For those who don't know the italian language the adjectives near the star ratings are
1 Star: Forgettable
2 stars:Strength and weakness
3 stars:Interesting
4 stars: Unmissable
5 stars: Perfection exist

Judging by how critics are raving about it, Joker has a better chance of becoming the first $100M opening film in October post Venice.

I mean... wow. And this could having staying power well into Thanksgiving.

Great to see it's getting the critical acclaim it seems to deserve. I'm holding my expectations in check for how well it does at the box office because if this is being described as a slow burn again and again, I don't think the general audience will be receptive.

Exactly. How do you think Bill Murray lost to Sean ****ing Penn? Or how Jim Carrey has yet to get a nom? They don’t do campaigning.
Joaquin also doesn't care about awards. He did say this in 2012 about nominations for The Master.
I'm just saying that I think it's bull****. I think it's total, utter bull****, and I don't want to be a part of it. I don't believe in it. It's a carrot, but it's the worst-tasting carrot I've ever tasted in my whole life. I don't want this carrot. It's totally subjective. Pitting people against each other . . . It's the stupidest thing in the whole world. It was one of the most uncomfortable periods of my life when Walk the Line was going through all the awards stuff and all that. I never want to have that experience again. I don't know how to explain it—and it's not like I'm in this place where I think I'm just above it—but I just don't ever want to get comfortable with that part of things.

Still think it's gonna be a 2 man race between Adam Driver & Joaquin for Best Actor. Two actors who I love, so I'd be fine with either winning. Really want De Niro to get a nomination for The Irishman too, but I feel like the CGI on his face is gonna hurt his chances with some members

I still can't believe its RT average rating is that high and how people are giving it absolute scores. Wonder how much that's gonna change when more reviews come in.

I'd like for Pattinson to get his nomination as well, but it's unlikely as hell.

Agreed. The RT score is insanely good right now

Campaigning for an award is essentially begging for said award. If actors & actresses gotta beg thats not winning

Early as hell, especially since Rotten tomatoes added 600 critics to the site. It’s at 88% now with 32 reviews. Good to see.

Welcome to the American awards circuit. This is how they have always worked. They have never actually mattered or have had an ounce of credibility.

I'm not for or against this film. I just know how misleading early reviews can be compared to reviews when the film gets a wider release. That's all. I've seen it before in other films like Birth of A Nation.

Right but early reviews for things like that are different than this. It isnt apples to apples...

Normally I would 100% have your opinion...I always preach caution and restraint until it hits around 50. The reason though is that often the early reviews are tailored to be good. They bribe bloggers, they handpick who can and will see the film at various stages to try and make things turn their way. (especially if the film is expected to have issues) Because of stuff like that early reviews (whether fan or "critic") have to be taken with a grain of salt.

Now if there is a wider screening I give it a bit more credence. When WW had a sneak preview a month before (which I was at) and it allowed social media posts that is a good sign. Still doesnt prove anything cause they can still control the narrative, but it is a much better sign. (see also: Shazam)

This though is a completely different animal. WB has zero control of the narrative. They opened it at a (big and rather prestigious) film festival and allowed the embargo to lift day and date. The press for this isnt going to just be nerd friendly press like at sneaks and fan events...manstream press was there as well. And right now it isnt even close. 88% on RT with the same 4 negative reviews. Average rating of 9.05/10. Legit Oscar buzz. (not fans and bloggers saying it for hyperbole) If it holds around here when it gets to 50 reviews its in the bag. The mainstream US Press will fall all over itself to praise the film en masse because they are basically lemmings anyways. There will be some that go the route of the Time article, or those that hate it because they agree with the Twitter Nazis...but most will want to be on the bandwagon for a film that looks to be around a long time and will be touring award shows. They wont risk looking that dumb.

Long story short: It is ok to enjoy what we are reading/experiencing. It most likely isnt a mirage :)

I think deep down we all like recognition regardless of the lip service we provide. It's just hardwired into us.

If the movie is good and has great performances in it, that speaks for itself, fans looking at review aggregate sites like RT, is just them wanting further validation, is that really needed ?

Normally no. But this film is a different beast and Phillips has been trying to convince WB to look for ways to do more films like it. If it is something that critics can love it will allow that to happen. So to me watching RT (which usually I hate) has actual value because it could lead to an expanding of the genre that is sorely needed.

If this was Aquaman I could hardly care. I would just read the RT thread to see everyone flipping out :D But this is a new animal, this was a risk Phillips took on an idea that could have crashed and burned. This is WB throwing Award Show hype (not CBM Summer Blockbuster hype) behind a film about a comic villain. Since I aint in Venice and the film doesnt come out for a month watching RT and Twitter is all I got ;)

I am not sure how much hyperbole comes into play here but I would say a 4 start average (which apparently means unmissable) is pretty dang good and has to have everyone involved BEAMING! I mean that is the second highest score on that card and 1 of only 2 with above a 4 :)

lol, that ain't gonna happen. Best Actor's the most competitive its been in years. Phoenix, Driver, Antonio Banderas, and DiCaprio seem like safe bets for nominations, and the competition for the 5th slot is crazy. Could be Ed Norton (depends on TIFF?), Adam Sandler, or Jonathan Pryce. And that's just on movies that already screened, De Niro, Mark Ruffalo, Eddie Murphy and Michael B. Jordan could all make a dent too when their films premiere.

We'll see. That was 7 years ago.

If he truly doesnt like it he doesnt have to show up. He will though and if he wins he will give a speech. He wont campaign for it (though WB will) but he wont exactly spit on it if he wins. ;)

Yeah The Lighthouse isn't happening. I've already made my peace with that.

Adam Sandler is never getting a nomination. He's not an Oscar friendly actor, Uncut Gems is not an Oscar friendly movie and Safdies aren't oscar friendly directors yet.

I can't believe it has a higher media than A Marriage Story and Ad Astra, films that are getting praised at Twitter by the ones that hate this one. This will make Twitter go more mad.
