The Horror Thread - Part 5

Last great horror film that actually had me squirming in my seat was the Descent. It gave me a huge sense of claustrophobia, especially the scene where one of the girls is stuck in this tiny tunnel. Ugh.

Honestly, I feel that film doesn't get enough credit. I personally thought it was great. They did a lot of things right and watching the making of it, I have so much more respect for the production. It was really clever how they did the sets and the scares.

Not many people know this but, the actresses never got to see the creatures before filming. All of their screams of terror and fright are actually genuine. The director would constantly mislead them on set, as well as, had each of them film their separate jump scares with the creatures.

Some had seen what the creatures looked like while others hadn't. They wouldn't describe them to the ones who hadn't seen them yet and would tell them, just wait until your turn. All in all, it sounded like a fun film to work on.

The Descent is one of the best horror movies ever.

You're Next is one of my favorite horror movies in recent years.

I think the first Wolf Creek is decent but I love the second one.

I thought there used to be a KITCHEN SINK thread around here - I keep hearing its coming out this Labor Day - does anyone have any info on this...?

I haven't seen the Wolf Creek films, but I agree on You're Next. I loved that one.

I really liked the TCM remake and the prequel, so I kind of view it as one big movie like I do with the original Halloween.

Just watched The Woman in Black on Amazon Instant. Thought it was quite good.

Haven't heard anything positive about the sequel though. Anyone seen it?

The Women in Black I thought was pretty good but people have told me to avoid the Sequel. I might give it a rent on netflix just to see if its as bad as people say.

The sequel is a waste of time. Its actually a shame as they actually had the resources to put together a competently shot and acted movie just very little happens.

I don't think Woman in Black really called for a sequel. Seemed unnecessary

The sequel was ok. Nothing special. Went a bit 'The Ring'.

Its not so much that The Woman in Black called for a sequel but it was available for one. Most haunted houses are old. I like the idea that you can make stories about a single haunted location but interacting with people in different time periods.

I'm waiting for Hammer to get started on The Abominable Snowman remake that have been talking about for the last few years.

Hammer was also planning on making Gaslight which was on the 2011 Hollywood Black List.

I like the concept.
Secretly imprisoned in a London insane asylum, the infamous Jack the Ripper helps Scotland Yard investigators solve a series of grisly murders whose victims all share the iconic death brand: dual puncture wounds to the neck.
One of the producers was quoted saying: "the script is an atmospheric thriller that reads like a gothic Silence of the Lambs meets From Hell. He does a fantastic job of weaving iconic characters into a plausible and entertaining story."

Spectral is another cool concept supernatural movie being released next year.

Special Ops team dispatched to fight supernatural beings who have taken over a European city which is described as supernatural Black Hawk Down starring James Badge Dale (Iron Man 3), Bruce Greenwood (Star Trek), Louis Ozawa Changchien (Predators), Max Martini (Pacific Rim), Jimmy Akingbola (Arrow) and Emily Mortimer (Shutter Island).

Has anyone seen Corin Hardy's "The Hallow"?

As I said a few weeks ago, I've been trying to find it online but, to no avail. It looks really promising and I enjoy reading the reviews.

It's been doing the rounds at festivals and it comes out over here in the UK on November 13th.

No US release date as of yet.

Thanks guys.

I thought it was already released in the UK but, as Starlord stated, I just found out the release date isn't until November 13th. In my readings, I found that a US studio paid almost a million dollars to obtain distribution rights.

I'm hoping I can see this film soon. As I said, it looks very promising. I also like the premise of the story. I heard the creature effects are practical and top notch.

THE DIABOLICAL Official Trailer

Looks better than the Poltergeist remake.

Last reboot was dull as hell. I'm up for a new one.

I actually really liked the reboot. But I'm always up for more Freddy so bring on this new one.

Sharlto would be my pick for Freddy

He said he's done playing villains, but maybe he'd find Freddy to be a fun character
