I need to see this film now. I cannot wait to see the layers upon layers of Phoenix’s performance and the thematics of the film. I expect this film will cause a ton of discussion and may be polarizing among audiences

Studios have to be creative if they're not Disney, which books all the prime release dates 5-7 years in advance.

Basically, almost every month is fair game for a potential blockbuster now, except for January. Movies like Black Panther, IT, Venom, and GOTG broke the typical release mold for blockbusters.

It would not surprise me if Joker surpasses the higher end of tracking for a potential $95M-100M opening, if audiences love it. Then I expect WB to start booking early October dates for the next 2-3 years, a la the post-Labor Day slots for their New Line horror films.

I feel like unless they just have a massive stick lodged up their behinds per the norm regarding these types of flicks, Phoenix is a lock for a nod at the Academy.

Just goes to show, never take a director's skills at face value. A lot of comedy directors have hidden talents for directing deeper **** than just pratfalls.

This movie isn't going to hold back. A true vision of how terrible mental illness can be.

Jesus, this actually looks closer to a horror movie than a traditional drama. He's getting awards for this, even if it's not an Oscar, who cares?

I honestly could see this getting a best cinematography nomination along with potential for ones like best picture and best actor.

I can't get over the clip of him dancing down the stairs. It's such a symbolic representation of his descent into madness.

The direction really feels like some kind of indie film. Even if they're small clips, they can give you an idea of how the cinematography for this movie is going to be: A small simple film.

He's becoming the villain he was always destined to be, and he's loving it.

Yeah but I'm still worried as to how the general audience's perception/interest in this will be. Already seeing a lot of Facebook commenters coming in with the "gonna be ****, don't waste your money" , "pretentious Oscar bait" etc etc type of rhetoric

They don't want a deep character study they want a supervillain romp like Venom.
