Joker "The Joker" in development with Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese attached? - Part 2

A well deserved win for both recipients. Definitely the two best things about the movie rightfully awarded.

I kind of hope Phoenix puts his foot down now and refuses to do a sequel.

I don’t get why so many are against a sequel. So many were against the movie in the first place, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.

If Philips and Phoenix come up with a story that warrants a sequel, no one should be against a sequel. Yes, the movie stands well on its own, but it doesn’t lose anything if they do a sequel. Especially if it’s good.

I think Joaquin and Philips have another great Joker movie in them. We only got true Joker for a few minutes.

I think it’ll be hard to avoid Batman in a sequel. Even just depicting him as a wraith-like phantom (that might only exist in his head) would be enough for me.

I mean we all pretty much saw this win coming, but it was still awesome to see IMO, especially after how much crap this movie had to deal with last year with the stupid, media fear mongering and those nut cases on Twitter who just wanted to see this movie fail on every level. Those two wins for original score and leading actor are almost just as satisfying as Parasite's win for BP. Congrats to Joaquin Phoenix and Hildur.

Phoenix would never do a sequel if he didn’t want to. So if it happens, we should be supportive. I have confidence in this team. Would be so nice to see Phoenix in Joker for the entire duration of a movie.

Ironic that the more so-called "woke" people were against Joker and their thoughts on what it meant, when it turned out the two people with the most "woke" speeches at the Oscars were from Joker.

Oh I think it's hilarious now that there was all this rallying to JOKER from the Alt-Right... And now I'm seeing backlash against Phoenix from the Right cuz he used his win to make an obviously Left of center (Pretty WAY Left, since the Democratic Party isn't looking to ban cows anytime soon...) pitch to the world.

what does what the actor say have to do with I think some rallying to the movie maybe based on what they'd call sjw being against it?

But for real... If I'm even understanding your post, so forgive me...

When "some actor" is in fact the STAR of the film so... Probably what he says has some weight and bearing on most any discussion of the reception of the film, especially when political analysis was baked into this movie right from the start whether one liked that or not, denying it is denying reality.

And since that IS the reality we are working with, yes, I find it exquisitely humorous that the Alt-right and thin skinned fanboys of every stripe poltically who need to defend Fanboy stuff regardless of any context, rallied to this film sight unseen at the bareest mention of it's content. (And in my view completely missed the bigger statements about Arthur/Joker as a character who, again, like it or not, reflects a segment of the populace at large generally and the Alt-Right and Fanboy populace in particular. Persons that while having a lot of legitimate reasons for any manner of social protest, tend to do so mostly because their egos were bruised, or cross lines far too easily from aggrievement that may or may not have a basis in facts or evidence, to all out bat guano stupidity dressed up as righteous indignation.)

If anything THIS thread has from it's inception from time to time turned into the sort of hothouse of grievences and tin foil hattery I will alwys associate with runaway extremism... I'm sorry that right now the runaway extremism is most assuredly ascendent on the Alt-Right, but that is again the truth... But of course this wouldn't be the Internet without indignation, so, Phoenix wins, the politically minded "Anti-SJW" types want to (pathetically) have some kind of victory lap thinking Phoenix and Joker are there flying the Alt-Right flag or what ever nonsense they were boiling around in the stew of resentments and bad information that they call a mind... And it turns out Phoenix uses his platform to make headlines for a POV and cause the majority of those Alt-Right supporters from before find anathema, or at least they get reminded that A) Phoenix is in fact a long standing member of the Hollywood elite and not really some "outsider" they could project themselves onto. Turns out JOKER is being used by it's star not to turn the light on "the forgotten man" (There's too many of us that KNOW what that really means... We're not all folk that only started paying attention to politics in America once a reality TV star was made POTUS...) but for some boilerplate Hollywood Lefty cause. B) It can remind them that NO ONE who spends LESS time on the Internet than the typical Alt-Righter under the age of 25 actually knew about or cared for the support Joker got online. Or that there even was some kind of "controversy". There really was no controversy or actual outrage, because, and this might ****ing surprise some but... People writing ariticles, and then some commenting on it on some other online platform, isn't the equivalent of "outrage" nor indicative of some broad sweeping sentiment one way OR the other. The one giant tool created to exchange information and ideas is used just for that... Sorry. Some, rightly so in my mind, were asking legitimate questions about how a creative piece made now reflects it's times. People asked, again, without malice, what it says when, I don't know if you've noticed this, the world is currently so politically volitile, and something with both pretenses to deeper meaning and thought, which this film surely is trying to do, while marrying that to an IP that in our super hero saturated world, gives it a lot more visibility. Finally, C) Acting as though a tragic event like the killings in Colorado wouldn't reasonably be referenced or that some people were just pulling reasons out of their ass to have some issues with the release of the film during a politically polarized moment... I can't pretend to give those opinions much respect. It was gonna be brought up, rightly or wrongly, one's opinion wasn't gonna change that.

So yes... Still laughing at the many folk online that are now upset with Phoenix from the Right side of the spectrum who were, I don't know, wearing this film like a badge of honor or something, which was silly in and of itself.

And since it's ****ing inevitable... I don't have to make a post about the film itself. I did an entire podcast on it and instead of asking me what I thought of the film as opposed to the criticism OF the criticism...

Podcast Episodes — TO BE CONTINUED... (A Fanboy Podcast)

Long story short... I gushed over the film and Phoenix's performance. So... No, what I wrote wasn't done because I'm a "Hater".

I am actually looking forward to Joker vs Batman in this Elseworld more so than The Batman, right now anyway, sine Joaquin will probably not end up in Reeves world

That's a long post. I'm not going to reply to it all.

I don't think What the actor thinks or says Has a bearing on the movie really. I don't think it's really that political. I think it leans more in society based.

I don't see the humor. The actor isn't the movie. The movie I think paints issues with a society that disregards others and I don't think all the anti sjw leaning folk not get it or think Arthur's justified in his actions. I think this post, the little I read of it, sounds like you think it got one over them or that they don't get it. I don't think that's necessarily the case or that the actor's perception necessarily changes what they think of the movie or why they watched it.

Do we have any actual confirmation that the "alt right" even gave a **** about this movie? I know a lot of the media hyperbole surrounding the release was about how this movie was some "incel Alt right war cry" which turned out to be so laughably false the media scrambled for weeks afterwards trying to find something else to whine a out (hence the Gary Glitter nonsense)

Haha, that is awesome. :D
