Paranormal Activity and Bruno are the worst movies I have watched in theaters![]()
Transformers 2 is easily the worst film I've ever paid to watch. I only saw it because my friends wanted to.
I definitely agree about Contracted. I thought the make-up was fine, but some of the acting was bad (especially the actress who played the mom), and some of what was required in the script...like everyone all but dismissing what was obviously a very serious problem...hurt the believability. Even the doctor, after watching her all but fall to pieces (literally) in front of him was like "You're a walking biohazard and a threat to everyone near you...have a nice day and come back some other time." I keep telling myself that this was all social commentary on how shallow we are (it took place in Los Angeles) but I'm not sure that the movie was that clever. Like...even the promo info talks about how she had a one night stand, but it was clearly a date rape...even though the character then treats it like a one night stand the entire rest of the film. Was this bad writing or am I supposed to assume that she blamed herself for the act and wanted to keep the info from her girlfriend so bad that even the promotional blurb for the DVD covered it up?
These Paranormal Activity films are cheap to make so it easy for them to turn a profit. There seems to be enough people willing to pay to see sequel after sequel of these films.
Maybe we should make our own Paranormal Activity? I can sleep while the camera is on, and you can slam the door a couple of times.
I'll provide the spooky sound effects by going "oohhhoohhooohh" and maybe throw something across the room from off camera so it can be seen flying through the air.
I read a few reviews of this one because the premise intrigued me. but I have the feeling that it's one of those movies that would leave me feeling uncomfortable (ex. 'Dead Girl'). horror stories hinging on date rape kind of get to me.
So I watched The Funhouse, an 80's Tobe Hooper film. I'd give it something like a 5/10. It has its moments but for a 96 minute film, nothing happens for at least the first 55. The rest is pretty standard horror fare and I probably could have watched something better.
I just got to meet Robert Englund at Vancouver Fan Expo. He was very cool. I asked him if he would be willing to play Freddy Krueger in a prequel to ANOES. He said he would love to lose 10 pounds and dye his hair red for the role.
In fact, he told me that before the remake was announced, there were talks of actually doing a prequel movie. He said that while he would appear periodically throughout the film as Freddy abducted and killed little kids, the stars of the film would have been the police and the lawyers. The police in arresting him, then the lawyers in getting him off on a technicality. Then the movie was gonna end with him being torched by the vigilante lynch mob.
Unfortunately the movie never got past the pre-planning stages. And now with the remake out there, there's even less chance of it happening.
Too bad too, because that movie would've been all kinds of awesome!
Has anyone seen Afflicted? It's a damn good horror film. If you people enjoy [REC] and [REC]2 and Chronicle, you'll really enjoy this. So far it's easily the best horror film this year. I suggest to go into this movie cold, don't even watch the trailers or photos of it. It'll make it even better of a experience.
Here's my somewhat spoiler-free review:
There usually comes a time every now and then when great indie horror films that gets talked about for the future years to come...this is indeed one of them. I don't want to get too much into the plot because it's better off not knowing anything... even from the trailers. Basically imagine a horror version of Chronicle. What you have here is a mockumentary horror film and it's so awesome. You have believable characters which is key to every good horror film. They also move away from a lot of recent found footage clichés that you'd expect, which was a fresh surprise to me. You also have some very nice GO Pro POV shots that at times reminds me of [Rec] and [Rec]2. Basically, if you are a horror fan or a casual horror fan, this is indeed a must see. It might even sway those hardcore anti-found footage groups.
9.5/10
I understand the feeling. I put off purchasing this one for years. looking at the cover, it feels like a movie that would be special and memorable. the poster was my screensaver at work, all of last October. but the movie itself was kind of dull. there were good ideas in there. maybe they just didn't develop the story enough.
You hit the nail on the head. It had a lot of potential, had awesome poster work, and had a director I enjoy from a few other films, but it was such a let down. For what its worth, I debated on getting the new Scream Factory release, which had extras and deleted scenes and such, but honestly after seeing it I never would have cared enough after seeing it. I ended up buying a $6 4-pack with Phantasm II, The Serpent and the Rainbow, and some low budget film called Ssssssssss. Haven't watched that last one but $6 for TSatR and Phantasm II justifies the price for me.

I've never been interested in seeing old Englund picking up the glove again.
I mean, under makeup it wouldn't really matter but really they should just let the franchise lie, take its influence and make something new.
Deadline said:After slicing and dicing his way through a dozen feature films, Jason Voorhees is ready to slash his way to small-screen stardom. Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films and Crystal Lake Entertainment have set a deal to produce a new hourlong dramatic series based upon the characters and settings of Friday The 13th. Sean S. Cunningham, who helmed the 1980 original, will be executive producer along with EFO Films principals Randall Emmett & George Furla, Mark Canton of Atmosphere Entertainment MM, Steve B. Harris of Diversion3 Entertainment, and Ted Fox of Fox Entertainment. Also producing is Horror Inc. president Robert Barsamian, who produced the features.
Bill Basso (Terminator) and Jordu Schell (Avatar) have been set to script a storyline that re-imagines Jason in multiple time periods. Roy Knyrim (Gods And Monsters) of SOTA FX will coordinate the special make-up effects for the series. If you recall, the original was set at a summer camp, closed because of the drowning of an unattended child. Promiscuous counselors tried to re-open the place, but they began dying. Jason actually took root as the indestructible villain in the second film, with his signature hockey goalie mask coming later. The series is contemporary, focusing on the eclectic characters of Crystal Lake who are forced to confront the return of the killer, as new secrets about his wacky family are revealed.
“Jason Voorhees is synonymous with the genre and we plan to build on this legacy with a provocative and compelling take that expands upon the storylines that have already thrilled millions worldwide,” explained Cunningham. Said Barsamian: “Expect the show to take viewers in some exciting new directions that we’re confident will not only excite existing fans of Friday The 13th but also attract new audiences to the situations and characters that inhabit the small town of Crystal Lake.”
