Joker "The Joker" in development with Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese attached? - Part 2

I'm sold just by the fact I no longer have to look at a joker with damaged tattooed on his head
That's a low bar lol
Honest question. What don't you like about it? Is it that it's not very loyal to the comic books look?
I guess the point of the film is to not be a comic book film, but a film that features a comic book character? It's not even that it's not comic book accurate. It's that it just looks like some generic dude in clown makeup in some killer clown movie that's a dime a dozen on Netflix. Nothing about this screams Joker to me. I mean Ledger's Joker wasn't exactly comic accurate, but his look was at least unique from other clowns and you can tell this isn't just your typical clown character. This? It's as generic as you can get in regards to "scary" clowns. And if I'm being honest, in the short clip, he actually looks more creepy without the makeup.

Not to get off topic but their great. Didn’t really dig their last album because it just didn’t feel the same without Alice. Some songs were good though. Alice’s EP was great.

The red nose, the painted on eyebrows, the weird blue makeup around his eyes, and most of all, that (deliberately) half-assed red smile. It looks like someone who is legally blind applied it. I get what they're trying to do here; make it all smeared and disheveled looking because it worked with Ledger.* But Ledger's look was genuinely creepy and the disheveled look they gave him somehow still emulated the more dapper looking Joker of the comics. This looks like John Wayne Gacy cosplay.

*Note, I'm not saying that they are trying to make him look like Ledger's Joker, but that they are taking cues from it in that making the Joker look messier in that version really worked.

What's the connection between this band and the video ?
My bad went off topic. OutOfBoose avatar is of the former singer of Crystal Castles. Anyway that test footage was great. I already was excited about this movie but the video made me more so.

I like the look BECAUSE he looks like John Wayne Gacy, but that's just me.

Also, Crystal Castles is amazing despite the... uuurrm.... drama within the group. Anything Alice era is amazing, at least.

So they posted the news in the page like it was the official final look of joker...

Because it probably is. For those who like it, great I guess.

Oh well. Maybe in another 10 years when they put the Joker in a Batman movie again, he'll look something like his comic book counterpart and not every other loser I see at my local haunted house on Halloween running around with a chainsaw.

Oh yeah, a lot of outlets are treating it like it's the one we'll see in the film, and I don't know if they're acknowledging that this is test footage, but I suppose it's a juicier headline to these sites to have something akin to "Here's How Joaquin Phoenix Will Look As The Joker."

As someone who on occasion writes for those sites, I can attest that they want the clickbait-y headline even if it's not the complete truth, rather than something akin to 'Warner Bros. Releases Joker Test Footage' because that doesn't get as many eyes.

Well, oddly enough I kinda dig it, despite my stance against makeup.

I'm personally not crazy about the make up itself. I mean, it's alright. What I like more is that the presentation is rather interesting and appealing, and the approach seems to be like thinking outside the box. Really hard to judge how it's gonna work in the final film. And what the actual film will be like. What it looks like for now is that it's not your typical CBM fare we get every 3 months for years...

Also, I want to see the rest of the cast. Show me Zazie Beetz, lol. She's still in, right?

Reminds me of the masks the henchmen wore in TDK.

Wonder if that's just an early version. Still not seeing anything that's selling me on this though.

Also it sounds like this isn't the final design. Early test footage.

That's what some are saying, but if it is the final form, I'll be pretty underwhelmed. Not really feeling the McJoker look.

Well I'm going to take my own advice and embrace the fact that this movie is going to do its own thing, and go with it in stride. So if that means makeup, bring it on.

If that is the closest thing to the Joker look I'm okay with that. It could mean it's more focused on something else than trying to relate to the traditional Joker. This movie seems less of a Joker origin movie and more about a guy going crazy.

Or this is a part of the narrative where it factors in thematically somehow in his mind and isn't supposed to be the actual look. Sort of like King of Comedy where Rupert sees himself as a real comedian or something. Maybe it's self punishing thing with how he sees himself and it actually gets externalized for real by the end. I'm intrigued. I like how this isn't straight forward.

It’s a fantastic make up test, and it’s great that they shared it with us... but I’m happy it’s not the final look, because it’s not The Joker, just Phoenix in John Wayne Gacy make up. Love the tone of the video, though.

We get it. You don't like it. I think we got a couple of pages ago.
