The "I loved Spider-Man 3" Thread!

In judging this movie alone, on its own merits, I'm was trying to decide if carry over character development from the first two films was influencing me. Then I realized, what does that matter? If you ran all three films together in to one long seven hour movie, you'd have the greatest epic adventure ever made.

Still, SM3 itself was fleshed out and advanced where it matters. The three leads are fully developed and perfectly advanced. The supporting characters are wonderfully utilized, some given more to do. The villains were slighted but it all works. You understand the motivation behind both villain's actions. That's all that matters to the story. Overall, I enjoyed every minute of this movie.

What’s really remarkable is that Raimi manages to play both sides of the fence. He offers tremendous wild action for those not smart enough to follow the intricate character motivation and development that’s been unfolding for three films. He also allows the viewer to pick up the little nuances and enjoy this movie on another level. Knowing that you can’t please everybody, Raimi made the film on his advanced level. If you can follow along and appreciate the movie on his level then, great. If not, tough luck. Just enjoy the action and leave the complexities to people who aren’t interested in nitpicking the flaws that appear only in their own mind. For the rest of us, this movie is a real treat. Thumbs Up!

Define "high quality."

Because I'm having a hard time finding movies with more quality than SM3.
Well, first off a high quality movie should have a good script, something Spider-Man 3 was lacking. With all it's cope outs, coincidences, cringe-worthy dialogue, and absurd dance scenes, I wouldn't consider SM3 high quality.

I thought SM3 was a major disappointment for me when I saw it at the midnight showing. But, I just got home from my second viewing...loved it. The dance sequence isn't as bad, nor as long, as I remembered it. Sandman was portrayed beautifully, despite his seemingly rushed departure. Venom was great too and served his purpose. Also, all the parts that I thought had made me cringe, actually turned out to be my favorite parts of the film.

Kudos to Raimi and crew!

I have to disagree without turning this in to a Michigan civil war type thing. :cwink:

The dance scenes are nothing short of brilliant. Peter's spiteful dance with Gwen was one of the better scenes in the film. The dialogue is perfect and certainly kept in line with the first two films. I can't think of one real cop out but I have to agree about the coincidences. A few contrived moments keep me from rating SM3 the perfect 10/10. Still, the Spider-Man comic itself is filled with extreme coincidences throughout the years. From Doc Ock almost marrying Aunt May, the Osborns, the Molten Man, etc. Personally, I define SM3 as very high quality.

I like your latest batch of posts, man. We're definitely on the same page about this movie.

That's quite a turnaround...what was it that changed? Perhaps the audience played a role?

^ I believe it does, you'd be surprised the idiots i saw it with.

I still loved the movie but i after the large group i went with I couldn't help it feel some where disliking the movie just to jump on the bandwagon.

I mean seriously if you dislike it you should have a reason to back it up. (that was directed to a couple of my "friends". :D )

Disagreed. Sorry, but I just hated the dance scene.
The dialogue is perfect and certainly kept in line with the first two films. I can't think of one real cop out but I have to agree about the coincidences.
80% of the time the dialogue was on par with the first two films imo. But the other 20% of the lines uttered I cringed at. The jazz club scene contains a chunk of it.
Still, the Spider-Man comic itself is filled with extreme coincidences throughout the years.
True, but many of the coincidences in the film aren't found in the comic-book and when they are used in the movie they should be made to be less noticeable. In this one, the added coincidences were just too obvious imo.

Alright, I'm done with the multiple-quote battle. I agree with you that SM3 wasn't exactly a low quality movie, it just wasn't the high quality movie it should have been imo.

Personally, I think that Pete walking down the street and checking chicks and getting nice new clothes was fine (including the strut and little move he did when he came out of the store).

Also, the jazz club scene served a great purpose, i just wish the creators would have taken it more seriously. They tried to take the dancing scene funny. In fact, they made alot of the stuff that, i thought should be more serious, funny.

I think the people who are disappointed are disappointed because from the trailers we thought it would be alot darker and serious, but they didn't end up taking it all that seriously.

To re-phrase Matt Murdock from Daredevil:

What is your problem with this movie? It was a good, honorable movie, decent film. What's your idea of better? Define "better". Huh? What would be a "better" movie?

Sorry, had to vent...too much bashing in other threads...

I liked it alot. I thought it was interesting how all of the storylines interweaved and intertwined together like one giant web. However, I will say it got a bit too melodramatic and WB-ish for my tastes and I also did not understand the dance sequences nor why the battyle royale was suddenly rushed, but all in all it had the right amount of action, story, heart, romance, comedy, etc.

Too bad though that some characters got sidelined and the other problems I mentioned above. All in all 3 out of 4 for me.

you just described my SM3 experience with the exception of I liked the dance on first viewing. the only thing that STILL made me cringe on second viewing was the bristish reporter and 'wicked cool' kids.
two nitpicks in a 2 1/2 hour long movie.

I love this movie and I'm going to see it at least another three times at the movies.

Good "dialogue "makes you cringe ?

I thought the script was great the the "dialogue" was great. The only problems I saw as far as the script goes was underdevelopment on one character only. To be honest it wasn't perfect there were a few problems with the movie. The script wasn't good it was better than good it was great. I can't possibly understand having a problem with the great "dialogue".

I liked the dancing in the jazz club ish. I only hated one dance thing and it was the ******ed "im a mean guy now and mean guys dance on the street and act all cheesy."

To me, that's exactly what a nerd unleashed would act like. He knows little about women, relationships and, even though he's Spider-Man, grew up with no confidence and limited self esteem. It would've been wrong to portray him in any other way. It works both ways. It's funny but it also rings true. Watch the faces on the women around him as he struts, it's hilarious.

People have been nitpicking the Spiderman franchise for years....when the first movie came out everyone was bashing it cause of the organic web shooters....and then in the second one...people were bashing it cause there was less action and more drama...and Doc Ock was more misunderstood than evil......so no matter what...people will complain. For me.....I do agree all the movies aren't perfect...but they're all really fun movies. That's why they're released in the summer. Spiderman movies are summer popcorn movies....and that's what you should go in expecting. I loved it..and I thought part 3 was the most fun of the films

I actually felt bad for Sandman when He was trying to form for the first time in that pit... very touching scene.

^ i agree, especially when he fell and when he was trying to pick up the necklace

Y'know... honestly despite having been cut down and being an annoying rushed film, it probably was the most fun out of all them thus far.

Spider-Man 3 was my favorite. Everything I wanted to see in Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2, I finally saw in Spider-Man 3.

ROFL... RINGS TRUE?!?

That was the greatest line ever. It was slightly funny but nothing about that scene rang true.
