same guys loved john carter too and we saw all those negative review pour in

My God, this movie could almost double its budget in its domestic opening weekend. Craziness.

I can't see it happening, Alice in Wonderland holds the record for non sequels and that's at $116 million.

Anything over $70M will be fantastic and well above expectations.

I was basing that comment on the Hollywood Reporter article posted on the previous page saying it's tracking to open bigger than Breaking Dawn: Part 1 (which made $138.1 on its opening weekend). The budget for this movie is reportedly $75m after tax breaks, right? So if it makes as much as Breaking Dawn, that would be less than $12m short of doubling its budget.

Yea I assumed that's what you meant, that's what I was replying to.

I'm really glad Devin liked it. I know a lot of people on these boards don't care for him but I tend to agree with his opinions more often than not.

I want to see this because of Lawrence, but on the other hand I don't want to have to stare at Josh Hutcherson's goofy looking face.

lets bump this for this page also some more tweets

Why does every film have to appeal to men? And again twilight had no trouble making tons of cash without men. Thor appealed to men and didn't make as much as three out of four twilight movies and John Carter also appealed to men and it just bombed. Men aren't the be all when it comes to film. Anyways; I sure hope that this film is good, so far I am digging the book and I'm only 70ish pages in. It's not the greatest thing ever but it is interesting so far.
Who said every film had to appeal to men? I think its quite clear, from a box office perspective, that if you can appeal to both men and women then you have much better odds at having a box office hit because that equals more people watching your film.

Maybe if Thor and John Carter appealed a little more to women they would've made more money at the box office. Its all about targeting as much people as you can to watch your movie

The reviews are better than I had hoped for. It really could have gone either way, but it seems like we have a real gem here folks! Got my midnight tickets and I am ready!

Ah, my mistake. Well even if those tracking numbers were really far off, I think it could very likely break that AiW record you mentioned.

It's going to break the March record, and it's going to make John Carter look like even more of a failure when it doubles its worldwide take

@flickchick85
I can definitely agree with you on that, but to approach $140+ million that would certainly be impressive.

Anyone else going to the midnight shows? Or the first day shows?

I'm aiming for Friday, depending on how long my class that day is, since I also need to head home for break that day. If not then, definitely Saturday.

I really wish I hadn't promised I'd change my avatar to a flying pig if it made over $120 million opening weekend now.
Hey now, I'm sure there are some beautiful flying pig avvys out there. :woot:

I promised to do it for an entire year as well. Idiot.

those tweets mean nothing to me. i am still watching the movie for the concept and jennifer.

She's always been the main reason I've wanted to see it. That along with the vaguely similar aspects between it and Battle Royale fused with the aesthetics of THX1138.

I want to see this because I absolutely loved the book. :awesome:

Glad it's getting solid reviews. Saw the clip with Peeta's Flickerman interview. Josh really see to have captured the charm and warmth of Peeta. Me like!

And lol at someone not wanting to see a movie because they think someone has a "goofy looking" face, oh dear the shallowness...
