My issue is when the director openly compares the movie to Fight Club, and declares that people who think Tyler Durden is the hero will love this movie. That is pretty much outright saying that the movie is framed to indulge the sensibilities of those who *mistakenly* believed that Tyler Durden was supposed to be viewed positively.

The director said no such thing.

It's pretty ironic that Drew McWeeny tweeted (and deleted) to an underage girl to "blow [him]", right after complaining about "toxic chuds". Dude's like an overgrown incel himself, so glass houses.
I guess Lindelof's Watchmen is the only piece of superhero content left this year that I'm still excited for at this point.

I think the Fight Club thing is from McWeeny himself, I yet to find Todd Phillips had anything to said about this movie that specific. Which is not good right now, because it's a subjective view shared by a person who didn't even watched the final product but treated like Gospel by some people online.

Spoiler: Minor rant

The movie could ended up bad, of course there's a possibility about that. But this has a potential to leads into BvS fiasco all over again, with some people already being negative and anticipated it that way. So when most critics thought negatively, the flood gates opened and those people rejoice. The amounts of vitriol directed towards cast, crew and anyone involved were monstrous.

It doesn't have 'a room to fail' to say, if this situation continue. Not even 'divisive'. Good or bust. Nowadays a movie without good critical reviews, especially in superhero scene, is 'trash'. Most likely would be in a place where people talked about parts that perceived as bad in amplifying manner (while revel in it) and less about good parts. All Schadenfreude.

Plus it's DC. There are people who still thought that somehow DC = bad. Who will eat up anything negative unfiltered.

Thankfully the cast is epic, so acting will definitely get attention.
And so far, the negativity isn't that spread wide yet. Batman front-runner casting news sucks all the air.

There's probably another place for this, but I just heard that Robert Pattinson is going to be the next Batman, and that as many as 6 villains could feature in what will supposedly be a noir-ish story which highlights Bruce Wayne's detective skills. Anyways, colour me intrigued.

Oh yes, folks in The Batman sub are definitelly intrigued, most also on board with Battinson casting. Dude is talented.

Both Joker and next Batman movie are supposed to have that dark, noir things going on that just seem very interesting.

Imagine Gotham circa 1981. It’s a version dirty version of the city. A crime wave and garbage strike currently plague it. Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) is a loser who works as a Clown for a talent booking agency. A social worker is following him on a semi-regular basis because of profound mental health issues. He wants to become a stand-up comic. Arthur also suffers from a debilitating disease that makes him unable to control his laugh. He’s also the caretaker of his mom with whom he lives.

Thomas Wayne (Brett Cullen) is running for Mayor of Gotham; his platform is mainly about cleaning the city. Penny, Arthur’s mom, worked as a housekeeper for the Wayne family for 12 years. She’s been trying to get in contact with her old employer, but he’s not acknowledging her letters.

After losing his job, Arthur attacks and violently kills three Wall Street guys who were harassing a young woman on the subway. The killings start a “Resist” movement against the wealthy establishment of Gotham. Thomas Wayne becomes the voice of the rich, and the poor people start rebelling against it.

Meanwhile, Arthur tries his hand at stand-up at an open mic night at a comedy club. He flops but becomes a viral sensation when his performance was taped and sent to the LIVE WITH MURRAY FRANKLIN (played by Robert De Niro) tv-show. The cops are investigating Arthur for his involvement in the subway killings. He finally reads one of his mother’s letters to Thomas Wayne. In it, Penny claims that Arthur is the illegitimate son of Thomas Wayne!!! There’s much more, but you’ll have to wait till October.

Arthur killing those guys on the subway for bothering a woman. We see him laughing in the trailer which attracts their attention. Also don’t really like the idea of a disease leaving Arthur with the inability to stop laughing.

They’ve actually been fairly accurate on obtaining scripts. Their breakdowns of scripts for stuff like the pilots for Titans and Doom Patrol and movies such as Vice lined up with what was on the screen Even upcoming stuff like Swamp Thing and the live action Cowboy Bebop seem to be accurate.

I finally saw this trailer in front of John Wick. As a Scorsese ripoff, it looks pretty decent. Not a great flick, but maybe a decent Taxi Driver flick. As a Joker film it just felt all kinds of wrong to me. Though I will say, I did really like the shots of him in full on Joker look, walking around. It felt like a the thrift shop take on Ledger's Joker. Which I dug. Same with just seeing a Gotham that feels like a legit 70s city.

Zazie Beetz Explains How Joker Movie Is Different Than Deadpool

The actress appeared at Puerto Rico Comic Con to discuss her upcoming film, revealing new details during an interview with CineXpress.


"I mean, the whole vibe of the set is very different because Deadpool is about the comedy and landing the joke and the physicality of it, whereas Joker is more emotional and is a darker tone," Beetz explained. "It's not the same type of goofing off that happens on the Deadpoolset, in a way. Even though that also was a lot of work too. Joaquin is just a really honest person and a really genuine person. It's really nice as an actor to be working with somebody like that, to really be able to exchange emotionally."

Beetz went on to praise her co-star, explaining that she learned a lot from Phoenix's approach on the set. And based on her comments and what we know about the film, Joker is shaping up to be unlike any other superhero movie yet.
