The Horror Thread - Part 5

First one was pretty great, but the 2nd one was trying too hard.

I saw that the second one is on Netflix. I might check it out. Thankfully Amazon Prime had the first one because I wanted to see that first.

I caught "The Visit" last night a free screening. It such a bizarre film. It was sublime. At the end I could barely believe what I had just watched.

Shyamalan has so many odd ticks as a director and this film takes them to an extreme. It is peak Shamalan. He triples down on everything he's ever been criticized or praised for.

The Visit for the most part isn't even a horror film. Its mostly an oddly sincere family drama that in the last 5 minutes remembers that its supposed to be a horror film. It is a series of non-sequitirs and apparent Checov's Guns that have no payoff. It bounces back and forth between scenes of off kilter schlock and legitimately great performances from its young cast that are near comical due to the degree from which they contrast with the rest of the film.

I don't know if the Visit is a good movie. I'm not sure if it quite all hangs together, but I can only recommend seeing it because it is an experience worth having.

The Krampus trailer mostly avoids the Krampus himself but I think it looks good overall. Perhaps a bit more comedic in tone than Trick R Treat but definitely somewhere along the same lines. I like the almost toy like Krampus minions that WETA Workshop put together.

The Feast/Collector guys are doing it. It's called Halloween Returns. It's following the original two movies with Michael on death row after Loomis blew up the hospital.

Really?
This is the first I'm hearing of this.

Is Loomis dead?

Doesn't mention whether Loomis is dead. The rumor now is that officer who took over for Brackett in assisting Loomis after they found Annie's body is taking the Loomis-type role.

Even being as detailed as we could here, we anticipate that there are questions you may still have about the cuts of the film. Our Blu-ray producer has provided a couple of Q&As that we felt might come up and that some may be curious about:
Q: Is the U.S. Theatrical version a new transfer?
A: Unfortunately, we were not able to do a new transfer of the theatrical cut (which was provided by our partners at Universal). However, we did do additional color correction.
Q: Why is the International version a 4K transfer and not the Director’s Cut?
A: Our original intention was to do a new 4K scan on the director’s cut, so we started with elements that were available in the MGM vault. Unfortunately, we could not find all of the additional footage (film and audio) for the 96 minute Director’s Cut.

OMG "Krampus" looks amazing. TICKET SOLD.

The Feast/Collector guys are doing it. It's called Halloween Returns. It's following the original two movies with Michael on death row after Loomis blew up the hospital.

So somehow he does survive. He being Michael. And I assume Loomis is alive as well. I wonder who would take over the Loomis character then?

The Witch is so hyped right now.

I need to keep my expectations on check.

It's definitely super hyped, but that trailer was pretty amazing so I'm optimistic it's gonna be a decent flick. I know next to nothing about the plot, but the atmosphere in the teaser was fantastic.

And on a classic horror note, does anyone have any interest in one of the original horror movies of all time ? And by original I mean it was adapted from the 1818 novel by Hollywood in 1935. I am speaking of Frankenstein. It seems that November 2015 will have a Victor Frankenstein FOX movie with James McAvoy & Daniel Radcliffe.

I don't understand why Frankenstein movies keep getting made tbh. The Fox version looks atrocious

I wish someone would make a decent one, they keep trying to update it it go to out there with it.

Frankenweenie is the best Frankenstein-esque movie to be released in the past 15 years or so.

And yes I do love what Penny Dreadful has been doing with the story.

I may be in the minority with this but I always thought, excluding the original of course, that Kenneth Branagh's 1994 Frankenstein adaption was close to the source material & ended up being very good.
