Iron Man 3 The Iron Man 3 Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 1

400M isn't even a question. It would have to have drops worse than any other CB movie ever for the next two weeks. The only question is if 450 is on the table.

With IM2s multiplier its 425M

Even with SM3 multiplier its at 390 and Disney would leave it in the theater and/or fudge to get it to 400m

Its a good number considering Gatsby did better than anyone expected.

I was warning about Gatsby early in this thread. The cast makes it the perfect chick type flick and the perfect mother's day weekend film. I know quite a few women who saw Iron Man 3 last week (and loved it) but really want to see Gatsby this weekend and make a day of it on mother's day.

I've seen Gatsby and it doesn't matter that the critics deem it rotten or that the movie itself is actually morbid and depressing. It's opening is as big as I expected.

General word of mouth will be and has been better for Iron Man 3. Still, Gatsby and next week Star Trek will cut in to IM3's legs. Reception and word of mouth has nothing to do with it, it's the quality of the competition's PR that makes the ultimate dent.

Well i just saw it was ok but i don't see it as the the type of film that will generate the kind of repeat viewings that made the avengers so much money.

I'd be surprised if it overtook TDKR's domestic total from last year.

gatsby is a turd though i thought? so it will surely drop off significantly thanks to word of mouth? maybe?

i dunno, i think baz luhrman hasn't made a good film since strictly ballroom (romeo and juliet was okay too)

is iron man 3 still on track for 1 billion? you guys seem much more in depth with your predictions than myself lol.

Just came back from seeing the movie for the 2nd time and the house was packed. Lots of laughs during this movie. Don't get the people who say the film had bad word of mouth:huh: The internet does not speak for the world.

There seems to be a lot of unrealistically doomy/ gloomy predictions about this film. It looks set for a $75 M weekend with the Saturday estimates, and is still on track for $425 M-475 M. All of these $380 M predictions are completely unfounded, and would make this Marvel Studios' worst ratio performer ever, which I just don't see happening.

If this performed like TIH and Iron Man 2, two films with significantly less public good will, it would hit $423 M. If it performs like Thor or Captain America, films that have roughly equal good will, it would hit $475-485 M. There's no scenario founded in math or history that has this hitting $380 M.

Iron Man 3 will hit $1 Billion before Star Trek: Into Darkness hits theaters.

I have to check the OS predictions for this weekend and the weekdays, but Team Downey & Marvel can probably pop the cork on their billion-dollar bubbly by next Wednesday.

Just for omparison, $1.209 billion is exactly double the combined worldwide box office of Iron Man & Iron Man 2. That would be a great mark for Iron Man 3 to meet or exceed. With just a few million more than that the Iron Man Trilogy will have outperformed the Dark Knight movies ($2.459B). :awesome:

Even if it doesn't hit $425 million, it's still guaranteed to be the biggest movie box office wise for the solo-Iron Man trilogy.

And it looks like >60% of IM3's gross will come from overseas markets, which is just phenomenal for a superhero film, or any US-produced film for that matter.

Guess all that China asskissing worked.

I've been saying this movie has been the biggest disconnect between the fan boys and the general audience. From a strong vocal minority, you'd think this was the worst movie ever, but the audiences absolutely love it, including the twist.

Exactly, it passed the WW totals of both films last week, and now it will pass the domestic total of both by middle of next week.

The same could be said for The Dark Knight Rises... the general public loved it.

Fanboys have become much too picky. It's like they've made their minds up before they even sit in the theater.

Fans who didn't like IM3 or TDKR didn't make that decision before watching the movie. Both films had nothing but strong hype prior to fans seeing it.

And this is coming from someone who greatly enjoyed IM3. Glad the movie is a massive hit.

It isnt even that fun to discuss these movies anymore. Everything has to be the greatest movie ever made, its 'meh', or its the worst movie ever made. Every movie is nitpicked to death and every franchise has some large group of rival trolls crapping on everything/concern trolling.

They're like any other minority of psychorigid people that can not accept change. Just for that, I'm more than happy that IM3 makes more than a billion, it deserves it more than other movies for sure.

This movie playing like a family film seems a bit strange but I guess the kid and lack of alternatives help that.
