The Horror Thread - Part 4

I was highly disappointed with Annebelle, apart from a couple of decent scenes (none of which was with Annebelle), it had nothing going on. It was definitely no Dead Silence.

Watched You're Next last night.

It was decent. Seemed a bit too much like an R-rated horror version of Home Alone at times. It wasn't bad, but not great. Basically a way to kill an hour and a half.

I saw Deliver Us From Evil. Not very good. The acting was fine but the plot was cliché and for a horror film it wasn't particularity scary.

I walked out of Annabelle twice during the show. Once about halfway through just to take a break and again after the climax because I just couldn't take anymore after they copied The Exorcist and Halloween. I tried to have fun with it, but it got to the point where I just got bored watching it, so I picked a point on the screen and stared at it. Bad, boring, unlikeable characters, terrible writing, a lot of odd choices of camera shots, and a bunch of cliches make for a very dismissive horror film.

I could go into details about why I disagree and feel Annabelle did plenty. But to just put it simply Annabelle was my favorite part of The Conjuring, so naturally I would enjoy her own movie. If someone told me she wasn't the highlight of the movie for them, then I would likely tell them they may not enjoy Annabelle as much as The Conjuring.

The doll worked as a good prologue/lead in for The Conjuring but then just kind of became an odd diversion.

The only sequence in the Annabelle film I really enjoyed was the elevator scene.

Watched Freddy vs Jason for the first time since it first came out last night.

Scary? No. Particularly compelling? No.

However, I still had a good time watching it. It just has some cool scenes and watching Freddy and Jason fight is worth the awful "kids" in the movie.

Best part: the Freddy-Jason fight scenes at Crystal Lake.

Worst part: the fake Jason Mewes kid.

If your going to do a horror movie centered around a doll, they better be damn sure to use animatronics and make that thing move. NOTHING is scary about a doll that just sits there.

Anabella was really lousy. At a certain point, the film became a game of "Spot the Horror Cliche". There were some good "scares" and celever sequences, none of which involved the doll itself.

Also, the movie itself just really didn't make too much sense at times.

That's pretty much my take on Freddy vs Jason. I would add that I also kinda liked Freddy & Jason's battle in the dream world. Not as good as the dream battle in ANOES 3: The Dream Warriors, but still pretty good.

And I think Kelly Rowland is tied with the fake Jason Mewes as the worst part of the movie. I'm not being racist with that comment either. The b**ch can't act worth a damn, and she looked way too old to be a high school student (not unless her character got held back at least ten times anyway).

Day 13

Friday The 13th (1980)

Friday The 13th 2 (1981)

True. I actually almost edited my comment after posting to mention how awful she was.

Still worth watching just to see that final battle between Freddy & Jason though. Too bad we had to wait until the very end for Kelly Rowland to die though. She should've been the first to go.

I think next weekend I'm going to watch all of the Marble Hornets videos on Youtube.

That finally ended didn't it? That series had some really engaging story lines but it just went on too damn long. Even in-story someone would comment on how nonsensical it was to mention some of the characters who had been missing for years.

SyFy (ugh!) has been replaying it a lot and I caught it. Like you said it's not scary or not particularly special in any way, but it's a fun ride. I still remember seeing it in theaters .

Just seen Annabelle, tbh I didn't find it slow at all but I did find it anti-climatic. I thought the opening was the best part of the movie with the Manson stuff but beyond that it didn't do enough. The ending was horrible, not tense at all and predictable. I would have preferred it had the Annabelle doll gone all Chucky at the end but ah well. I'll give it credit for keeping my interest for an hour but all in all it was a big step down from the Conjuring. 6/10

On another note though my wife **** herself throughout so that was fun.

Saw Nightbreed yesterday and man that **** was incredible. It's a shame it fizzled out after it came out. That movie had potential of being big film franchise or a long lasting tv series.

Watched Wolfcop (2014)

There is SO MUCH hype for this in Horror circles...it's supposed to be absurd and hilarious and awesome. It's just low budget and kind of boring. I giggled a few times, but it's really, really not worth the hype. I had completely lost interest before he even became Wolfcop.

Is Annabelle really that bad? I was thinking of seeing it this weekend.

My advice, go see it, but go when you know the cinema will be full or fullish. I had a good time watching it at the cinema, just go in with low expectations. It's still decent, the opening is great and ther are a few decent scares.

Stuck playing catchup again because of just general bad days and the good day of the Walking Dead coming back. Anyway, decided to watch Saw, Saw II and Night of the Creeps. I've owned Saw II for years and only just finally watched it.

two more episodes and i'm done with penny dreadful.

Not the biggest Saw fan myself but I thought Saw II was alright
