I guess I'll have to watch Sinister it's been on the back burner for a while.

Yea it really was. I agree about the ending though Gremlin it totally flipped the other side of the coin. :whatever: whats with wan and his posessed children i know kids have been a target in horrors these days steming back to Nightmare on elm street maybe even before that. I dont know guys its becoming abit cliche now ,in every horror film ive seen this year its about children being posessed or playing with spirits. I guess its the times we live in.

James Wan didn't make Sinister.

Sinister was far Superior to Insidious and Conjuring. I'm watching Candyman now. I've finished the first hour and will wrap it up later. Starts out good then drags and gets boring and nothing I haven't seen before. Pretty average movie.
I liked Sinister, but it wasn't anything above average. Candyman is, however, in my above average picks.

Is there a third Tales from the Crypt movie out now? I bought the entire series last month, and today I picked up the two-film pack of Bordello of Blood and Demon Knight. However, someone mentioned there was another film from the series that was either coming out or was out in the last couple years, and I can't seem to find anything about it.

Candyman is fantastic. That movie actually takes on incorporates a number of issues, and not just the obvious race/class issues at its center.

I also find the film to be absolutely terrifying when it suddenly cuts to the main character waking up in a pool of blood and holding the meat cleaver, completely unaware of what has happened or how she got there. That really freaks me out and the abrupt switch between scenes really sells the effect.

http://www.slantmagazine.com/features/article/100-greatest-horror-films-of-all-time

The staff at Slant put together a "100 greatest horror movies" list. All lists of this kind are pretty well bunk but this one in particular has some bizarre inclusions and omissions. Several of the films they pick are only borderline horror films to begin with and there are several great, iconic and influential films that they leave right off. The order is also quite strange.

I think The Exorcist had a big influence on horror film writers.

pediaphobia (fear of children) is a long standing tradition of the horror/supernatural genre.

There have been stories about ghost children for evil spirits for centuries.

What year did the name "Michael Myers" arrive into pop culture?

I finished watching the first two Halloween movies and both said The Shape at the end in the credits. I know I didn't hear Michael in Halloween 1, I don't recall in H2.

Was it H4?
He was Michael Myers from the get go. The only line the Myers' parents have collectively is, "Michael?"

They say his name in every single film that he's in I'm almost 100% positive.

Speaking of Michael Myers how cool is this:

This is pretty cool and the VHS look really works save for the fact that these actors don’t look like stars from the 80′s. Director Jay Burleson has teamed with actor V/H/S and You’re Next actor Lane Hughes to create a trailer for the “lost” film Halloween: Harvest Of Souls.

Just as good as the trailer is the backstory they came up with for this thing, which is specific enough to almost be believable. “After the failure of ‘Halloween III: Season of the Witch’, the rights to the ‘Halloween’ franchise were lost in the shuffle of a merger, and a sequel to ‘Halloween II’ was quickly rushed into production by a new team of producers. The new installment, ‘Halloween: Harvest of Souls’, was viewed as a direct sequel to the second film and would be a true ‘Halloween III’ with Michael Myers.

The film was made on a shoestring budget, even less than Carpenter’s original, and did not feature a return by Jamie Lee Curtis. The character of Loomis returns, still played by Donald Pleasence, but in a limited capacity. To keep pace with the height of the ’80s slasher craze, Harvest of Souls featured extreme nudity and gore, and had yet to receive better than an X-rating before it was canned.

Original series producer Moustapha Akkad tied the rights up with a long legal battle, which he ultimately won, and ‘Harvest of Souls’ was shelved altogether in favor of ‘Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers’, which was released in 1988, three years after Souls was filmed. Until recently, ‘Harvest of Souls’ was nothing more than an urban legend, the original film print long lost, the knowledge of its very existence scarce. A lone VHS tape, found in an abandoned storage locker, containing the X-rated cut of the film and a very tame ‘PG’ trailer, recently surfaced and that brings us to the here and now. The release of the aforementioned trailer and proof that this urban legend is real.”

So, wait, is this playing on an actual urban legend about the franchise, or is all that back story invented for the trailer?

Sounds amazing, but I can't tell it it's confirmed the film was ever shot or not.

Edit: Nevermind it's all just for fun, unimpressive though anyways.

The whole story is fake. Film was never shot, doesn't exist. Someone made this cheesy trailer and, along with it, created a "backstory" for the film that never was.

I'd like to see a GOOD fanmade Halloween trailer, set in any era, to demonstrate how to properly reboot the series.

i like the "bonfire" scene at the end. it really looked like someone was being cooked alive. tragic.

the other movie is called 'Ritual.' i don't recommend it. it's the poorest of the 3; with Demon Knight being the best (imo).

Just watched Santa's Slay and the 1974 classic Black Christmas. Santa's Slay was a lot of fun. Over the top violence and very humorous.

Black Christmas was as awesome as ever. I only have a minor problem with the ending. Why the Hell did they leave Jess (Olivia Hussey's character, the sole survivor) alone in the house? Shouldn't they have sent her to the hospital? Not checking the attic makes sense (that's the crime labs job, not the police). But why leave her alone in the house? Just my opinion.

hmm. i don't even remember that happening. i thought that her story was kind of over after she offed her boyfriend. i will have to rewatch it. the sheriff's department was kind of inept.

Agreed, I didn't think it was special, but I thought it was ok and definitely had a story to tell unlike most movies. The female lead was really cold, but hey, not all people are nice people.

that's true. but the easiest way to scare a movie-goer is to make them identify with the protagonist. if the protagonist is a tool, then that's not as likely to happen. i'm the only horror fan in my family. so i try to pay attention to what they react to; positively and negatively. they disliked Chastain's character; from jump. and i could tell that they weren't going to give the movie a chance, because of it. observation over/

Since I saw Santa's Slay with some friends for a bad movie night (along with Curse of the Devil, Black Samurai Agent of DRAGON, Monster Man, The Beast of Yucca Flats, and Manos: The Hands of Fate), I went out of the way to buy the movie and play it every December. Might break it out Thanksgiving weekend since it's so late and overlaps with Hanukkah this year. Make it a special evening with the Festival of Lights, a menorah to the throat, and all the fixin's.

on the subject of killer Santa movie recommendations...i started but never finished (had to go to work) a decent Dutch movie titled 'Saint Nick.' if you can handle dubbed voices, i'd say it's worth a rent.

I think it takes balls for a mainstream film (especially a horror film) to show a stubborn, not perfect character. There is nothing inherently wrong with a character not wanting kids and them being suddenly thrust into a crazy situation having to take care of two, one of which is feral. She did act selfishly and angry, but her gradual caring for the girls was thankfully underplayed on the cheesy scale. Her character is what helped take the film to a different level than most of it's kind imo.

Very cool vintage trailer.

Can't believe you casted me as Pinkman's dad in Breaking Bad featuring a cast made up of Hypesters. Smfh.

Harsh, but I shall remember it for years to come. And I will be avenged.

House at the End of the Street is supposed to be a horror though it felt more like a thriller or mystery to me. The only horror here is how twisted the killer turned out to be and what made them into who they were.

I'm not sure if anyone hasn't seen it yet but on the off chance there are unspoiled posters the [blackout]Sleepaway Camp[/blackout] reveal will be a bit of a surprise. Maybe. I guessed most of what was going on before that but the twist at the very end makes the killer seem more understandable, if still completely crazy.
