Looking back at all the live-action Joker's, one of the reasons I feel like Leto didn’t capture audiences was how joyless the performance was. People always refer to Ledger’s as being the darkest and most violent of them all, and they’re not wrong. But Nolan and Heath were smart to keep the character’s humor in-tact. He had fun, and as an audience we had fun watching him (even if at times, uncomfortably). This was non-existent with Leto’s iteration.
That's what I've been saying. Leto never once cracked an actual joke in all of his screentime, unless purring/growling and going " HUNKAH HUNKAAAH " somehow count as jokes. Ledger was constantly cracking jokes, humming little tunes to himself, even skipping towards Bats playfully, etc. That's what utterly irritates the living **** out of me whenever people say Ledger " didn't feel like the comic book Joker " or " was just playing an anarchist in makeup, not the Joker " etc. etc.

The look certainly wasn't what I was expecting. Final look or not, I like it more than Leto's.

Ledger was hilarious in the role. Joker should ideally be funny and scary, often at the same time. I'm thinking specifically of his video interrogation of the fake Batman in TDK; he goes from playful giggling to demonic shouting in a second.

I can't wait to see him beat the **** out of someone with a crowbar.

Ledger had me in hysterics through his pure mannerisms.

I try not to be too harsh on Leto. I don't think the portrayal should be pinned on him but Snyder. Snyder has casted wonderfully and Leto was another great choice... but the characterisation was horrendous. No way Leto came up with that crap on his own.

Sold. This movie could go either way, but it looks creative and original, and unlike the Leto version, I am genuinely creeped out by this and totally see scary Joker (and John Wayne Gacy?) in Phoenix's performance as he is just "messing around" a little bit for a camera test.

Again, could go either way, but it is now the superhero movie I am most interested in seeing for next year.

Ledgers joker was the literal film adaption of the joker from the comics, and anybody who says otherwise hasn't read the comics or has and didn't pay attention. I always end up shaking my head when i hear people claim ledgers joker isn't comic accurate, when he was to the 8th degree. Then to top it off they try to claim Nicholsons joker was more accurate, which is just laughable in every sense consider Joker didn't kill batmans parents.

The motivations, the characteristics of ledger, etc, were all spot on with the Joker from the comics.

I wonder if it means we will see filming of scenes with this make-up soon?

He looks very scary! I love the purple suit. That’s the most comic accurate costume we’ve ever seen

I’m convinced this is only the first look and he will grow to look more like Joker later on. I’ll be a bit disappointed otherwise
