The "I am SO SICK of all this talk about recasts/reboots/revamps/re-whatever!" thread

Agreed. Although about people being tired of reboots, I think they mean that now they the ones that have been successes, whenever whiney fanboys compain, they demand reboot just like that, thinking all the problems will just go away and they get their wish that they didn't get before.

^THIS is what I meant when I opened the thread, hence the title, "sick of all this talk about reboots", not reboots themselves. I'm only starting to get tired of reboots themselves, as the studios seem to now be bowing to the ridiculous demands. And why do fans think that just because someone new comes along, this automatically means they're gonna get everything that they want? NO movie has EVER delivered everything that everybody wants. Sometimes the biggest disasters in film have been the direct result of trying too hard to please too many.
I'm excited about the new possiblities and in no way do I want it to fail. I want a good SM film. A fresh start will be interesting. I'd rather have this than the potential crap that we could have had for SM4 had Raimi stayed.

Raimi's films won't ever go away. They'll still be here.

I was heartbroken too at fist but let's be honest, had Raimi compromised with the studio and made SM4 (if those script reports are correct) it would have been crap. I just want a good SM film.

Hopefully Sony will let whoever do their thing.

But the thing I odn't understand is how Sony is telling a man who brought them three highly successful SM films what to do. Especially the first two.
Here's a better question; in light of the fact that they wouldn't give creative autonomy to a man who had brought them three successful films-two of them done his way-what makes fans think the new guy is going to have any more wiggle room?

^^That's a good question Chris. Wish I had an answer.

I can't make out your avi.
Anyways, back on topic, it seems to me that if anything, Sony would be looking for someone that they can more easily push around.

You're probably right.

My avatar is Jean Grey & Cyclops fleeing Stryfe, from one of the now long forgotten 90s storylines. I know it's a bit of obscure, but that's one of the reasons why I went with it.

Ahhh. I woulda thought it was something else.

Cool.

this 80 million budget is seriously scaring me...but I hear that they are gonna hire unknowns, if I find out where they hold auditions, I'm game

the 80 mil budget gives me some concerns but the fact that they are focusing on a high school student who has to live with the knowledge that he could have prevented his Uncle's death. I dont know what it is but something about the synopsis bothers me.

I am highly skeptical at this point myself. I can't help but think we're going to end up with something that's part "Ultimized" & part "Nolan-ized".

I am thinking its gonna be Ultimate/Smallville/Twilight...nothing is mentioned of fighting crime..sounds like its gonna be an emo teen movie

yes they do but it wasnt until recently that Smallville focused on crimefighting

The $80 million budget seems very low compared to the other movies. Hell that's only $2 million more than the Daredevil budget, so I'm wondering how it will turn out. I don't know how movie budgets are spent, so I don't want to just claim it will fail based on that. But that's a shockingly low budget for such a big name like Spider-man.

I'm bothered by that plot because we've seen it on screen already, pretty well in my opinion. It's nothing new. This isn't like Batman Begins, where we were finally getting the origin and the character moments that we never got. Raimi's story got the origin and character done in the first place.

It's only $5 mil more than the first X-Men. Which was a quality film for what they spent, truth be told. But that same approach can't be taken with Spidey. Pretty much every scene in which you see Spider-Man will require at least some level of FX. He doesn't walk or run. He jumps, swings & climbs. He doesn't stand in one spot or box people toe-to-toe. This budget will likely mean less CGI (probably the single biggest expense of the Raimi films) & more live-action stuntwork, which I'm ok with. What I hope it DOESN'T mean is Con-quality costumes, low-rate FX, and/or little to no action.

That translates to wanting to go the Nolan route, where Batman fight and action scenes didn't require a massive amount of CG. Batman is not superhuman of course, but you know how some of them prefer to cut corners.

^^^ both begins and tdk i believe put toghether cost over 300 million in production budget.

I'm not sure. But a Batman film would NEVER require the level of FX that a Spidey flick would.

well if they did it based on the comics Batman swings and flips almost as much as Spider-man

Nowhere near. Not even remotely. If you'd said that about Daredevil I might've gone with it. But Batman? Not a chance. First off, I remember he once chastised Dick for using excessively "flashy" moves while impersonating him. He's not the acrobat; Dick is. He typically stands in one spot during fights, utilizing a very controlled fighting style as one might expect from a refined marital artist. Plus his style tend sto be more "smash-mouth" in order to maintain the intimidation factor. He doesn't dodge attacks as much-hell, he can't because he doesn't possess Spider-Man's hyper-agility. As for the swinging, that is Spider-Man's one and only exclusive means of transportation. Not the case for Bats.

I wasnt talking about flashy fighting moves but Batman is acrobatic...its something they have forgotten in the modern years...and while he has a car, motorcycle and a plane Batman also has been known to swing around town(no way not to make that sound suggestive)

A movie likes District 9 gives me hope that they could do nice FX on an $80 million budget. The problem is that it's damn near half the budget of the first Spider-man, and well under the second and third. Spidey does require much FX do to his nature of heroics, and you gotta realize that Spidey is so popular that he needs a big budget due to stature. There are three superheroes that you could call icons, meaning that they're instantly recognizable to anyone regardless of their knowledge of comics. Spider-man is one of them, Superman and Batman are the other two. You can't go cheap with this guy. You've gotta make it a big budget. Under no circumstances should Ghost Rider have a bigger budget than a Spider-man movie, and they're from the same damn studio!

Plus, the smaller budget seems like a step backwards. It sounds like we'll be getting less this time instead of more.

I think less the budget means less the risk, which means less studio interference. But I was surprised it was 80 million. I expected at least a hundred million.

And Chris, you pose a good question. One that I have been asking myself for a week now. Actually more than that. Why did they interfere with Raimi on SM3 when he gave them two successful films commercially and critically? How much control will they give Webb?
