The Last of Us

I beat it for the first time last night(never did get around to finishing the game on the PS3) and I enjoyed the hell out of it.

I wasn't quite as taken with the game as some as I thought the story was pretty generic, however it was told extremely well(which, duh, its Naughty Dog)

I also got around to playing a little of the MP and im really digging that. Wasn't expecting to like it that much.

That 60fps!!!:wow: It's so smooth!

I locked it at 30fps just to see the difference and the jitter and blur is ridiculous. Not sure how I put up with 30fps all this time.

So... Does it take anyone else forever to find a match in the MP? Holy poo.

I didn't have any issues, but the other night I was in a party with two other dudes and they gave up because it was taking so long

I got in a little while after that post. I do enjoy the MP.. The run and gunners that seperate from their group are easy targets, lol.

Its frustrating when those dudes are on your team haha. Or the ppl who refuse to interrogate downed enemies. Annoying.

I really enjoyed the opening.

But I found the [blackout] Tess [/blackout] part incredibly boring and was worried I was in for a huge disappointment but thankfully everything since then has been gold and have been loving the game.

I agree that the stuff with Tess where youre trying to find Robert and get the guns back is boring, but once you get beyond the wall things improve considerably. The part in the toppled skyscraper and the bit in the cracked streets is ridiculously tense.

I rented this on PS3 when it first came out last year, and couldn't get into it. I don't think I was giving it a fair shake or the attention it required. I remember I was trying to run and gun and rush through the stealth parts and obviously that tactic wasn't working so I got frustrated. Glad I gave the game another chance on PS4 cause this time I'm playing a lot better and it's just clicking with me much more. I'm loving this game.

That's the most easy going part if the game.. I think it was intentional, lol.

Funny, I was disappointed with the opening levels as well, but for entirely different reasons: I actually wanted to see more of their lives and work within the quarantine zone. The only "complaint" (using the world loosely) I have with the game is that I felt the jump from [BLACKOUT]Sarah's death[/BLACKOUT] to Joel being a ruthless smuggler/murderer was a little too jarring. Had they expanded upon that more, I think Joel's growth as a character would have been stronger - we ended up just getting hints and suggestions that he was in a dark place/has done some terrible things, which is fine as a story telling device, but there comes a point where you need to SHOW US and not just TELL US.

Am I the only one that doesn't view Joel as a murderer...? I mean.. Most cases it's him it them.

Self defense is not murder. You cant ever just walk past another enemy in the game and not have them whip out their guns or weapons to try and kill you. If the A.I. was built so that they would only attack if you were acting hostile, that would be a different story but everyone was aggressive and out to kill. What should Joel do? Just let he and Ellie be killed? Its self preservation and did what he did to protect himself. The only "murder" committed in the game by him would be at the end but I wont spoil that. That was unnecessary and could have been avoided.

that wasn't important to the story of TLOU. Would have made a great DLC package, but they went in a different route for that. Within the narrative that was presented, I dont feel they needed to show us the adventures of Joel, Tommy and Tess. It would have been oddly placed and paced. Telling us was fine. Gamers dont need their hands held every step of the way. There was enough information given to infer what kind of life they had led prior to the story picking back up after the prologue

Except for the bit where he admits to killing innocent people.

Admittedly I havent played the main game since last year, but where do we kill innocent people in the game? I guess they might technically be innocent before there is a confrontation but that goes back to my point in that any other outcome results in your death, so those Hunters/Fireflies arent exactly innocent

He doesn't actually do it in the game, but it indicates quite clearly that he murdered innocent people in the past.

Ellie asks him outright if he killed innocent people and then the subtext of his whole fight with Tommy is that Joel made them do some bad stuff.

Even Tess just says blatantly "We're sh***y people, Joel. This could be our last chance to do something good."

When Joel and Ellie are ambushed, he also says something about having been on both ends of an ambush like that.
