I like Neal McDonough and it makes me sad that he is involved in this....the budget for this was 60 million....I wonder if they will break even
geezus so thats the budget? that explains a lot of things about this film. although i dont think its a good enough excuse for lousy direction and substandard acting. i mean heck if indy movies with a budget less than this produce better films.

will this be better or worse than DOA??
i kinda liked DOA :O. and i took it for what it was: eyecandy popcorn fun :D

Maybe Tekken will be decent. They at least hired enough people that can actually fight.

I have no issue with DOA.....it's a movie that knew it's place....and Holly Valance....I need to be alone..

now if i had to choose a real Chinese girl to play Chun-Li, i'd still have reservations on Zhang Ziyi, mostly because she looks like a twig and doesnt strike me as one who can lay it down with the best of them. all her work in Crouching Tiger doesnt have me convinced that she can play a street fighter-- in that regard she's in the same boat Kristin is.
The reason I don't think Ziyi would make a good Chun-Li is that she's never successfully transferred into English speaking roles from what I've seen in Rush Hour 2. Maybe she did in Geisha but I didn't see that. Personally, I thought she was a convincing fighter in CTHD. Devon Aoki would be fine, though.

I just saw those clips and most importantly the clip with Vega.

Anyone who is still defending this and saying we need to wait to see it, has got to stop living. It's a P.O.S plain and simple, no two ways about it. Unless this is all some sort of meta viral marketing campaign and what they really show on screen is a super secret completley other film with a whole differnt writer/director/cast etc, then sorry...safe to say we are getting the WORST Street Fighter adaptaion ever (and that includes the Fox Animated Series.

Say what you will about the Van Damme version but at least they had somethings right.

You speak truth!

Just to add Chun Li has THIGH and LEG! Not size zero leg, and also why are they focusing on her Kikouken? The majority of her moves were based on her kicking ability, true facts.

One other thing Gen? Teaching her the Kikouken?? This film fails, and that's it for me, I'm going to continue playing SF4 and get top rankings now, that where you'll find the true fans of the game, playing it, not watching some film I could have made with a mobile phone.

Peace

I hate this film just as much as everyone else, but I always found this a ridiculous complaint. You won't find many asian girls with thick thighs, much less asian actresses who speak great English.

I finally saw a commercial for the movie....mmmmm. I'm gonna reserve judgement untill i see it

I feel truly sorry for everyone involved in this flick. If that ain't a carreer killer, I don't know what is.

Other than Vega, I'm guessing that if their names weren't mentioned, none of us would even know who everyone was just by looking at them.

It's so that they can get work because if anyone knew them....no one would hire them after htis

girls in DOA had bigger tights. no one wants bodybuilder legs. but come on. at least some muscles. at the end of the day its a fighting movie.

I agree.

Maybe the producers thought so too, given that the new poster has the characters names spelt out for us all to see.

Some tidbits from an interview with Kristin:

Were you nervous taking on this beloved character? Although, surely you've dealt with fan expectations before?

I think the reason I decided to take this character was because of the Spiritual arc of the script, even though in the movie you see her street fighting, for me that was what was appealing, and I thought it was a way to encourage people, in our own little way, to do that in their own lives.

So, when taking on the character, I didn't think of it as "Millions, millions and millions of people love her," but I did go, "Do I want to do another one of these characters?" Because I've done so many, and I know what it's like. I know that people are going to hate me as the choice, and I know that people are going to love me as the choice and I know that it's going to be split. And I don't know how game fans are, but I know how comic-book fans are. So I know how it's so brutal and so amazing at the same time. And I get that, so at least I'm versed in it.

Whenever we write about you and Chun-Li, people always bring up the difference in body types between you and the video game character. Although, I don't really know anyone who's that size. And she is a video game character, after all. Is that hard for you hearing [criticisms about your body type] when you're making a realistic translation of the game?

I actually can't think of any Asian women that fit that body figure - maybe some halfies - but nope, not even close. And it's funny, because my proportions are... Well, I'm small, which is totally fine with me. I think it's more important to have a believable character than somebody who fits what the physical is. It's sort of like going outside in, instead of inside out. And I think inside out is more important.

Did you at any point consider putting on the costume and having some fun, I mean no one is in the Street Fighter-wear on set. But just for kicks?

We were actually reading what was online and everyone was saying, "This isn't realistic, it's not like the game." So we thought, we should do something that's just like the game, that would be hilarious. So what we actually did, and I don't know where this footage is. We bought gloves for Michael [Duncan, who plays Balrog], who is the loveliest man. We thought it would be really funny if Chun-Li and Balrog had a fight on the street in the style of Street Fighter, where you fight on a straight line. And we did it! We filmed the whole thing. I wore an Asian mandarin collar, I put my hair in the buns, we went out to the pool and we shot it with the temple in the backdrop by the hotel. And he's in short shorts and the whole kit and caboodle. I do the side kick and I say "spinning bird kick" and we did the whole thing. It's somewhere, I don't know where it is. What we wanted to do is put in all of the power bars and all of the video FX, it was all planned.

I'm not gonna say this movie is good or bad until after I see it, but I would like to say some things

- Capcom was part of the decision making on this film. They chose Chun Li to be the lead character, they chose who would be playing Chun Li and all the other actors, they approved everything that has to do with this film.

- Chun Li's mother has never been spoken of in any official text of Street Fighter. Her mother in this movie is white. Since Capcom approved this, Chun Li is, for now, a half Chinese/half white character.

- The characters are not wearing their game clothes because this movie takes place before the games. If you think by simply putting Bison in a red military costume it would make this movie awesome, then I don't know what to tell you. Costumes do not make a good movie. Look at Van Damme's movie.

- Kristin Kreuk is half Chinese and a purple belt martial artist

- This film, unlike the Van Damme movie, follows the official storylines of Street Fighter. Bison kills Chun Li's father. Gen is an ex criminal and trains Chun Li. Nash and Chun Li meet up to take down Bison. Bison sheds his good side who is Rose. Balrog is an ex boxer and now thug for Bison. Vega is a sadistic assassin. Bison is the head of Shadaloo. Bison has a dark power which we know as psycho power.

- Bison's body in this movie is not the body Bison is seen in in the games. Bison can switch bodies.

- Chun Li doesn't have huge legs in this movie because she's not a cartoon character.

- This movie is NOT going for "realistic" unless you consider fireballs and psycho power to be "realistic"

the fights don't even look that good at all, and for 60 million it looks a lot worse than 60 million spent...

The only thing I can see great from those clips is a genuinetly good effort by Kreuk, she's the only one who brings some decency to the crappy ass scenes from the clips above

btw, i don't like her character on smallville but she definitely is a competent actress... sucks that she chose this film though

I don't even mind the majority of these changes. Just a few different choices and this could've been a decent movie.

But most actors are cringeworthy, the dialogue is just horrid and it's got some of the worst use of wires that I've ever seen in a martial arts movie.
