Essentially, this was WB’s attitude towards this movie:
Then:
“Yay! A Joker movie! Joker is popular! That means loads of money for us!”
Now:
“What do you mean making the Joker a domestic terrorist and the protagonist is controversial? Run away! Run away!”
Absolutely no forward thinking, other than about dollar signs. This film needed a strong and clear marketing message, understanding the potential controversy it could cause. The conversation could have been steered properly. It could have been a valuable tool for proper discussion about the state of America.
Instead it’s rapidly becoming an entirely predictable cluster****, and the film is being targeted - instead of the cultural morass it’s seeking to highlight.
This.
I dont know what they all thought, if they really had just this tunnel vision where they havent for one second thought about the consequences of the movie.
And now we are in a bad position in which also nobody seems to be able to understand the problem.
You have many in the dc fandom being so incredible tone deaf dumb with this stupid memes and comparisons to john wick, punisher or ****ing hell IT to kind of justify the movies idea.
Which is just dumb as heck and hurts the movie and the fandom.
We look like god damn idiots when a few crazy people go out and whine about how it is okay for a movie that has a supernatural being that poses as clown to kill people...but not a grounded and incredible realistic movie about a mentally instable man who snaps and turns towards violence.
This whole movie should have been tackled a lot smarter by the marketing and everybody involved.
Going "why is it okay for john wick to kill 300 people but not for this joker" is just a dumb way to tackle valid concerns.
