to songs from her album and it's pretty good. Way better than any song I heard Nicki Minaj or Iggy Azalea put out. She could be a star

One of the most fun, genre mixing hip hop albums Ive heard in a bit. Better than a lot of established rappers most recent efforts

I still hold to the fact that Drake and Rick Ross are the two most overrated artists working today. Drake especially, 305 to my city is one of the most obnoxious songs I've ever heard.

J Cole's album leaked.

WAAAAAY Better than his past albums. Really cool. A little too mellow for my liking* but it was cool. Nice and short, never really got bored. Probably the 2nd best rap project released that year that Ive heard. Better than the projects released by Big KRIT, Schoolboy, TI, YG, and G-Unit (Gotta listen to that new Wu album though)

I still think he's overrated, and nothing on the album touched "She Knows" but this new album is a big step in the right direction. Fire Squad, GOMD, and January 28 were my favorite tracks. I'll be buying this

The thing that will get/has already gotten everyone buzzing:
History repeats itself and thats just how it goes
Same way that these rappers always bite each others flows
Same thing that my n**** Elvis did with Rock n Roll
Justin Timberlake, Eminem, and then Macklemore
While silly n**** argue over who gone snatch the crown
Look around my n****white people have snatched the sound
This year i’ll prolly go to the awards dappered down
Watch Iggy win a Grammy as I try to crack a smile
I’m just playin, but all good jokes contain true s***
Same rope you climb up on, they’ll hang you with
But not Jermaine, my aim too sick
I bang n****, I came to bring the pain my brain too quick
You see how I maneuver this game, I ain’t stupid
I recognize that life is a dream, and I dream lucid
And break the chains and change minds, one verse at a time
Bet none of them respond on wax and just say in interviews something along the lines of "It's all good, It's all love, etc. etc." People on twitter joking that Em will respond in like 5 years
