Aurora Shooting Victims Voice Fears Over 'Joker' in Letter to Warner Bros.

I have a huge amount of sympathy for the families of the victims, and I do have concerns myself at presenting Joker as an antihero, positioned in a similar mental space to mass shooters... but a work of fiction should never be censored, censured or stifled because of a completely unrelated real life tragedy.

What's worrying is the standard of journalism these news outlets have, before publishing any story, do they fact-check their claims ?

Given the downward spiral of Internet journalism in general coupled with the rising nature of clickbaiting, it's not that surprising really.

Can't say I don't understand the sentiment, but I kind of feel sorry for the folks who live near there and were excited to see it.

Its a movie and make believe at that. I get there pain being survivors of a horrific event that I hope no one ever goes through again but having said that its just a movie telling a story.

People that are mentally ill will blame anything to justify there actions.

We as society have to ignore them and not submit to there actions plain and simple. Cancelling this movie or delaying etc does nothing but empower someone like the tdk shooter.

So we're just gonna completely take responsibility away from the actual shooter and dump it on a fictional character instead. Okay.

I can't tell these people how to feel, but Holmes didn't look anything like the Joker. Literally not one aspect of his look resembled the character in any form. Oh well.

It is what it is. I don't mean for that to sound callous, but it's between the survivors and the studio. I don't really have anything to say about it since the matter doesn't directly concern me at all. I wasn't involved in that tragedy and I wouldn't presume to tell those victims how to think or feel.

I don't get it. TDKR didn't inspire the Aurora shooter, he picked a movie he knew would popular to get as many targets as possible. Joker, like Taxi Driver, Fight Club, American Psycho, and A Clockwork Orange before it weren't banned because people were afraid they'd incite violence--well A Clockwork Orange was in some countries. Also, the over use of the word anti-hero to describe the Joker is baffling.

No. A Clockwork Orange was banned from the UK because Kubrick and his family were getting death threats by people who blamed him for the violence they assumed was caused by the movie.

If a movie plays on TV or a streaming service hows that compare to the probability of something like the Aurora shooting when compared to a theatrical release?

If inspired by something i suppose one way to perceive this is that person wants attention they dont feel they get in life and theater going is more of a public event hence attention getting or avenue to do something crazy in and of itself. Lots of irresponsible movies are made regularly on a smaller scale. Media buzz surrounding a film currently in the midst of promotion before 1st week in the theatre i think is just as big if not bigger than the content of the movie itself when it comes to encouraging this sort of thing happening moreso.

I'm starting to get hyped for this a bit. I wasn't feeling this movie at all, until just recently, with all of the early praise and these posters and manips.

In a different world imagine how the musical industry would be different if there was a theatre going aspect of listening to surround sounds in an auditorium. A musical gathering sort of like a concert yet an enhanced stage production following the model of theatre going.

How would the musical industry be different? Social responsibility for the types of sounds so as to not encourage cognitive dissonance perhaps would be a norm then.

For what it’s worth, I’m positive no matter how violent this is, it’s nowhere near as violent as the latest Rambo turned out to be (also, it sucked balls).

A Rambo that isn't violent, isn't a Rambo movie.

This is the issue I have, but a lot of those who have seen the full movie mention that’s not how he’s portrayed, and that the film directly answers the question of what happens when people do view him as a hero.
