Joker "The Joker" in development with Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese attached? - Part 2

Apparently they had a small press screening in LA or NY a couple days ago that some Youtubers went to. I just watched two reviews so far which echo the "Masterpiece" sentiment

Keep in mind positive early reviews almost always drop off during the wider release. Remember the positive reviews for Pet Semetary, and The Last Exorcism? (I liked those films btw)

I remember those films, but none of them got so many high ratings as this one is getting. Still liked them tho.

God I just wanna listen to the score.

But I already see the naysayers coming in. I feel like it's going to be another one of those "it was good until it wasn't anymore" type of reviewed films.

Perhaps, but those naysayers are in the small minority and I feel the early critics who rated it positively are a lot more effusive about this one than either of the two movies you mentioned that got early reviews. That’s not to discount the possibility since there will definitely be more negative reviews closer to release but so far so good.

That sounds so hyperbolic its not even funny. Even if Joker somehow made a billion dollars Marvel is not going to suddenly start churning out R rated dark gritty drama character pieces starring Antman and Black Widow.

All this movie’s success will do is embolden DC to take more risks in doing more lower budget, eccentric films in the future which is GOOD thing, people. Sheesh.

I love the MCU/Marvel but I don't see them ever putting out a low-budget, R-rated CBM. They make too much money doing what they're already successful at to change up anything. DC/WB doing more of these helps keep the genre fresh and provides an option for people who don't want to follow what's going on in the shared universes to watch the movies.

Yeah, DC has numerous character that this style of a movie might suit while also having some that don't. Same applies to Marvel. Daredevil, Punisher, Wolverine could be done in a different way. Deadpool of course, who I think will be in both R-rated and PG-13 movies.

Marvel made $4billion dollars this year with two movies. They don't give a damn what DC's doing and will not be aping anything DC does anytime soon despite whatever critical acclaim.

That too, just like how DC got flack for starting their universe right after the Avengers blew up, same would apply here. Besides they have Hulu to use for these types of stories

This movie isn't liberal. From what i read in the script, it laughs about both sides. Everyone is supposed to be terrible and disgusting. Kinda like A Clockwork Orange. There are no good guys in this story.

I think the Gizmodo or some other review mentioned this exactly.

Arthur Fleck is what 30-40 in this and Bruce is about 10ish? So once again that raises the same issue for me which made me unable to watch Gotham beyond three episodes. By the time Bruce becomes Batman, his arch nemesis would be 50+ years old. I don't recall there being such a huge age difference between the two in the comics or animated series/films. Same with all the other villains from the Rogue's Gallery.

This. Feige knows what he's doing and imitating others has never been his MO.

Watched an interview with Phoenix talking about feeling joy, while playing the joker. Heath had similar comments about the character. Leto who is destroyed around here has also stated to having an absolute fun playing him. There is a lot of myth of darkness and staying in character that gets exaggerated by the media around this part. Eh.

Tis' just a movie. Tis just a character.

Watching Phoenix's interviews, is it just me or does his voice is kinda similar to Mark Hamill's?

Well, it is an Elseworlds story (like Gotham eventually became). How it ends should be pretty interesting.

Plus, and potential big spoiler alert here,
there were set photos quite a while back of Joker laying down on the ground either dead or at least severely injured.

Joker had a hard life.
