The Dark Knight Rises The Joker sized elephant in the room

It isn't about the movie, really. Nolan and co. made the choice not to mention the Joker because they feel that is the appropriate way to honor Heath Ledger's memory. It doesn't really matter if the lack of a Joker mention affects the film positively or negatively. That's not why they made the decision.

IMO a reference to The Joker wouldn't have hurt, but if Nolan didn't want to go ahead with it that's his call. At the end of the day:

With TDK we have an entire movie featuring The Joker.
With TDKR we have an entire movie featuring Bane.

i think most ppl are upset because they know dent gets a mention and ras will have his past fleshed out n the rumors of a scarecrow cameo in the courtroom...i guess ppl wanted a little hint of the beloved clown n what hes been up to

The first two are in to further the plot, scarecrow is there probably because it'd be nice to have him in all 3 and to give cillian some work!

i think at this point dent furthers the plot alot more....this movie imo could due without ras n his backstory.... i just pray bane doesnt end up being banes father figure or some crap like that

Has this been confirmed?

Chris Nolan said:
We're not addressing the Joker. That is something I felt very strongly about in terms of my relationship with Heath and the experience I went through with him on The Dark Knight. I didn't want to in any way try and account for a real-life tragedy. That seemed inappropriate to me.

If you mean, Ra's, then yes I agree with you.

Thanks.

He still seems very affected by Heath's death. I'm a little surprised but at least we'll be able to draw are own conclusions about the fate of Joker.

Not only that, not mentioning the Joker at all doesn't make sense. He was this bigger than life terrorist in TDK who was the main cause to Bruce losing the love of his life and the cause to Dent's insanity. It just doesn't make sense to not mention the Joker, who cause so much chaos in Gotham.

I get it, Heath is dead and he was a great Joker, but for crying out loud, move on. There is no disrespect in mentioning the Joker or even having a new guy take that mantle to make this trilogy go full circle.

And that's why I think that Nolan's hype of "Full Circle" is a bunch of BS. You can't have the trilogy go full circle if no mention is made about the Joker, who tore Bruce's life apart, mentally, emotionally, and physically. DOESN'T MAKE SENSE.

If the Joker is mentioned, then technically we're still lingering over him, if only for a little while. That would mean that we're not moving on. So without a Joker reference, we are moving on.

I think nyou can. The way I see it, Full circle means getting back to the Beginning from the End, making a Complete Circle. We just came from the middle (TDK).

Bingo.

Ra's al Ghul wasn't mentioned in TDK even though he had just destroyed a whole section of Gotham a few months previously. I really don't see the need to mention the Joker in connection with Dent.

Ra's destroyed half of Gotham. The Joker did more. He destroyed our main hero's life. Bruce's life revolved around Rachel, his child hood lover. Then he destroyed Dent's life as well. Dent was engaged to Rachel. He also destroyed Dent's face. I could go on. There's a big difference between Ra's and Joker.

Ra's put Bruce on his path to becoming a vigilante. If what Joker said about order in Gotham, than indirectly we have Ra's to thank for that. Ergo he is on par with Joker in terms of importance.

Well, so what? Dent went crazy and murdered some people, but there's no need to explain who pushed him to it. Nor is there a need to explain the circumstances leading up to Rachel's death.

Nolan knew Heath. I think you (and others with the same mentality) have a bloody cheek telling anyone who knew him how to feel about his death.

Look, I get why people want a mention of the Joker, but there's an entitlement on show in some of these posts that I find highly distasteful.

I will be highly disapointed if they don't mention Joker at least at the start of the film. He caused a lot of chaos in Gotham and was the cause for Harvey's downfall ( though only Bruce/ Batman, and Gordon know that, or maybe Bruce told Alfred don't know about that one yet). I know Heath's death hit Nolan hard but come on man, Joker is Bat's greatest villian!

At this point the constant wanting of a Joker mention in the TDKR is becoming more about fan service than it actually serving a purpose.

It's serves no purpose to the story mentioning Joker. Mentioning Harvey Dent yes because it was because of Dents direct actions that lead up to things happening in TDKR.
