The Huntsman: Winter's War

Ultimately who is this movie for? Its like they wanted to do a sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman but didn't have the balls to recast Stewart so they made some sort of vague pointless prequel story in order to justify doing it without Snow White. Why not just recast Snow White if you didn't want Stewart to come back?

They were both involved in a sleazy affair and both got dumped off the sequel, I don't see a double standard.

Did you have this attitude when married Jennifer Garner started sleeping with her co-star on Alias?

Except it's not a prequel.

Did that cause a big drama? Nope, and they weren't promoting a Snow White movie as I recall, it had no image reflection in the least so it wasn't an issue. I personally have no dog in the race, my point simply is that the studio were within their rights to get rid of them both if they wanted to.

I mean for her ex-husband it probably did.

I don't think they were within their rights to fire her because of that.

from what i hear they should of kept snow white going by reviews lol

i keep hearing how terrible emily blunt is people are calling it the worst performance of her career

Not sure I'd call it the worst. It is a scene-chewing type of performance.

I don't think his feelings are a studio concern.

Yes they were, just like the sponsors that ditched Tiger Woods.

Kristen was the scape goat, especially she's more of a public figure.

Getting rid of her still didn't fix their problems. The reviews for the new film are worse, the international numbers haven't been as good so far and it's tracking to open with half of what the first opened with in North America. I know the budget was 115mil compared to the original film's 170mil but the film isn't going to exactly be a success.

Some were talking like axing Stewart was going to save the sequel and it's not going to. You need things like good scripts and directors for that.

The original's budget was $170 million?! WTF.

It's not my money but getting thrifty with a sequel is always odd to me. Why not keep the budget reasonable on the first film in a potential series? Anyway, like I said it's their money.

I like Chris but it's time to admit that he can't open a movie. It's no surprise they are putting in Hulk for the next Thor.

The studio promoted the visual effects guy from the first film to become the new director instead of going with Frank Darabont. That probably helped keep the budget down. It looks like a lot of the film was shot on sound stages too instead of locations.

To be fair only Leo Dicaprio can open virtually anything at this moment but as I've said many times before, no Hemsworth cannot even sort of, kinda, almost open a picture.

I feel like unless he scores a big or a lead role in a surefire non-Marvel hit that he is going to be playing in nothing but terrible mid to somewhat high budget CGI fests that people know are going to be terrible and make fun of months before they come out. You know like a Gerald Butler in God's of Egypt type deal.

When Frank Darabont dropped out any interest that I had died.

Nothing could save the sequel as there never should have been one imo. this is the problem these days, studios want to turn everything into a franchise when some things just work better as a one off.

True, some films should just be one offs.

Saw the movie tonight. Not bad, but not great either.

Charlize Theron isn't in the movie much, despite what the trailers would have you believe. She's in the first couple scenes in the beginning, and several big scenes in the end. While her performance in the previous film was somewhat nuanced amid all the scenery chewing, here she's mostly b***hy with a side of ham. But hey, she got paid $20 million for her glorified supporting role!

Emily Blunt was actually more nuanced compared to Charlize, although she too had some fair amount of scenery chewing. Jessica Chastain was wonderful in a fairly two-dimensional badass warrior archer role, she saved the movie for me. Chris Hemsworth... I like the guy, but outside the MCU he doesn't have much leading man charisma. Nick Frost and that dwarf chick were pretty funny though.

The VFX are a bit iffy in places, due to the budget and production (Joe Roth), but other than that, it is mighty pretty to look at. It's a disposable time waster, so for those on the fence, Redbox or cheap matinee this one.

Here's Kristen Stewart's thoughts on the film:

I read a few scripts. None of them were good. None of them were greenlight-able. And I had a meeting with Universal about the places where the story could go. Maybe Chris [Hemsworth] was more into it. I actually don’t f—ing know.

She was even asked to make a cameo, which she also declined:

The studio did reach out to ask if she would appear in a cameo as Snow White. She told them, “I might just leave that be. I was really into that, but …” she adds with a smirk. “So now I’m like … ‘Thank God.'”

I'm going to say this without being sarcastic, but good for Kristen Stewart.
