Saw the movie tonight. Not bad, but not great either.
Charlize Theron isn't in the movie much, despite what the trailers would have you believe. She's in the first couple scenes in the beginning, and several big scenes in the end. While her performance in the previous film was somewhat nuanced amid all the scenery chewing, here she's mostly b***hy with a side of ham. But hey, she got paid $20 million for her glorified supporting role!
Emily Blunt was actually more nuanced compared to Charlize, although she too had some fair amount of scenery chewing. Jessica Chastain was wonderful in a fairly two-dimensional badass warrior archer role, she saved the movie for me. Chris Hemsworth... I like the guy, but outside the MCU he doesn't have much leading man charisma. Nick Frost and that dwarf chick were pretty funny though.
The VFX are a bit iffy in places, due to the budget and production (Joe Roth), but other than that, it is mighty pretty to look at. It's a disposable time waster, so for those on the fence, Redbox or cheap matinee this one.
