I liked Mane's performance as Myers in the first movie.

However, the next person to don the mask and coverall doesn't need to be a monster as the original proves... and for the love of God, don't let Platinum Dunes get their filthy paws on Halloween.

I honestly wouldn't have as big of a problem as most would if PD did get a Halloween film in production. Aside from their version of Freddy I really liked what they did with Leatherface and loved Derek Mears Jason a lot.

I like BOTH Zombie Halloween films.

BOOM. That. Just. Happened.

I liked the remake, I haven't seen the sequel to the remake.

I wonder what the sequel to Trick R Treat will be like.

The Halloween remake was good at the start, but after a while it felt like it dragged at the end, I just stopped caring. Glad it cost me nothing.

Eh, H2 is trippy. I respect that RZ had some serious balls to do what he did with his vision, and in the end most did not like it, BUT I really think it's a cool alternative to what we got with the other 8 Halloween movies.

The next Halloween should be connected to the other movies but not really at the same time. Like mention Laurie and Loomis, the sister being murdered, the killings every Halloween, but leave the thorn curse bs back in the garbage where it belongs.

Crank the blood up, have Myers sneak his way to kill his victims and TADA you got a decent Halloween movies. No relations to the other 1-8 movies aside from what was noted above.

Another cool idea would be to have ANOTHER movie tied to H2 (like H20) and have Myers super crispy like he was at the end of H2 and introduce a new story.

Dunno, tons and TONS of ways to make a decent Halloween movie again without even bringing up or explaining dumb **** from the previous films. Soft reboot like Evil Dead 2013 would be the best route.

I would like a new Halloween to drop the relationship between Laurie and Michael completely. It's so much more creeper when you watch Halloween without knowing that he's basically stalking his sister. I mean, it was just a stupid plot twist that they threw in H2 to make it more appealing.

I wish I were one of those people. In this day and age, it would be very rare.

When I first watched the original I had no idea. It was one of my first horror films, a neighbor had a clamshell VHS I still own that she gave me free at a garage sale, along with a copy of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I don't particularly remember my thoughts besides loving how scary it seemed to me at the time. I remember Haloween II on TV and didn't actually think much of the sister revelation however I now agree a lot with the sister thing not being as good. Although if you watch the first two and H20 it makes a damn good trilogy.

I'm almost at the end of my Friday the 13th marathon and it's been rather depressing.

After the first four movies, this series went WAY off track and I can enjoy the rest for what they're worth but I won't be rushing back to watch them anytime soon.

I actually feel the same way. If i'm in the mood for a Friday The 13th marathon, I'll typically only watch the first 4 or 5. Maybe up to Jason Lives, as that one is very entertaining. But to be honest, 1 through 4 are the best in the series.

See I don't respect Zombie doing something different with Halloween cause he just made it like his other movies. It was typical Rob Zombie cack in my eyes with the second one (remake was OK). I don't think that guy knows how to make a decent movie without using profanties and shock.

Complaints about shock plays in a horror film thread....

But the guy does shock for shock sakes not because its interesting. Take the rape escape from the DC of Halloween its just there for shock value it adds absolutely nothing to the story.

I like them too. I guess the best way I can put it is that I like them as movies even though its not what I would have wanted from a Halloween remake. I think he used a lot of his ideas for T Rex in those Halloween movies and IMO it would have worked better with that new character. Halloween was going to fail no matter what or who though. When the original is that good... there's no place to go but down.

PD sickens me. There's almost no horror there and we get action movies with a horror icon. Then those icons sputter out fast and no one wants to used them for years.

F13 was almost good. The first 15 mins was pretty awesome but then it blew out like a fart in the wind and cheesed out by the end.

I don't know about that. That movies filled with the notion that everyone in place to help MM fails him. Even his mother and Machete bring sleazy people into his life with the people they surround him with.

Exactly.

The F13 remake felt way too much like the TCM remake.

Agree to disagree there's too many things he threw in there in my opinion just to see what he could get away with.

I don't mind PD at all Friday the 13th was awesome in my eyes, I also dug TCM more than the original.

They did fail for me with the TCM prequel and the Hitcher though.

Asfor the ANOES remake, they got bits right but ultimately they restrained it too much with the trappings of doing a remake. They should have ignored the original and made a fresh take. The girl from Arrow should have been the lead for one and they should have killed Nancy in the opening, no one would have expected that.

As fir them doing Halloween, id be fine with it. I'm sure it'd be a huge step up from Zombies H2 which
I think is the worst film in the big horror franchises.

Exactly.

Well the same producers choosing the same director would probably explain that but to me aside from some of the gritty feel, they didn't feel very similar at all to me aside from it's a bunch of young kids getting slaughtered by a masked guy.

Agreed, they're not even structured the same.

I got a copy of the UK blu-ray if you read some reviews they're pretty good, usually 4 out of 5 stars and I just watched it the other day for a film from the 70's imo the transfer is fantastic, not perfect but damn close.

On the subject of remaking the film, it really is a perfect example of a "product of its time" I have no interest in ever seeing a remake made.

Right on. Synapse is pretty damn good with their transfers so I'll wait and see what the reviews for their version are like.

I agree about no remake. If you like the original why in the hell would you want a remake.

As much as fans hate on what Zombie did with the backstory and "rednecky" approach to Halloween, I felt Myers was a legit threat again. He felt like a force to be reckoned with. Something I don't think any of the sequels outside of H2 and H20 accomplished very well.

And I don't see much similarities with the PD Chainsaw and Friday even though they were directed by the same guy. Texas Chainsaw Massacre was much more stylized and hyper-gritty. Friday the 13th was more naturalistic in it's photography. I guess Jason having a liar is what makes them similar:huh:

I for one don't understand how Friday fans can hate the 09 film. It's like a lost sequel more than anything. Like Friday the 13th part 3.5. It's like some hate it because it's labeled a remake. Not to mention they bemoan aspects of that film they love and champion in the originals.

I certainly don't hate the F13 remake, to me, it's way better than a lot of the sequels that came before.

Maybe it's just me, but when I watched it, the atmosphere was just really similar to TCM. I guess same director etc...

I'm in the middle of the debate, I don't hate the remake, but I don't love it either. I think a lot of people, even after the stupid sequels that came before it don't like it restarting the series. Some people just get turned off by remakes.

You know, I know Jason X sucks, sort of anyway. I enjoy parts. But I've often theorized, if they wanted to continue on from Freddy vs Jason, couldn't X be labeled a dream? I mean maybe Freddy was for a time trapped at Crystal Lake, and decided to torment Jason. And for some silly reason, in Freddy getting creative, dreamed up the future idea, and then we could have Jason waking up in 2009 and realizing it never happened.

I hope the next Halloween movie places Michael back to his roots, stalking completely random people for no discernible reason.
