The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013) - Part 1

Did you guys feel the movie was too short? I really felt like I wanted more, and then I went on wikipedia and saw 2 hours and 4 minutes.

I hope they make an extended edition. I want to see more of all the characters, though I know that won't happen.

It was 2 hours and 26 minutes. That's long enough, imo. But I certainly wouldn't have complained if it kept going.

My mistake, 2 hours and 26 minutes, it honestly felt like 1 hour and 26 minutes !

the movie ends like a 2 hour pilot to a new scifi tv series. of course it felt short and you wanted more. :woot::hehe:

2hrs 26 mins is a damn fine run time.

Let me know when Rachel Dawes or Pepper Potts are ever that clever.

They took out many scenes with Pepper Potts in Iron Man 3. One of them was how Pepper had bought out a soda company in Africa so she could use it to slip the cure for malaria in the drinks. Malaria gets cut down, consumers still buy cola.

Rachel? She's Batman's Bond girl. Bond girls die. Nuff said. Prepare the next one for the slab.

When theaters are willing to include interludes back in their services I'll be glad to see them extend films like in the old days.

I thought that the runtime was appropriate for the film. However, if there's a directors/extended cut, I certainly won't complain. This isn't a movie like Blade Runner or Daredevil, or Kingdom of Heaven where you NEEDED a director's cut because the movie was butchered by the studios, but it'd be a nice bonus.

I went to see it last night and agree this is clearly a step above the first film in every category, though I felt the end lagged a bit for me. Being a non-reader of the books I was bored here and there at the lack of good fight scenes this time around, since the first films very much disappointed me in every way possible. Overall great character development and story progression, if it wasn't for Jennifer Lawrence I don't know where this franchise would be, she is fantastic.

9/10-Boy do I hate coming into a thread to vote on a poll and it being closed!:cmad:

The story ultimately isn't about the fights. That's merely a plot device that is used to explore these characters, and this movie did that extremely well. So I was happy.

Yeah I understand all that but with the disappointing fights in the first I was just hoping for a few cool ones in the new one. I don't follow the books but I assume in the next film I'll get my fair share of fighting, so I was ok with it.

I felt the runtime was fine. There really wasn't much cut from the book, so the only way to extend it would be to pull a Peter Jackson with The Hobbit and add subplots. These subplots would also have to come out of thin air, since there's no appendices like with the Tolkien books.

i'm not exactly sure what you were wanting in terms of more or better fights, i'm guessing more extensive or elaborate hand-to-hand combate between the tributes, but i thought most of the action in the arena was pretty great, especially in IMAX. loved the last ten minutes or so, too, thought that was a strong point of the movie (and the book). great resolution to the arena conflict segueing into a major cliffhanger.

What I liked:

Katniss being traumatized by her victory in the previous games.

Donald Sutherland being cold and cunning again. Reminded me a lot of Jarred Harris' performance as James Moriarty.

Tucci and Hemsworth getting more screentime.

Some good comedy bits.

Hoffman was just as bone chilling as he was in Mission Impossible III.

The score especially the music played during the District 11 speech. I was started to choke up because of it.

The stakes being raised in the 75th Hunger Games by having better challengers.

Effie's character getting fleshed out. I also like her Lady Gaga inspired attires.

Joanna
stripping down
. It was completely random and hilarious because of that.

It was great to see Felix Leiter in this.

More violent than the last movie.

What I didn't like:

Finnick was such a *****ebag. I was hoping he was the first one to go.
but that was before I knew he had a good side to him.

Too many Tributes getting the jobber treatment.

I knew the game was rigged, but some of that BS pissed me off like
the acid-like cloud
. I was like COME ON!

Caesar saying "Ha! Ha! Ha! I love it!" too many times.

Gale getting treated like sh** like it. It really made me to see
Katniss showing her love for him then falling for Peeta instead especially near the end when she tells Peeta "I need you." and kisses him with a picture of Gale right there in her hand!

And I have mixed feelings on the ending:

Normally, I would be pissed because I didn't get what I want
which would've been Katniss winning the games again
, but it was so well done, it caught me by surprise as I never saw it coming, but then again,
the plan relied too much on probability. Had Katniss died by any of the things that was thrown at her, they would've been totally fu**ed. Reminded me too much of Casino Royale's poker game.
Can't wait for Mockingjay Part 2!

I am supposed to see this tomorrow with some friends, I have no knowledge of these books or movies at all.

Never read the books, or seen the first one. Is it advised I see the first one before I go see this one?

At least see the first movie. Then I'd recommend reading at least the first two books when you have time, as they were quite good in my opinion. The third was meh.

Yeah might have to throw the first one on Netflix.

Thank you my fellow Knight of Gotham

I think this series is similar to Harry Potter in that many of the characters that are *******s are really more than they seem.

I just got back and loved it. Only real problem for me is that Liam Hemsworth is a terrible actor.

I saw it last night and loved it. It was SO much better than the first one its crazy. Jennifer Lawrence was brilliant, Hoffman was amazing as always, Sutherland was vicious, Caflin was badass and Hutcherson wasn't a total wuss this time around. Gale is still pretty worthless though.

Just rewatched the 1st one and saw Catching Fire today. Both awesome although the end felt a bit abrupt. Can't wait to see how this ends.

Definitely see the 1st film. It's more continuous story than regular sequel.

I'm surprised you didn't mentioned the real showstoper: Jenna Marlone as Joanna.
