The Kennedy Thread

This assumes, falsely that nothing was done prior to Nov.23rd 1963. LBJ took up where JFK was going.

No doubt about it that LBJ escalated the war far more than JFK, but the facts are still the facts that JFK overall took the first steps in the Vietnam War. And personally I think he would have gone through with it like LBJ did so he could keep up his being tough with the commies image.

One of these guys is the most overrated president ever. The other could've probably been a pretty decent one.

JFK is certainly overrated though. Truman FTW!

Reagan is overrated in a lot of aspects, but at least he had two full terms and it's certainly understandable why Republicans adore him so much.

I think the best criticism you can offer against Kennedy hasn't been mentioned.

Iraq. His handling of that was quite awful and was exactly the kind of foreign policy Obama was talking about when he said we helped put ourselves in the current mess.

He was a great speaker, he had great intentions but honestly most people remember him so fondly because he was good looking younger guy who was gunned down.

Yeah, can you imagine if Obama was ****ing around with a star like Marilyn Monroe? As much as people criticize the media's treatment of Obama, the media's treatment of JFK was by far the most pathetic ever. JFK's affairs were exactly the kind of thing that end people's political careers nowadays (Spitzer, Edwards...cough cough), and yet the media completely protected him.

and that's not even bringing up the fun mafia connections and nifty voter fraud. I believe that him dying was the only thing that's protected him from being revealed for what he really is. Everyone loves a martyr, even if it's more the concept than the man.

I guess that's a good point. His father was one of the most corrupt men in politics.

I think RFK was a more decent man than his older brother while Ted was pretty similar to JFK as far as being a scumbag is concerned.

totally agree, Robert was the mutant good man in a family of *******s, he actually went after the people that used voter fraud to get his brother elected, that takes balls.

I really don't agree with that even closely. Fear for the destruction of your country and fear that you will die is not even remotely close to what we did to black people. In fact we brought there here on our own free will as slaves.

It's not really prejudice to assume that Americans will want America to win and Japanese will want Japan to win.

the Japanese internment was carried out out of a fear that they would engage in acts of terrorism to sabotage us. We were never really at war with black people.

You realize more than half of the Japanese American citizens sent to internment camps in the US were children, right?

It was exactly like the racial profiling that went on after 9/11 to the worst degree.

If it weren't for Watergate, Nixon would have gone down as one of America's greatest Presidents

Yeah, too bad history says he was a paranoid crook. And that is how he will ALWAYS be remembered.

It isn't revisionist, it's the damn truth. JFK deserves none of the praise he gets other than the fact that he was charismatic and good looking.

Yeah, let me mention that to NASA, the Peace Corps, and all the non-radioactive people here in Florida.

History is written by the winners. And considering a dead Catholic Democrat with 3 years in office has better historical standing than a Republican who visited Commie China, "ended" the Vietnam War, and made in office wire tapping hip speaks volumes.

hehe, yeah he started that whole standoff by listening to the men he had trained for his mission die screaming for help he promised and then went back on, and he actually gets credit for not letting his own ****ups lead to complete nuclear war. Hey bush didn't let his stupidity lead to nuclear war either.

It's funny that the winner here didn't even win the election. Cheat kids, cheat good and hard just make sure you've got looks a big hair and history will praise your name, just don't be an ugly quaker that actually accomplishes things beyond fixing your own ****ups or you'll be regarded as a *****e.

I see JFK as a descent president.

He didnt trully get much done from what I see.
As with all, he made blunders (bay of pigs) and had some nice accomplishments (missile crisis)

I do think he started some of what LBJ ended up pushing thru.

Nixon's presidency, is completely overshadowed by the end of his presidency.
He was brilliant and did alot, but boy, his paranoia and temper got the best of him.

Just barely, the guy kept pushing for War with Iran, and let Pakistan turn into a mess. Guess that happens when everyone is watching you because your leadership and decision making skills suck.

Are you talking about Kennedy, or Bush?

I change the names of a few of these countries and we're talking about kennedy. Kennedy escalated the cold war faster and with more stupidity than any other us president and got us closer to an all out nuclear war than history has ever known. But you give him credit for not going all the way?

Are you talking about Kennedy, or Bush?

Well Bush probably cheated, but Kennedy definately did and did it with not just politicians but using the mafia as well, that's pretty much an accepted truth to most historians and journalists at this point. Illinois and Texas would have gone to nixon and kennedy would never have been president. The bay of pigs would never have happened, and the cuban missle crisis wouldn't have happened either. The lack of those two events wouldn't have empowered the communists to such an extent and with a president that valued diplomacy and establishing relations with "enemies" at the time, I'd doubt vietnam would have happened or at least not happened to the extent it did. Yeah go kennedy, boo nixon. Oh, side note for current times, without kennedy backing the coup in iraq (god that guy loved backing coups) we would have a very different situation in Iraq today where we wouldn't be nearly as involved.

This is rather morbid, but I can't think of a more appropriate place to discuss it.

Have any of you seen the Watchmen film? If so, you'll likely recall the depiction of President Kennedy's assassination. My question is: was that fact or fiction? I always believed that Kennedy was just shot in the chest or something.

Where are my historians and know-it-alls? :oldrazz:

Well there are numerous theories surrounding JFK's assassination, including a second shooter on the grassy knoll, which the Comedian was in "Watchmen."

Yes his head was blown off. The Zapruder film shows part of his skull flying off and his wife trying to get the piece.

And you can see photos from JFK's autopsy, brain matter is most certainly exposed.

Oh he's absolutely right, feel free to check out the video/autopsy pics

In regards to the "Magic Bullet", isn't there an explaination about how Kennedy's motorcade was build a bit differently from a stock one so that he sat a little lower and a little more towards the door, and when checked with where it hit the front passenger, lined up perfectly rather than the "magic path" it took?
