I think Joker is effective because it is at times very unsettling, disturbing and unnerving. It taps into very psychologically dark and very scary areas.

I mean shouldn't movies do that? I mean they are fiction. No one is really getting hurt. That should be an area where nothing is off limits.

Also as for violence against women, depiction of an abhorrent act is not an approval of said act.

Didn't Indiewire give an arsey review accusing the director of being "edgelord" and the film of being toxic? That article very much reads like they are trying to present Harron as someone who isn't credible.

There are people dressing up as the Joker during the protests.

Of course those wanting to take advantage of legitimate fights for justice to live out their fantasies are going to show up dressed as Joker. That's basically the whole existence of the movie right there.

(NOTE: I finally watched this. And seeing it in the light of the last few months makes its problems even more obvious than I'm sure they would have been had I seen it months ago)

I already knew the problems even then. I mean I wrote that more than 2 weeks ago, so I don’t know if they’re still doing it but it’s so bizarre to see, both white and black people, using a character born out of chaos as some symbol of resistance or whatever. I’m flabbergasted.

I still got my fingers crossed for the sequel announcement. Best comic book movie of the 2010s

Why? Honest to God why? I'm kinda completely over the idea of a sequel at this point. Let movies stand on their own two feet .
This is a silly mindset. If Joaquin and Phillips are open to the idea and have a good concept, then why the hell not?
The sequel talks were reported by the trades so we know there’s some legitimacy to them.

I want a full movie of this Joker. My favorite comic book performance ever.

Yeah I'm not personally someone who buys into the idea of sequels taking something away from the original. If you don't like the idea of a sequel, then just don't watch it. The original will still be there. I could care less if it ends up actually being a good movie (though that would obviously be ideal), I just want to see Phoenix showcase his fully formed take on the Joker. Twenty or so minutes was simply not enough for such a great take on the character.

If they do a sequel, set the entire film in Arkham Hospital. Make the comic book equivalent of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

As part of his neurosis, Arthur always sees himself or views himself in Joker makeup. Heck, if it's all in his head you could even get away with giving him the permawhite skin.
