Joker "The Joker" in development with Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese attached? - Part 2

B+ Cinemascore

... better than I expected given the type of film it is. Thought it may get a sort of 'Drive' reaction from some audiences expecting something else.

Pretty great I'd say. Especially the 3rd act. Though it was going well for me beforehand, I felt like the 3rd act was when the material finally caught up to Joaquin's glorious performance.

What's funny for me is that for all the talk about the violence and bleakness of the film if there's only one complaint I have is that I wish it went a little bit further than it did. Meaning..

I wish Gotham had some more good people he could hurt in this film. I never felt like i left Arthur's side and I wished that I did. Seeing him kill the girl or the little person could have done that for me.

Walking into the theater to go see the movie there was a lady who'd just gotten out from a showing and was loudly complaining that she thought it would be "PG-13 like Batman" and that it was "nothing but killing". Some people are spectacularly good at being completely ignorant to what movie they're watching, and just as good at failing to understand what they've actually watched.

Got back an hour ago to think about this:

Mercy in Heavan, I was not prepared for all I got in this movie. I've read as much discussion after watching the movie, and I can sincerely say its a great, truly GREAT film.

So many layers, incredible moments and scenes, deep for a "blockbuster movie", this is gonna stay with me for a long time.

THAT moment near the end will be THE iconic shot of Pheonix's Joker.

Hildur's score is simply gorgeous. I hope she gets an Oscar nom/win.

It haunted me...it still does.

I honestly didnt find the film slow but maybe I will upon second viewing.

I wont lie...I wish we could get a sequel cause I would LOVE to see where this Gotham is 10 years later.

There was clearly a lot of pearl clutching and panic over this film that was undeserved and inaccurate.

A movie about violent, deranged, disturbed misanthrope is not some new Earth-shattering thing.

I think the panic over this movie stems from it looking more realistic and sometimes that can be frightening. A dude with a mental condition who is struggling becomes a real-life boogeyman. And because of fears of mass shootings now, this iteration of the character embodies more primal fears.

If anything, this just means Phillips and Phoenix did an effective job.

What can I say about this film that hasn't already been said? Best WB/DC film since TDK (and the first one that can really challenge it for "Best CBM Movie Ever" title") and Phoenix was mesmerizing. I'll never forget the closeup as he grins while his boss berates him over the sign. My friend and I simultaneously said out loud, "Whoa". That was so intense.

I actually think having a film like this is good for opening up conversations on how we as a society can try to prevent escalation like this.

This. This is precisely what I told my friend tonight as we left the theatre. If anything, I felt more sympathetic and sorry for men who feel isolated and alone in society.

Amazing movie, I can’t wait to watch it again.

I loved the little Batman Easter eggs throughout, leaving that door open just in case for future movies. I will be happy if this was a standalone but WB is going to be tempted to do more because how much money this is going to make.

I am so baffled by all the controversy. Truly never known anything like it. I feel like I must have been watching a different film.

This is a well crafted, brilliantly performed character study. Nothing less. Nothing more.
It's the twitter woke crowd that have probably never lifted a finger to alleviate the issues in society that they accuse this film of lionising.

I say that as a Liberal and compassionate person who volunteered in homeless and mental health services for two years of my life.

"That" scene at the end on the cop car......my goodness, everything about that sequence was perfection. Guðnadóttir's score was freaking beautiful and I believe she composed it all by herself, wow.

If she keeps doing score like this one she could be next Zimmer.

Twitter is garbage

Majority of those “outraged” people do not have a clue on just about anything outside their bubble and like to complain to seek attention, get some likes, and re-Tweets

This cancel culture we are living in right now is ridiculous but slowly but surely it seems like the tides are turning

That was iconic, or at least will be, for Phoenix's take on the Joker. I was really hoping that was the last shot of the film.

I really loved the film, I can't wait to watch it again. Quite a lot to digest.

Jesus. Everytime i remember this film it keeps getting better. The score, the cinematography, acting and script... Never felt this with a film before. Most of times the more i analyzed the film the more i liked it less. But it's different with this one. I get the meaning of things i didn't understand before.

Best thing will be when this movie breaks all the records and they realize no one gives a **** about their opinions (which arent really opinions tbh)

‘Joker’ Beating ‘Venom’s Record October Box Office Record With $92M Opening – Deadline

Joker continues to rob a record amount of cash from the October box office with Friday looking at an increased $39.8M, now putting the Warner Bros./Village Roadshow/Bron Studios pic’s 3-day at $94M. One rival distribution source believes that Joker, in play at 17 offshore territories, is heading to a worldwide opening between $188M-$194M. That would be right behind Venom‘s opening October global record of $207.4M.

Many sources tell me that when it comes to Joker‘s success, a lot of credit is owed to Warner Bros. President, Worldwide Marketing of Pictures and Home Entertainment, Blair Rich. I’m told that she saw how Joker could be sold before Phillips shot a single frame. Her talent for positioning films in the market, and cutting through the noise with riveting one-sheet and billboard imagery goes all the way back to 300. The story is that the fate of that visual avant-garde $65M spartan production (which the studio allegedly didn’t get at the time) changed the day Rich showed up to the set in Canada. She saw the pre-production drawings, and immediately understand what Snyder and his team were trying to do. The pic opened to a massive $70.9M stateside in March 2007, and finaled at $210.6M domestic, $456M worldwide. I hear that it’s Rich who encouraged distribution to find a release date for Joker that was in the prime spot of awards season given Joker‘s prestige value. Not to dismiss the hard work of others in the Warner Bros. team in regards to this success, but an all-hands on deck calculated passion was employed to launch this pic at the fall festivals versus the de rigueur deployment at San Diego Comic-Con.

Says RelishMix in their latest social media analytics report, “It’s fair to say that when a casual moviegoer thinks about Joker or any superhero/comic book related film, they don’t really associate these movies with prestigious film festivals and references about awards season. But, when Joker won the Golden Lion, the online discussion changed dramatically.”

Joker was sold in its imagery as a hip, cool film with shots of Phoenix dancing down steps, and the the first trailer dropped out of CinemaCon back in April showed that Joker was the comic-book movie you’ve never seen before, especially at a time when James Mangold, Taika Waititi and James Gunn have changed the game; the Phillips’ film possessed a fun, yet, dark, Scorsese-meets-Frank Miller sensibility.

RelishMix reports that Joker‘s social media universe counts 480M across Facebook, YouTube views, Twitter, Instagram, which though is lower than the standard 654M opening weekend SMU for a comic-book movie, touts an extraordinary 244:1 earned/owned viral rate off two clips on Warners YouTube channel. “These two clips scored an immense volume of engagement, spurred by fan comparisons to other portrayals of the character, and how this film would stand out in tone and story. But the question becomes, is this a superhero movie? When looking at drama/thriller’s usual YT views, Joker at 82K again exceeds the average of 22K. The film’s SMU also outstrips the 82.8M average for a drama/thriller in its opening week.”

“This film deserves a lot of credit for its social campaign, which teased the audience from the very start. For comparison, Joker has only 16 official clips on its Facebook page and two on WB’s official YT Channel – which is extremely close to the vest compared to other superhero or action/adventure films. That said, this is one of the most socially engaging films of the year,” further praises RelishMix.

Warners reduced its risk on the movie with two financial partners, Village Roadshow at 25% and Bron Studios at 15%. We hear Joker cost $70M before P&A, but others contend that its net cost is in the $60Ms.

I am very liberal too but the criticism against this movie makes our side appear overly sensitive. I just hope the vast majority of people know that these "woke" critics are a minority that just so happens to speak loudly as if they are speaking for all of us when in fact they are NOT.

Saw it a few days ago, loved it. Haven't had the time to engage in full spoiler discussion.

Saw it last night and loved it. A little stunned by how good it is.

There's an art gallery close by that has a lot of pictures depicting regular life with the shadows of those depictions looking like pop culture icons. For instance, boy with a bin lid but his shadow is Captain America. This film made me think about that.
