Homecoming The Inevitable Video Game Thread

It would be sweet to get an arkham style game with missions and the open world play.

Why does beenox continue to be allowed to make mediocre games?:/

It's hardly Beenox's fault. When your hands are tied, your timeline restricted and your budget cut, thanks to Activision, a good game you will not make. I do think Beenox is a good developer despite a few of their bad creative choices however Activision is a soul sucker--unless it's CoD, they don't care enough to invest the proper resources into making a great video game.

The sooner Activision gets away from Spider-Man the better.

If a game truly is on the way, it won't be developed by Beenox.
No way I'd believe that after the news of budget cuts from their last game.

Well if there rights are done. Who is likely to get rights.

They should get Rocksteady to make a new Spider-Man game. Not likely but that would be amazing. At least they should give it to some talented team and give it a lot development time. The main thing that a Spider-Man game needs is open-world. If that is not in the game I'm not buying.

Had you asked me a couple weeks ago, this would be a "hell yes" for me. After Arkham Knight though, I'd want to see Rocksteady make another game before they'd get their hands on a Spider-Man license, just to see that Rocksteady isn't out of steam and creative ideas. Because Arkham Knight seriously got me to feel that their minds weren't on the "exciting and fun" side with that game's main- and side missions and overall gameplay. Some characters really getting the shaft as well. It's too bad how their trilogy ended on such a "meh" note.

I still say Platinum would be great if it wasn't for how they've never really created a free roam game.

Actually Beenox loses the license in 2017 and there are no console games being developed for Marvel movies anymore.

We're most likely only going to get mobile game like all the other MCU movies.

I'd be happy if it was naughty dog or insomniac

Insomniac could be interesting but they're not among the best devs out there in my opinion.

Naughty Dog are some of the best devs, but they have talked about how more linear games are preferred by them. I also don't think they'd be interested in a license super hero game.

Maybe Rocksteady just got bored with Batman :sly:

I haven't played AK yet as I won't have a PS4 until this coming holiday season but...I've heard it's not as great as AC.

I agree that ND probably wouldn't do a licensed game. They seem to enjoy their freedom too much and why not, they do a heck of a job doing what they do.

If I got to pick a developer for a Spidey game, I'd go with Sucker Punch. Not sure how well they know Spider-Man as a character and his history, but they have done very well with action/free roam.

Yeah I didn't think ND would ever wanna do it, more like a pipedream kinda thing. Especially since it's a sony CE subsidiary (although I guess that doesn't really matter).

As for insomniac, their Sunset Overdrive style could lend to a fun comic-y spidey game I think.

Sure the other marvel characters dont have console games. But since spidey merch out sells all others. I am sure marvel will have someone do full spidey games. Be it a tie in game or a SD EOT type game.

I'm still interested in seeing what Avalanche Studios might do if they had the rights.

I came in here to post this because last time I checked, nobody had suggested them, which I thought was crazy!

If any of you have ever played or seen any Just Cause, you know there's not only a lot of action, but a lot of aerial moments and tethering which closely resembles web shooting.

Watch a trailer of Just Cause 2 and you'll recognize it right away. They're the perfect studio to make a Spider-Man game.

And it's possible too. From what I heard, they said they were doing a game based on a movie series, which turned out to be Mad Max, and also a comic book game. I wonder what comic book character that could be...

Yeah, I think that might be the case. Or they simply tried too hard to be different from Arkham City by the heavy use of Bat tank gameplay, and everything else became peripheral. I mean, it's a good game no doubt, but in my opinion highly disappointing after two of the best games ever in my eyes.

Great to hear that you will get a PS4! :D I can highly recommend The Last of Us!

About Sucker Punch, I know a game director or someone of that team mentioned Spider-Man as a character he'd like to create a game for. I doubt Spider-Man would become a first party game though. Also, while Sucker Punch sure can create exciting stories, I still feel there is something lacking in their games. In my opinion the main- and side missions as well as the power sets have been pretty lacking in variation.

Agreed about Naughty Dog. But other than that, they'd be perfect when it comes to tone and characterization, as I think the Uncharted series has shown, as well as mixing serious stuff like in The Last of Us. If they'd be interested in Spider-Man, we'd be in for a ride!

Ah yeah, I understood that and I totally agree with you! I was just sharing my thoughts on if they'd be interested or not, which I think they wouldn't.

I haven't played Sunset but I like the visual style for it. I'd tone the cartoony look down a little though and have it look more like the Amazing version in Shattered Dimension.

Like here: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4090/4974415987_fb710bc7d6_b.jpg , except New York and the skyline should have more colors.

Also, while it's cool that Insomniac go for the light tone in their games, I find their humour to not be that funny to be frank.

I have already played Last of Us on my PS3 :woot:, but, yes, it is an exceptional game and of course it's by ND. I would definitely be excited if it was announced they would be developing a AAA-title for Spider-Man but I think that is quite a longshot if there ever was one.

I'll still probably play AK anyway despite the groans because I loved AA and AC so much. Maybe it's better if I go into it with lowered expectations.

Sucker Punch came to mind as a good developer because of how much I love their Infamous series (haven't played Second Son though) and felt they could give Spidey a good game. I also, read that somewhere they would be interested in making a Spidey game. I'm not confident they would be the absolute best available candidate for a AAA-title but imo they'd serve as a notable step up from Beenox and Activision.

I wouldn't want to see Sucker Punch do a Spider-man game. Their Infamous games are fairly meh. Like you say Oscorp, not much in variation. They have trouble fleshing out the game and its world imo. I feel like they'd be better off aiming to make smaller, non- AAA games. Something they could handle better. I've played worse, but they're not that great as far as open world games go. Plus they're storytelling is similarly meh.

I have TLoU on PS3 as well, but still bought it on PS4 and in my opinion it's worth it! The 60fps makes a big difference and there are loads of new maps in multiplayer that are great! :)

Yeah, it's always best to form your own opinion. As I said, it's not bad by any means.

Sucker Punch would definitely be a step up from Beenox and Activision, no doubt! Even though the inFamous games aren't among my favourites, it would be cool to see how a Spider-Man game made by them would be like!

Yep!The free flowing action is perfect for spidey and the grappling hook and parachute (closest thing to a web) are probably the best thing in the game :woot:

I forgot they said they had a comic book game they're working on, wonder what it will be like.

Welcome to the boards. :)
