Joker "The Joker" in development with Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese attached? - Part 2

Had the feeling for a while that this was going to be different from the norm.....and just that little bit special. So pleased to see some of the advance word saying that it very well may just be the case.

A controversial choice considering he is a convicted paedophile who is still in prison.

Yeah, but I blame that more on sports fans being idiots than anything else lol. When you go to any game in America, seriously ANY game in any sport, you hear this dumb song, and at some point the audience will start chanting the GUITAR PART to Seven Nation Army because no one actually knows any of the words, lol.

If ATM is the last week... they haven’t owned the box office or film creativity since TDK/TDKRises.

Why do some people keep talking like DC hasn’t had several successful movies in the past few years?

This looks to be their wildest success in a while but they’ve made at least three hits in the past 3 years.

89% hopefully soon it will be in the 90’s.

4.5/5 and 5/5 reviews added today.

Another poster was saying how this should be the start if a Jaoquin-verse where he does one offs and plays DC characters and you know what? I could actually see Jaoquin playing Lex Luthor...or Superman...or even Batman. The guy has that kind of look and acting talent where I think he could transform into a variety of characters. Lol

I don't see him working as Superman at all. Or really even Batman. And I highly doubt he'd be interested in all that.

lol if somebody suggested he do that he'd be like, **** you

I think it will go to 80 in Metacritic, just like A Clockwork Orange. Considering it already has six 100, it's very probably.

Holy ****, the rating in RT it's insane. And they still haven't added the Daily Mail review (5(5)

‘Joker’ “For Sure” Will Be In Oscar Race, Venice Chief Alberto Barbera – Deadline

Joker was very strong. It was potentially a risk for Warner Bros to bring it to a festival. But the response has been excellent…

I think they made a good choice. The right choice. The film deserves the reception it is getting. It goes beyond the boundaries of the genre. Joaquin Phoenix’s performance is outstanding and Todd Phillips did a great job.

What are its Academy prospects, do you think? Even at this early stage, I expect it to be in the running in at least three-four categories, including Best Picture…

They’re very good. Absolutely, it will be in the running.

There are potential points of contention, however. The messaging on mental health, and the issue of copy-cat killings, for example. Do you foresee any issues there?

I don’t think so. The way it deals with those elements is intelligent. It’s not a simplistic view. Social factors, and other external factors, combine with the character’s state of mind to make it a complex picture. That’s a strength of the film. It’s a strong, unexpected and original film. Even if there are references to The King Of Comedy and Taxi Driver, it’s a very original movie.

I saw Joker and then Nate Parker’s film back-to-back. Combined, it was a dark view of America today…

Joker is a dark movie. It’s a dark vision of the contemporary world. Nate’s movie is provocative. It’s a polemic.

A grounded Lex Luthor story with all other Superman characters (like Lois Lane, Cat Grant, Maggie Sawyer, Dan Turpin, Morgan Edge, Perry White, Jimmy Olsen, Steve Lombard, Dr. Hamilton, G. Gordon Godfrey, Mercy Graves, John Corben and John Henry Irons) can be done in else-worlds format.

That's more than enough characters required for any decent movie.

Haha i know and it would never happen—I was half serious—but was just sayin that i could picture Joaquin playing different DC characters. I could see him playing a handsome, powerful, maniacal Lex Luthor or a timid but wholesome Clark Kent/Superman.

I like the idea somebody posted before. A story about a young Lex Luthor running for presidency in the awakening of metahumans. But just like this one, not taking sides, but showing the worst of each one. Make it controversial. Make twitter go insane, again. Do what Marvel is afraid to do.

The way some of these top critics are behaving when it comes to joker is a huge problem for RT

A film critic should be judging this film on its actual quality and not on their personal belief about the films impact on real world violence. Honesty reading some of the negative reviews from Top critics I really do get the sense that they have a hate for this film that goes far beyond simply not liking a comic book movie. they seem to be using the movie to make a statements about politics and violence.

which is fine if you want to be a political activist but terrible If you are you claiming to be an objective film critic.

Now don't get me wrong I have no issue with critics hating on popular comic book movies
it happens all the time and fans tend to go a overboard when their favorite franchise is criticized.
I still remember critics getting death threats on RT for not believing Dark knight rises was the greatest movie of all time lol

but something about these top critics reviews for joker feels off and very different from anything I have ever seen on RT in the past

the Movie so far is 56 rotten But its average is a high 8.33
indicating that their opinions do not reflect the real quality of the movie at all

I looks like Top critics are in the minority because they are choosing to use their platforms to make a statement instead honestly and objectivity critiquing the film

that does not reflect kindly on them or on RT at all
If your so called top critics can behave like this than I think it calls the accuracy of the whole RT system into question

Which is why I always recommend people to check Average Rating first rather than percentage RT rating.

Same happens in Metacritic. But honestly, doesn't surprise me. American critics tend to be like this. That's why i prefer to read critics from countries like Spain, where this film is getting 5/5 from every critic.

I just found out that the highly divisive Last Jedi has a whopping 95% fresh rating with top critics. Interesting...
