Joker "The Joker" in development with Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese attached? - Part 2

Exciting to read all your reactions. I should hopefully be seeing it very soon. I will say, I haven't exactly been 'hyped' for this in so much that it's hard for me to get excited for what seems to be a bleak, nihilistic ride straight down to hell, haha. That said, I'm really dying to see Phoenix's performance and it seems to be universally praised even with critics who disliked the film.

Because those critics have had a hard on ever since The Dark Knight and Dark Knight Rises caused mass violence they obviously think that this film will do the same

I know the point you're trying to make, but I wouldn't go and blame the films for that. Kind of works against the argument that films aren't endorsing violence and people are responsible for their actions.

Exactly critics are too uptight nowadays

Seeing this in four hours on the big IMAX screen. :hmr:

Dark, tragic, funny, haunting, this film shook me. This was a really good movie, man. Phoenix went to town on this role. There are a couple of moments of shocking violence but it is nowhere near what the media is painting this movie to be. My only complaint with the movie is I felt there were a couple of moments where they beat you over the head with some of the themes and I'm like "ok I got it." Some moments could've been more subtle instead of spelling it out in crayon.

But overall fantastic film. I don't know if I'll watch it again right away because its not that kind of movie but I WILL watch it again, i just...need time to digest it.

Didn't like the choice of Gary Glitter, ruined the stairwell scene for me... should have been purely score or a classical song like the Sinatra or something.

Luckily they didn't go full SPECTRE... I was scared for a second, and for it to be a delusion of Penny Fleck fixed that almost dumb plot line.

While I overly enjoyed the film... and, Phoenix was outstandingly great. I still think Ledger gave us a little more sparkle and something more special.

Really came down to the Murray scene.

Hands down Ledger speeches/tv scenes-antics pulled more punches and made more of an impact for me. I don't know, something about how Phillips changed the mood/feel during that scene didn't gel for me... the pauses, the responses. Just felt a little off/not correlating with what he was building up to. Only time Phoenix felt like he was trying/acting as The Joker and not just being The Joker.

Yet...

His murder of the one clown and letting his shorter friend clown go was amazing. Felt very Joker... he sometimes cuts his deaths like that. You never know why or how you're spared sometimes.

While I would have preferred something classical, I really liked the Glitter number. It worked for me.

It probably doesn't help having heard that song hundreds of times during my youth playing hockey, due to Jock Jams Vol. 1...

Got my tickets for 8PM tonight

Had to do local AMC IMAX because Alamo was sold out. Is it bad that I feel nervous of something happening?

I'm starting to wonder if those Zack Snyder fans were on to something. I mean it was abundantly obvious even from the trailers that this movie wasn't even going to be about violence and bloodshed much less glorification of it. Joker as a character isn't even that affiliated with guns either. Maybe these critics really do have it in for serious DC films?

And so it starts. Now those people on Twitter crying and moaning about the movie and how it'll bring in a new wave of terrorism are gonna feel validated and say "I told you so" because of one mentally ill person. :whatever:

Just came back from the cinema.

What a brilliant movie.

From Phoenix's terrific performance, the amazing cinematography and 80's city feel and the haunting soundtrack, to the commentary on rich vs poor in the society, and he importance of mental health and its devastating effects.

9.5/10

Very curious how mass audiences will receive this because this is NOT the kind of movie you walk out of feeling good or like “i wanna see that again!” Its been two hours and I still feel dirty from it. Lol

Joker is heading for a $90+ mil US opening 3day.
October record ($80,26 mil) will be claimed. It was nice while it lasted for Venom.

Heading for $500+ mil WW total , unless somehow OS tanks.
do you think that is still possible even without China?
