The "I hated Spider-Man 3" Thread!

I thought it was horrible. There's some decent stuff, but its buried in the dumb Peter/Harry/MJ drama that drags on and on.

A lot of the gags (JJJ's pills, Peter strutting around, the dance number, MJ singing, etc) are self-indulgent and could have been cut down. I felt like I was watching a director's cut, a bad director's cut at that.

How did Vemon know that Sandman was stealing money for his daughter? Why did Sandman go along with the plot to team up against Spiderman? Everything that played out in the movie shows he is not a murderer. Why didn't Harry's man servant intervene along time ago if he knew about the Goblin stuff?

Meh. One of the worst comic movies I've ever seen.

damn, I just got home from watching this. It's a little late and i was quite drunk but i gotta say I was dissapointed. There was just way too much characters and too much going on. they should've saved Venom for SM4.

After thinking it over last night.....I wanted to calm down a little before posting just MHO on SM3......but SM3 can be described in one word.....dissapointment.....

I was a large supporter of this movie from the beginning, as many of you know, but I can not in good conscience claim this is a great movie, let alone a good movie......it is a movie......worth watching to find out how it ends, but not much more then that.....

I waited, just as everyone did, for this movie for three years.....I also spent countless hours finding the first leaked information and locating any pictures of the set that I could find.....I was so looking forward to this movie that I stayed away from here for the past 4 months so that I wouldn't get spoiled too much......I still remember watching SM2 and being so involved in the movie....I was completely oblivious of everything around me......I walked out of that movie and I was so thrilled by it I came directly here and created my first account and posted how happy I was of the film and how I looked forward to the third movie.....

Sadly I pulled my watch out after only an hour into the movie.....I kept shaking my head, cover my eyes, cringing, squirming, and chuckling at some of the idioticies.....I felt like throwing popcorn at the movie, of course I didn't, but I wanted to.....

So here is my "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" of the movie from my perspective.....of course this is my opinion only....

The good
CGI (well you can tell where the money went....or can you)

Action scenes (there was a lot but at times it felt rushed and incomplete, and end suddenly)

Humour - this goes somewhere between good and bad but I put it in good since there wasn't much (some scenes were relativiely funny, but others were really awkward)

The bad
Score (disjointed from the movie, unoriginal - worst part was when he gets the suit for the first time and he is hanging upside down.....it didn't connect at all with the feelings and emotions of the movie)

Character development (or should I say undevelopment)

Movie length - (was over two hours long and felt like one of the longest movies I have seen in a long while....I got to a point where I just wanted the movie to end)

Villains - all three of them weren't half as good as Doc Ock, I felt no compassion for Sandman, no connection to Venom, and Harry was all over the place and showed none of the shine that displayed during his previous movies......

The ugly
Dialogue - cheesy, cringe worthy, and full of one liners.....what did those two kids say near the end during the battle royale...."That's Awesome! Radical!"....I think that's what they said....I couldn't tell because I was too busy mind-choking Raimi.....It's a SM movie not a TMNT movie....I thought someone was going to come in with a skateboardand and say Cowabunga.....

Plot - rushed, did not flow properly, drawn out - it's actually amazing how it can be described as rushed and drawn out in the same sentence but it was....it did not connect, it just quickly went from one scene to the next....

Love storyline - Harry/MJ/Peter (including his ridiculous swinger montage, the Brant scene was just obscure) - hey I still love the Raindrops keep falling on my head scene from SM2

Peter and Peter's alter ego - so Peter's idea about being bad is ordering chocolate cake girl to get him more cookies, dancing in public, trying to be a creepy swinger, acting like he doesn't care about anyone or anything, and basically acting more like a jackass then a bad ass....

This is only my opinion so take it with a grain of salt.....others apparently liked it....I just didn't.....

EDIT: I want it to be clear that I had no problems with the costume changes and changes in characters as long as it was going to be good.....I came into this movie with an open mind......

I hated it as well. It felt rushed, the symbiote was treated as a joke, Harry got shafted for some lameass villain like Sandman, and Sam Raimi ass-raped Venom infront of our eyes.

Venom to me was the best part of this movie, though I wish they could have showned venom chasing spiderman. You know swinging from building, to building. I think that would have shown how similar and more superior venom is to spiderman.

One would think they'd do SOMETHING with him.

Sam Raimi should stick to making movies for Grindhouse after his ghey rape of one of the coolest comic book heros and stories of all time.

I hope he chokes on his big fat paycheck. :cmad:

James Cameron assume your role as Spider-Man 4 director as it was meant to be and make this movie as dark and serious as you can.

James Cameron will be to Spiderman what Chris Nolan is to Batman.

I've been a fan for over 30 years and I loved the first 2 films.

I don't just hate what Raimi did in this film; I almost hate myself for sitting through it.

What the heck is going on with these comic book movies lately? I haven't seen Spider-man 3 yet but, based on everything I've heard I will be disappointed. Batman Begins was the last comic book movie I enjoyed. In the past 3 years BB, Spider-man 2, and X2 were the only comic book movies that I liked. Unfortunately, those great films were surrounded the following comic book bastardizations:

Ghostrider, Catwoman, Superman Returns(it was okay I guess), Constantine, Fantastic Four, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Blade Trinity, Daredevil, Elektra, and X3.

I'm convinced FF2 will suck due to the spiderman 3 reviews and I've basically lost all faith in Marvel comic book movies.:cmad:

YOU MUST EXPERIENCE IT!!!!!

There is so much fodder and embarrassment I don't even know where to start. It's pretty bad.

WARNING: It will remind you of Brett Ratner though.

Things I didn't like..........

Peter walking down the street pointing at the girls. I mean, I laughed, but was like, this is too stupid.

When he flipped his hair down, that was so retarted. So he flips his hair down and now he is a badass? Whatever. Lame.

During the battle royale, the stupid reporters kept butting in between the action. You are all into the fighting and then, ok, let's cut to the reporters for a report. Dumb.

Some of the CGI was not good. Particularly in the first encounter between Peter and Harry. Their heads and faces looked terrible during that scene.

Venom looked great! But obviously, was not in the movie enough.

Sandman at the end saying, yeah, I didn't mean to kill him and Peter forgiving him. Come on, give me a break.

I still liked the movie, but was disappointed because it could have been so much more better.

For a movie called Spider-man, there wasn't much of him. They should have called it "Peter Parker's Love Life."

I actually did like Sandman's character and what Thomas Hayden Church brought to it. But it was just underwritten in the second half.

Anybody who says this movie sucks is most likely a childish idiot.

I'm more confused by the Batman and Robin comparisions - there is no way this film is *that* bad. None. I can understand being disappointed but to say 'OMG, it's the new B&R' seems to be the default setting for fanboys whenever a film falls below their expectations. :/

Having said that, I see nothing wrong with venting about said disappointment. :hyper:

I really wanted to like this movie.... I even waited in a damn long line.... And maybe because i expected more, i was REALLY dissapointed.

First off, i was a bit confused on Sandman's whole plot.... He just wandered into some testing area and became sand, and right off the bat knew how to use his powers...???? Ironic. Next, a meteor flies from space and eventually makes his way onto Peter. Where the hell did the meteor come from?, Again as someone mentioned before, why couldn't they use Jameson''s son???

Anyway, Sandman has no real motivation, (his daughter just wasn't too realistic to me) Venom is pretty much tossed in and pulled out, Gwen could've been ANY other girl.

On the light side, Harry's motivation was pretty damn good, and while the majority of his story makes sense, Why the hell did Harry make MJ break up with Peter?.... I thought he could've done alot more damage to Peter, in some other way. And finally i seriously swear i didn't hear "We've all done terrible things to each other, but we have to learn to forgive each other, or else everything we ever were would mean nothing"!!! maybe i missed it but i didn't hear it. And that was a damn good line.

Ultimately, the movie had some pretty crazy scenes, (Sandman looked pretty fake in some, parts, but hey, he's a man made out of sand) and the plot seemed pretty unconstructed, (especially lack of character motivation) so while this movie wasn't that bad, it was a bad Spider-man flick, worst of the three, and hopefully when part four comes around we can expect better villians, actual characters, (that aren't just fillers) and some real Spider-Man action.

You're right, B&R is in a league of it's own. But this movie was very disappointing, especially since I love the first two so much. There are so many WTF moments. The movie just doesn't flow smoothly. It was just overall messy. Shocking that the same person who did SM1 and SM2 made this as well.

Damn, this thread is scaring me - I'm going to see it in a few hours with lower expectations. There's no way it can be as bad as the other Marvel adaptations like X3, Blade Trinity, Punisher, Fantastic Four, and most recently, that joke of a film Ghost Rider.

Please tell me it's just fans overreacting to ridiculous high expectations because the first two films were so good.

Chris Nolan better take notice how Sam Raimi went from being a Comic God to being buried 6 feet under in a day....

I understand everyones gripes with the film, but as i keep posting, what were you all expecting?

For me personally this film has plenty of replay value, whereas SM2 bores me crapless these days. Obviously different strokes for different folks, but I dont understand where and when SM2 becamse the be all and end all. I find this one far superior in every area. Ah well.

I liked it. But is is full of flaws.

I think SM3 is better than all those movies you listed, but you may find yourself with a few 'WTF' moments after you see it. I don't believe it to be the worst cinematic abomination ever, but I was very disappointed with this effort; partly because of how good the first two films were, partly because there were just obvious flaws in it.

Sounds like SM3 is one of those films that has plently of flaws, but is entertaining anyway, which makes repeat viewings better since it has more action in it.....

true but im used to things being slow and acting retarted,I am canadian after all.:woot:

:whatever: And I wondered why the jokes about Canadians being slow persist. Thanks for upholding the stereotype.
