Joker "The Joker" in development with Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese attached? - Part 2

This movie has performed beyond anyone's expectations. It's an exceptional performance for sure, I hope WB, Joaquin Phoenix and Todd Philips would want to keep it special and not ruin it by green-lighting a sequel.

WB right now...

Bet WB is kicking themselves for splitting off the profit between Bron and Village Roadshow studios right now

I doubt it...I mean depending on the split they made better return on investment than you would hitting a trifecta at the track :wow:

The BO of this film is out of this world.

Well deserved!

And to think that based on the teaser trailer I thought this would do $300-400 million WW at the most...

New to the board. I think a Joker and Harley Mad Love type Valentine's Day movie would have done very well at the box office. I wonder why the went with Birds of Prey.

Welcome friend. I'm thankful they didn't. This film squarely kills the notion that Joker needs Harley for anything.

I hear you but I think people would rather see a Harley/Joker movie with some Ivy. Instead of Birds of Prey.

Billie locked & loaded without China and with an R-rating, a small budget, and no big action set-pieces. Joaquin Phoenix turned out to be the best special effect they could have hoped for
I love the term Billie lol. I don't know if it was you or someone else that used it in this thread a few weeks ago but it made me lol then and it makes me lol now. I am totally stealing it. its just too cool of a term.

If they ever did a sequel, i would like them to add Harley to show everyone how terrible her relationship with Joker truly is, instead of that romantic **** they did with SS. An exploration of abuse and codependency could make a great and sad film imo. They would touch a theme not many (if any) cbm has touched yet.

Ok so... I really want this film to make a Billie! And I think it could but I have been looking at the numbers and it might fall just short at $969 million depending on the drops. ...And this is just a guess.

So I was looking at the comparison chart on Box Office Mojo between Joker, Venom, and Logan. I am able to view it the old school way because ever since Box Office Mojo(BOM) made those stupid updates, I refused to close the window I had open prior to the updates because the old BOM website just had more details. Anyway, needless to say, the joker numbers I have on that chart stops on the 21st because BOM updated the next day. So looking at it Joker, it's 4th domestic week is comparable to Venom and Logan's 3rd domestic week.

This weekend's 18.9 box office total is slightly stronger than venom and logans 3rd-weekend box office total. and that counts as jokers 4th weekend btw which is a good thing. So it should end its 4th week around 23+ million like how venom and Logan ended their 3rd. And if things continue like this chart domestically it will go on to gross:

  • 14 million week 5
  • 10 million week 6
  • 7 million week 7
  • 3 million week 8
  • 1 million week 9
And so on and so forth by the end of its domestic run, it should gain an additional 40 million give or take for a +/- $317.5 domestic total.

Now if we look at the international numbers in a similar way, and I am no expert by any means, This is just a guestimate. It just ended an $80 million week. cutting it in half every week from here:

  • 40 million
  • 20 million
  • 10 million
  • 5 million
  • 2 million
  • 1 million
That adds up to $79 million give or take. when you add that with the 40 million that should be made domestically and the 850 million already in the bank, that adds up to $969 million

Now I hope it will make more, but I am not 100% certain it will crack a Billie. Either way, wherever it lands we should be happy. And I sure hope it cracks a billion Gitesh Pandya sure thinks it has a good shot and he is WAY more experienced at this than I will ever be. I was just doing peabrain math with no true understanding of how things work.

As much as I didn't care for the film, its success is very important, because it proves you don't need to spend $200 million on a movie to make massive profits. I hope all studios see this success as proof not every movie needs to be this over the top action spectacle to make bank.

I just hope they don't try to have a female empowerment arc for Harley. I've always felt she was the wrong character to do that.

We live in a society where an R rated intimate character study of Joker makes more money than Batman and Superman.

Finally saw this. Pretty good film, but I'm still convinced it didn't need the Joker at all. Could have just been a human character study piece and been just as good, but probably wouldn't have made all the $$$. Still, way over-hyped in my eyes.
