The Avengers The "I Believe In Mark Ruffalo!" Support Thread

He'll have to go on the run, stay calm, maybe get a job bottling soda in Brazil for a while...

Yeah and here's hoping no one makes him......hungry.

Hint: Why no one superhero could do it alone. This is why they assemble.

For those who are very familiar with the Avengers comics, just out of curiosity, is the Hulk considered a official member of the Avengers team? Or is he somewhat like an unofficial ally for the team at times while being a menace whenever he's unable to control himself?

He was a founding member of the Avengers in the first issue (Iron-Man, Thor, Ant-Man & Wasp were the others) but didn't last long at all...Only one more issue in fact before he got p#ssed off with them and left. In fact, he fought the Avengers in #3, which in turn led to the Avengers finding Captain America in #4.

That's right.

And I thought I'd chime in despite this being the 21st page. I feel exactly how the OP and so many other do...would have preferred to keep Norton, but won't hold it against Ruffalo.

As an insanely intense Hulk fan, I'm looking forward to a great HULK in this movie.

I've liked Ruffalo ever since Collateral.

I saw that latest interview with Ruffalo, hinting that the Hulk maybe the villain in the Avengers move. Wow big surprise Marvel if this is true, that idea of Hulk fighting the Avengers is so old and stale now, they need to have a new interesting storyline that forces all of the Avengers to team up together and face a threat that no one hero can handle. Im so tired of seeing post and the same ideas from people of Loki controlling the Hulk, the Hulk fighting the Avengers. Mavel really needs to take notes on how the Hulk character is being handled in the Avengers cartoon - its great how they are using him in that series. Marvel please don't have the Hulk fighting the Avengers in the movie. The whole premise of the Incredible Hulk movie was to portray him as a hero.

I see nothing wrong with adapting canon. When TDK came out, did we hear "What? Batman vs. the Joker...again?!!!:whatever:"?

The Hulk fighting the Avengers as a result of Loki's shenanigans has never been done outside of the books. Not even in cartoons as far as I know?.

So how is that 'stale'?

Seriously, something like the Avengers has never been attempted in live action before, and using an idea from canon for their origins is a good thing imo. Hell, the fans usually moan when they don't use something from the books and come up with their own thing, now there's a complaint that they are?

And it's not like the Hulk would remain the bad buy if they followed the story; The Avengers will realise they have been duped and they all (including the Hulk) hand Loki his ass.

Noted.

Errr....the same Avengers cartoon that featured the Hulk fighting the Avengers?

Lol, I said Avengers. That was Thor on his own (he fought him in the 90's animation as well iirc) :cwink:
Also a different set-up there as Loki had taken complete control over the Hulk (he magically separated Banner from him). The original Avengers set-up was that he tricked them into fighting each other.

Sorry, I posted the link from the perspective of Loki controlling the hulk.

Yeah, he only fights one Avenger in that.

Nice pic Chewy. It just reminded me of the New Avengers first story arc where they're back from the savage land and Iron Man and Captain America are argueing about having Wolverine on the team. I think it was Cap again against having him because he was a killer.

It proves that Logan is not cut out for a team full time.

I just realized what he is the best at doing. Being at multiple places at once.

Noted.

It was one episode and he fought them for like what.. 8mins? The premise of the Avengers cartoon is that he is part of the team, he is being featued as a HERO. In the Avengers movie, if he is the villain, the plot of the movie is the he is not being featured as a HERO, he will be The Villain of the movie. As far as Batman vs Joker, the Joker is batman main nemisis, books, novels cartoons, etc. Ofcourse he is going to fight the Joker in a movie. Hulk is not the Avengers primary villain or even one of there villains. They could fight, the Masters of Evil, Kang, Ultron, heck bring on Thanos. The list goes on and on, they have plenty of villains to choose from instead of making The Hulk a villain. The plot is just to predictable to me I guess.

Dude's been portrayed as a hero in the comics since the 60's despite throwing down with virtually everyone at some point. If he's being manipulated by Loki, that doesn't automatically make him a villain. Even if he fights them in the first half of the movie, it doesn't mean he won't be on their side later.

The problem for me about the Hulk being the big threat of the film is that a) he's a dupe and the main villain isn't as threatening without him b) what happens once he works things out and (ideally) becomes an Avenger? That would make Loki (if it's him) even less threatening and if they bypassed that by having Hulk incopacitated after battling the Avengers then it robs of us Hulk as an Avenger.

I'm not saying Hulk couldn't be a problem for the Avengers in the first film, but maybe just restrict that conflict to the first half and have Loki have some back up or a plan b in the other half. Though I'm not too sure that would work all that great either.

You do know how the Loki/Hulk/Avengers deal went down in their very first issue, right?
Hulk was not the villain, but the other heroes were tricked into thinking he was, and that's why they fought. When Loki's hand in the matter was revealed they all turned on Loki and Hulk became one of the founding Avengers.

Why are you assuming they are ignoring all that and just making the Hulk the bad guy now? If anything, Ruffalo's "He may or may not be" suggests they are gonna follow that kind of plot.

At this time we are all just guessing but assuming Loki is gonna be the big bad behind it all I think the smart move would be for him to have already anticipated the Hulk's acceptance into the Avengers after an earlier battle with them and for that to be all part of his grand plan. The reasoning for it all, how everything fits into place etc, revealed near the end when he really turns the screws on them. Loki is a schemer after all with more than enough saavy to be thinking several moves ahead.
