The Avengers The "I Believe In Mark Ruffalo!" Support Thread

Yeah, based on Ruffalo's description he'll probably be on set with the rest of the actors in a mo-cap suit. As will RDJ based on how they filmed IM2.

If they are using the Avatar tech then Ruffalo can't do performance capture on set. He'll need to be in a separate location for the performance capture and on set they will probably use sticks with tennis balls or a model of Hulk's head on a stick as reference for the other actors.

I've always had a problem with this stance. In comics, the artists have interpreted the Hulk pretty much anyway imaginable. But to me, there's still a balance that should be struck. The great Sal Buscema managed to make the Hulk a bestial, gorilla-like monstrosity (which is how he should appear) but at the same time kept a slight resemblance to Banner. It's not as if the Hulk has a whole different skeleton & skull structure that just emerges from nowhere, it is still very much Banner, and I think in live action it helps with the realism.

By far, Ang's Hulk was better integrated into his environment than the last movie. Overall, TIH had a better color, and for some people, a better design, but clearly, Ang's Hulk looked to be in the scene, and emotionally, looked more realistic. I think a lot of that has to do with his resemblance to Bana. On top of that, TIH face was much more human looking than Ang's Hulk was anyway, TIH version was just far more angry and snarling all the time. Anytime he's calm, like when he's in the cave with Betty, he looks like a regular human much more than the previous incarnation.

The issue with the '03 film was inconsistency. There were shots were he looked terrible, then there's shots like when he turns to see Betty coming down the steps after his San Francisco rampage, where it was complete perfection. Yes, make the Hulk look like the animal he is, but leave a hint of Ruffalo in there. It won't do anything but help IMO

Another issue (at least for me) with the 03 Hulk was his body type. TIH body type was more powerful. Perfectly cut, as Louis Leterrier said "0 gram of fat". I hugely preferred that look to 03's version. Also I did like the pure rage emulating from his face in TIH, I hope they keep and/or enhance that in Avengers.

I have no problem with him looking a little Ruffalo, but I think they should use the TIH version as a foundation and even take notes from what was done right in the 03 version. This is the third crack at Hulk I think they'll get it right this time or at least perfect it more.

I just hope if Ruffalo is received well enough that they would start looking more into TIH 2

I don’t need banner to look like the Hulk. Its never been that way. The Hulk needs to look like the Hulk not each new actor playing him.

Sure it has:

It just depends on which artist you grew up with, and who your partial to. The Hulk is a transformation, a mutation, but it's still Banner underneath, it's still his skull, still his skeleton, and for live action, I believe a slight resemblance to Banner helps with the realism.

Even the '03 teaser poster looked more realistic than most of the movie itself, because it appeared to be a mutated Eric Bana, but with an artist rendering that enabled it to look better than most of the inconsistent cgi work in the film. And to be honest this:

Isn't so far from this:

No offense to Mark of course :cwink:, but I can see him being rendered to something similar, and being able to get away with his facial features being slightly incorporated

Just keep the Hulk the same I say. TIH looked way better than Lee's Hulk.

Ruffalo looks kind of like that first concept picture we saw.

I think both movies had their plusses and minuses to Hulk's look, for me the ideal would be somewhere in the middle.

One thing I think we can all agree on is that we don't need to see Banner nude for the third time. :barf:

I can just imagine Ruffalo getting all self-conscious about his appearance after reading all of these Mark-Hulk comparisons in this thread. lol

God, poor Mark, we're all comparing his looks to Hulk.

The fact of the matter is, Banner and Hulk are the same person. Personality wise, they are two separate entities, but their bodies are basically one and the same.

I just want a standard look for the Hulk. That was ironed out last movie so I thought thats what Kevin Fiege said. But apparently its up to the directors or in this case the actor. Seems like they push for more creative control each new movie & they get it when they are needed bad enough.

I'm far less concerned with how he looks(I disliked the look in AngHulk but by TIH I was satisfied for the most part with the design) than I am with how he ACTS.

I'm ok with TIH design, just think the CG needs to be improved.

I want a talking Hulk. Makes him less of a monster. I'm sure they will continue to tweek the CGI.

As funny as that is Whiskey, you know that eventually some deluded ****wit will actually say something like that on here and be deadly serious.

''Ruffallo's got no dedication - I mean, he hasnt even willingly subjected himself to radiation poisioning in preparation for the role - what's up with that????!!!!!"

EDIT: YET.....ANOTHER.....DP :cmad:

God, anyone as sick and tired of the **** Hype server as I am?

Talk about lack of commitment and not caring about the spirit of the character. Norton would have gone that extra mile. :cmad:

Ah interwebs, you never fail to amuse.

Says he's lost 15 pounds for the role so far. Respect.

Glad to hear it. When Ruffalo was first announced, and I first saw what he looked like, he definitely didn't give me a nerdy scientist vibe. I think losing some weight will definitely improve that.

According to his twitter, he says he starts shooting his scenes in may. (Not sure if we knew that or not?)
