The Avengers The "I Believe In Mark Ruffalo!" Support Thread

In my opinion, Ruffalo is completely right for the role (not as the Hulk, but as Bruce Banner- that distinction must be established). He is only of average height, not too tall; if my memory serves me correctly, Banner is of average height, too. Also, Mark's soft-spoken demeanor seems absolutely perfect for the "shy scientist" type he'll be portraying. I'm not sure if that's how Banner is characterized in the comics, though.

I'm just going to play the wait and see game before I pass judgement, though 2 years is a long wait.

I wonder if they'll make Ruffalo slim down? He's not a big guy, but i remember where they wanted Norton to sustain a low body fat ration for TIH, for his shirtless scenes, so they had him on a special diet....

I have to say I am very dissillusioned with Marvel at the moment for the way they are treating the Hulk character, it actually disgusts me the way they have dealt with all this and with Hulk being by far my main draw to this Avengers movie, it has effected my excitement for it a lot, to the point that I genuinly may not go and see it if any more **** goes on.

However, non of this is Ruffalo's fault and never will be, I really hope he'll do a good and am pretty sure he will. The only thing that pisses me off is its just going to ruin the continuity of it all, when I see Ruffalo as Banner, I will only think of him as a replacement for Norton, much the same way I did with Cheadle in IM2, I just couldnt get into the character as the same person, and this will really effect my enjoyment of Avengers too.

But good luck to Ruffalo, I hope he gets some good things to do isnt just there to make up the numbers.

They should stop changing actors all the time. They somehow think it makes no difference with the viewers but it does. For example, they should have changed director for the second film, yet keep the actors. Not because they were that incredible but to make sure there's a continuity there.

...then again if Bana and the group would have stayed, then you have two flops. And at the press conference at Comicon, Bana would have been unhappy to be there.

I still think the best take should have been not to make a second Hulk film right away and wait to reintroduce Hulk fresh in the Avenger movie with a new look, new actor, etc...Marvel Studios should have done Ant-Man instead of Incredible Hulk. The box office showed that fans were not ready for another Hulk movie yet as the bad feelings of the last one were still there. And it was also a revamp, a complete change that took place just a few years later. So it was strange for many people.

Yes, because people clearly want to see Ant Man and not the Hulk...

The GA won't think much of the new casting. They're not going to be in outrage like we are. They'll think it's strange, but not much more. If the trailers and the advertising does its job, they'll see the film. No Edward Norton isn't going to make much difference. My friend really liked TIH and Norton. He wasn't angry that Norton left and found out about Ruffalo. People just won't care as much.

Because that was the whole point of my post...:whatever:

Your friend my not care but a lot of people care. They accept it because they have no other choices but it doesn't mean they like it. I think changing actors all the time it disconnect fans with the character. And first impression is everything. I can't imagine what I would have felt as a kid seeing Chris Reeves replaced for Superman 2 or 3.

They should at least tweak it to make it look more like Ruffalo.
I disagree, Its fine. Plus Marvel already stated the Hulks features will not be based on any actors face again after Hulk 1 with Bana. TIH was not based on Norton's face.

Batman and Bond? People have handled it fine. People have their preferences and opinions, but it never stopped them from seeing their new films because they changed actors. Batman Forever made more than Batman Returns. It didn't make less because there was a new actor playing Batman. I can understand continuity and all, but the GA just doesn't care about every single detail like we do. In comparison. They'll see it if it looks good. They won't choose to see it because a specific actor didn't come back in a film from four years before. They want to see Hulk vs Iron Man or whatever catches their eye in a trailer. It might seem off to them at first, but not to the extent where they feel disconnected.

Having said that i must say i was pretty disappointed with Norton's performance. He's one of my favourite actors and i know he could of done better.

Exactly, He walked through that movie & I'm glad he's not coming back.

And I would'nt even compare it to Batman and Bond because its not like we're losing the CGI Hulk or Ferrigno's voice.

I know right? Norton was great but people here are acting like he cured cancer or something and the cure can never be replicated.

Feige has said that Ruffalo's Banner is gonna be like the Ultimates characterisation.
Where did you hear that. If true i guess they are blaming the Hulks failure on the fact it wasn't the Ultimates version. :cmad:

Instead maybe they just had the wrong Directers.

Is Hulk now under Marvel Studios?

I'm one of the few that think Norton was incredibly plain and boring in TIH. I'm all for Mark Ruffalo. Still, as for an Avengers movie, I just don't think it'll work.
Your not alone. I've been saying it for years & getting slammed by Norton fans.

Hulk has been under marvel studios for a while now. Since marvel studios got started.
That why we have TIH, and that's why he'll be in avengers.

As for directors, I want niell blomkamp for TIH2. :D

I'm sad to see Norton go. He was my first pick to play Banner in Ang Lee's HULK and I was SUPER pumped to see him get a shot at TIH. The guy has played duality sooooo well in movies like Fight Club, Primal Fear and the Score.

That being said.... I welcome Mark Ruffalo with open arms. I think he'll do the job justice. He's a great actor who can play both sensative and likeable. He's smaller than the rest of the cast (while Norton was taller than most) and while I don't like them messing with continuity... I think of it like a comic. The Hulk has been drawn by thousands of artists over the years and none have done him the same... so what is the difference here? Instead of an artists take on the character, we're getting an actor's take on the character. And by setting precedent now, Marvel can prevent themselves from being married to actors for the role once they get too old or too fat or too greedy... they just replace them... AND NOT REBOOT.

I loved Norton as Banner, and if I had a choice, he would be the one reprising it. But one thing that Ruffalo has that Norton doesn't is a true geeky sort of look. I mean, seeing him in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, I think with some messy hair, Ruffalo will fit the part very well.

I hate recasts. Now the question is will they completely disregard Norton's Hulk or want everyone to accept Banner suddenly looks like Mark Ruffalo instead of Ed Norton.
