Joker "The Joker" in development with Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese attached? - Part 2

Is this a american thing. Ive never experienced it here in the UK and i usually go to the weekend showings. Not even the most hyped (Dark knight, Endgame) got a applause. The audience just casually make there way out of the cinema lool

Same here in Finland. The first Avengers is the only that got some applause (even during the movie, the Hulk-Loki scene)of the films I've seen. But generally the thinking is like, who are the applause directed to? The makers of the movie who are obviously not present or the projector operator, who's these days just pushing a button? Though I do watch some audience reaction videos on Youtube, I would not want to watch a movie in a American movie theater with an American audience. I'd miss out on so much dialogue.

Remember how we said Phoenix hates being public and doing appearances and yet he's doing talkshows and now just appearing at random theaters

Boy is gonna be CAMPAIGN like a mother****a for dat Oscar

I remember seeing a movie where people did actually clap at the end, but for the life of me I cannot recall the movie itself.

Still need to process what I just watched, but one thing is for sure, Phoenix delivered something special with this performance.

Having seen the film, I can see why people would walk out of it not having enjoyed it.

But no one can say credibly this film is not almost impeccably made. That’s what’s bothering me. There’s an inherent bias in about 50% of the negative reviews because their writers are not mature enough to deal with what the film presents.

I did not enjoy watching the film at all. I may see it again but will watch it sparingly. I nevertheless give it a 4-5/5. It was powerful filmmaking that has made me feel how I feel - disgusted, upset and frankly a little more dubious about people in the world.

I can acknowledge this. It is very well made and acted.

I saw Gemini Man last night and people clapped. I didn't understand why.

People actually clapped after my showing tonight. I was surprised.

Really enjoyed it (although that's probably not the right word to describe it as it's no laughing matter.)

The slow burn as he evolves to his final form was done really with a tremendous final act that was filled with madness.

Update on RT Audience scores ...

I don't disagree about Jordan. But you're being dismissive of a very real issue as a means to make your point.

Give us one example of a black actor or actress being robbed at the Oscar's in the last 30 years. Just one.

US critics just seem like a bunch of overly sensitive fuddy duddys after this. How can they be taken seriously when 90% of them recognise it's a well crafted film, but are marking it down due to their own bias and sensibilities?

I mean look at how high the audience score is. Some of these critics already had a bias before they even saw it.

I really loved it! I'll repeat everything that's been said already. Amazing, amazing performance from Joaquin, gorgeous cinematography and a haunting score. The script may be the weakest part with some possible plot holes but it's still quite strong.

The third act was as suspenseful as I'd hoped it be. Some well executed dark humor - one scene had me in tears laughing.

I know they're saying this is a one off but damn do I really want to see this Joker face-off against Batman.

Legit not trying to prolong this discussion or involving myself but in fairness, two immediately came to mind:

Samuel L Jackson for Pulp Fiction.

Denzel for Malcolm X

I also recall some folks thought Quvenzhané Wallis from Beasts of the Southern Wild was robbed. Personally though, while I like the film and her performance not sure I fully agree.

Ok if I were a RT critic, I’d be stuck...

It’s honestly a fantastic piece of powerful, impactful, revolutionary, timely artwork. Would I recommend it to anyone? I don’t know. I hated it and loved it at the same time...

I totally understand how you feel. It's a very tough movie that makes you feel very ambivalent about it.

But sometimes I think it's OK for movies to be this way. I don't think you have to put everything in a box and give it a label.

Like I would recommend everyone to see this film at least once and just decide for themselves. Or I would recommend it to people who enjoy darkly cynical and brutal films. I mean this is a very rough, bleak movie.

I'm in Finland and yesterday people did give an applause when it was over. It happens very inconsistently here, last time I think there was an applause after a movie I was seeing it was Interstellar.

Harry Knowles said it was a great movie but not something he feels is "joker".
