The Avengers The "I Believe In Mark Ruffalo!" Support Thread

We did. They start next month and I guess he starts filming in May.

It's a shame, originally, they were going to start shooting last month.

Glad to hear it. When Ruffalo was first announced, and I first saw what he looked like, he definitely didn't give me a nerdy scientist vibe. I think losing some weight will definitely improve that.
Banner's not like Captain America, where there is a certain amount of deference to his appearance. Banner is definitely puny, as in he doesn't need to be joining the Mr. Universe competition, but he could probably be just of average build. His brown hair is about his only unchanging feature. To be completely fair to him, Edward Norton never really played a nerdy scientist before to my knowledge, and American History X and Fight Club aren't really that much like Banner (you could draw some parrallels from Fight Club, but he didn't act like Banner IMO). I've seen Ruffalo play a pretty convincing doctor in Shutter Island, and while that's not Banner's profession I think he showed he could play someone intelligent.

If this guy:

and that guy are the same guy, I have no doubt in the world of acting Ruffalo can play Banner as effectively as he played a cop in Collateral

I'm surprised that no one has posted this interesting tidbit from the front page yet:

The short presentation also included a little bit with Mark Ruffalo talking about the Hulk and how he's definitely going to be a hero in this movie rather than being the catalyst that brings the group together as was the case in the early comics, although as we seen in the comics too many times, you can't put these many egos together without a few fights happening along the way.

Any thoughts about Hulk's role in this film?

Personally, i'm glad that Hulk won't be used as the catalyst for the avengers assembling and that he'll be used as a hero more than menace in this film since he was mainly on the run from TIH.

Speaking of which, I'm just hoping that with them having used footage from TIH in one of the Thor trailers, that it still means that they plan on counting the events of TIH as continuity.

Idk why, but I've been worried at times that they would dismiss those events altogether due to Hulk not being mentioned as much as the main three.

Well, TIH is still a $150M film and they still make money off it every time they sell a DVD or BRD.

What Chewy said, plus Hulk footage was in the IM2 movie and RDJ/Stark was in the Hulk movie.

I don't see why TIH isn't going to be in continuity with the MCU just because Norton got replaced.

Happy to hear that Hulk will be a hero in this film.

True, but if people check the Blue Ray SHIELD vault feature for IM2, you'll see that they still have ED Norton listed as Bruce Banner, so I'm assuming that when they had filmed IM2 that they were still under the assumption that Ed Norton would reprise his role.

The ONLY reasons why I'm kind of unsure as to how much of TIH's events would be included as continuity is because of how we haven't heard as much about Hulk's importance to the group, let alone people bringing up TIH film as much when talking about the Marvel Cinematic universe and the films leading up to the Avengers as of late.

This is why I keep thinking that TIH should have been released AFTER IM2.

But in any case, as long as Mark being Banner and the look for Hulk being different are the only things different and that they reference something from those events, then I'll be sure about it.

i think ruffalo has a tought job ahead of him.
he as to make the hulk the best in the avengers
he has to act his poor heart out. i want the audience walking out and saying "omg the green one was so cool, why doesn't he have his own movie?"

give us the hulk that speaks
i think thats where all these movies go wrong.
they limit the hulk to a plot device rather than a character.

let him comment about whats going around him

i can see the hulk giving most of the comic relief in avengers(but he wont know he's being funny)

calling iron man a robot
calling captain america flag man
calling thor hammer man

hawkeye tries shooting hulk with arrows and hulk just laughs.

i think banner also needs to out science stark in a scene to show his skills.
i think with a proper hulk in avengers they can turn this whole thing around.
i loved TIH btw

ferringo is still doing the voice right? or are they gonna just digitally alter ruffalo.

Overall, I have alot of faith in Mark Ruffalo. I'd be lieing if I said I didn't wish Edward Norton was back. However, as I said, I do have faith.

Bingo! That is w/o a doubt the single biggest problem the character has faced in over 30 years of comics-to-film adaptions. And it's just so ****ing obvious. But the suits still haven't learned. Hopefully on the Avengers things'll begin to change.

Like I've been saying, I think Whedon is aware of all of this. He is a comic book fan and a filmmaker. I'm sure he will bring a proper balance.

They may play Hulk as more of the strong silent type. He can speak, but doesn't always feel like conversing unless something is just bugging him.

Hulk's only line in the movie: "Hulk think that modern marketing for the ideal of the American dream corrupt and flawed. Many human pursue life of dream and die chasing myths".

Nick Fury: "...Right...".

He should just say, "Hulk only pawn...in game of life."

This is gonna be an interesting one. Kinda bugs me they seem to be deviating from TIH's design more than expected though, loved that one.

I don't see the problem with that. Most full-grown men have chest hair. And Bruce Banner is not a supermodel. So unless he's all about vanity, I don't see why he'd shave his chest.

I really want to see Ruffalo's Hulk.

The true enemy of this film will be Hulk's chest hair.
