Horror 'The Last of Us' HBO Series

Just remembered it's the same Hank Williams song from the first teaser of the game.

Also the song that’s playing when they’re driving through that one city and get ambushed.

The fact that they’re using some of the actual songs used in the game tells me these writers and directors really did their homework for this series, because that song is a pretty deep cut.

Looks great. Bonus points for adding Lynskey (and somehow keeping it a secret until now). I truly hope this show breaks the video game curse. I know the Sonic films have been well received and Halo was decent (even if it is very divisive) but I’m waiting for that one game adaptation to just be (almost) universally beloved. Maybe this will be it.

Looks awesome!

This looks pretty incredible and unlike that recent Netflix Resident Evil show will actually do the games justice even if it isn't 100% faithful to the source material. I just don't understand why we can't get this level of quality with more videogame adaptations, but maybe this could be the first real game changer when it comes to these studios actually taking this stuff seriously and giving the fans what they want or at least leave them feeling satisfied.

I know it's not good to set your expectations too high, but its honestly hard not to when you have this much talent onscreen and behind it and man Pedro Pascal is going to have a heck of year between this and Mando Season 3 and I couldn't be happier for him because of how insanely talented he is.

This looks like it could legitimately be the first great video game adaptation.
Someone has forgotten the Oscar worthy Sonic and Sonic 2 and the superior Realistic Teeth Cut. :o

Counting down the days. This looks great. :D

There's also another reason why this is released as a HBO Original and not a HBO Max release. They clearly put all their best resources into this show which you don't really see with other video game adapations.

Tom Holland as Joel would have been amazing to see with Mark Wahlberg as Tommy. :o

The main reason I'm hyped for this Craig Mazin who did the amazing Chernobyl mini-series, so taking that into account and the fact that this looks to be in the same level of quality judging by the trailer is a good thing.

It's kind of hilarious that Mazin went from Hangover movies to Chernobyl.

It is kind of interesting how both he and Todd Phillips went from making comedies to exploring viscerally haunting drama.

Could be a mistake, but the trailer page on HBO Max was updated to say the series premieres January 15.

Could be a mistake but I’d be glad if that’s the actual release date because I know people were expecting like an March or April date for the series so I’ll be pleasantly surprised if January 15 is the premiere date.

Is it going to be a weekly release or all released at once Netflix style?

Just started the 2nd game and absolutely loving it.

I'm both bummed and pleased this is just a miniseries. I don't really have the desire to see Part 2 adapted.

If it's successful enough I could see them soldiering on with an adaptation of Part 2. It's also HBO, they've renewed shows that weren't originally intended to have multiple seasons like Big Little Lies and The White Lotus.

That being said...(Part II Spoilers)

I'm in no rush to see Pedro Pascal get his head bashed in AGAIN.

They plan on doing Part II. Season 1 character casting descriptions mentioned being contracted for a multi-season deal.

Hopefully it won't adapt any of Part II. Haven't managed to get a PS5 yet to play it.

I think that might work better in live action for general viewers than it did for many game players.

(like
GoT season 1
for eg)
