Joker "The Joker" in development with Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese attached? - Part 2

The reviews of this movie are kinda insane. Like that Solzy at the movies review. Or the EW review.
Many bad reviews agree the movie is very well done but still dislike it. There are some that have good reasons to dislike the film, tho.

Depends on the movie, but despite being passable, I wouldn’t recommend a movie rated 7 by me.

But either way it depends on the genre, story, and who I am recommending it to.

Joi Childs is a RottenTomatoes approved critic. The publications she does reviews for can be seen at the link above. I believe this is the 7/10 score everyone keeps talking about?

Her review history seems to always be fresh for the most part; she hasn't rated a film rotten while the tomato meter says fresh yet so Joker's a first.

I think she rated it rotten as the narrative focus she found to be unconventional and maybe focusing on the negative too much is my guess.

Why is it that every time a WB/DC film is released, it seems the fans in the threads act in utter horror and shock at how Rotten Tomatoes has pretty much always worked?

That's actually my favorite manip I've seen for this movie. The bloody Ronald McDonald is kinda weird, but I like the rest.

Your sig reminds me that I hated that line/moment in the movie. A lame unfunny racial moment that got nothing but crickets. Eh.

"10/10. A true piece of art. DC rules, Marvel drools. Also Gal and/or Margot if you see this, call me!!!" - Black Narcissus

Honestly, I get it how she may care to give it and give props for removing personal taste from an objective score but RottenTomatoes should take the actual score into account...

Joker presales in Chile (according to Box Office Theory forum):

Joker, 11 days before release,17% of the market

62 showings for OD | 14.742 seats available | 730 tickets sold

Excellent presales for the Joker, outpacing Spiderman FFH by 10% and could target Captain Marvel final PS or maybe even more. Also, on the ground I sense a lot of excitement about the movie. I expect great things from its BO.

Just judging by the way Phoenix looks in this film, you'd have to think it's a one-off. I mean, he's not generally a rail-thin guy by any means, but he looks EMACIATED in this movie. That's not to say he would never lose all that weight again but most actors not named Christian Bale don't put themselves through that kind of torture regularly.

Judging from every interview I've seen now, Phoenix genuinely is excited to talk about his role and even when asked if he had to go to a dark place for the role, he always denies it and says he just had more fun than people would think.

So far Todd Philiips is the most reluctant and adamant about not doing a sequel which is surprising lol
I don't think it'll happen but its fun to think about.

IF they were to do a sequel why not just continue from the Joker's perspective?

I remember reading that "Joker" one-shot comic book back around the time The Dark Knight came out and he ends up meeting Batman right at the very end of it yet we don't see the outcome. If Batman were to fit into these movies I think it would be an image of absurdity to end a film with as the credits begin to roll.

Man, watching this Joker meet his Batman would be so ****ing incredible. Problably never gonna happen but man, it would be insane.

Why do people even want this to be good? You won’t get the money it gets nor the non-existent awards it may or may not hypothetically receive. The sheer love for a movie you haven’t even seen yet borders on fanaticism.
